Ending an 84-Game Streak

Lisa Marshall ’14 had the hot glove last weekend, making a total of 93 saves in two games against No. 1 Plattsburgh. Her 37 saves in game one preserved a 2-0 shutout win, marking the first time since February 9, 2011 that the Cardinals of Plattsburgh had been held scoreless.

Marshall Breaks Single-Game Record

With 56 saves in Elmira’s 2-1 overtime loss, Lisa Marshall ’14 is now Elmira’s single-game record holder for most saves. Former EC great Edith Racine ’05 was the previous record holder with 51 saves on February 24, 2002 in a 4-3 double overtime win against Plattsburgh State.

Not in 12 Years

In game two of Elmira’s double-header with Plattsburgh State, the Soaring Eagles surrendered 58 shots on goal, the most ever allowed in EC history. Plattsburgh’s 58 shots are the most any team has put on goal against Elmira since February 24, 2002 when the Cardinals of Plattsburgh took 54 shots on goal.

Elmira allowed 37 shots on goal against Plattsburgh State in game one of their double-header. The 37 shots are the most Elmira has allowed and still skated away with a victory since last year’s NCAA Semifinal when Gustavus Adolphus launched 41 shots on net in EC’s 4-3 OT victory.

Marshall’s National Rankings

Lisa Marshall ’14 has been phenomenal in net this season as she ranks in the top 10 in the country in all four major statistical categories. She is third in save percentage (.951), fourth in goals allowed average (1.24), tied for fourth in shutouts (4), and eighth in win percentage (.781).

One of Two in NCAA DIII

The Elmira women have been solid all season on both sides of the puck. Elmira is one of two teams to be ranked in the top five in the nation in both scoring offense and scoring defense. The other team in the top five in both categories is No. 1 Plattsburgh State.

Road Warriors

EC will play the final road games of the regular season this weekend against Cortland State. Following Saturday’s game, Elmira will have played in 14 true away games and 16 total away from home. Once the season is complete, Elmira will play in a total of nine home games, which if EC does not host a post-season game, will be the least amount of home contests in program history.

All-Time vs. Cortland State

Elmira owns a decisive advantage in the all-time series against the Red Dragons of Cortland State, winning all 26 meetings between the two institutions. Cortland is one of five institutions that Elmira has faced at least 10 times and has not suffered a defeat.

Last Time Out

Last year, Cortland and Elmira met twice early in the season. The Soaring Eagles picked up a pair of shutout wins against the Red Dragons, outscoring Cortland 9-0 in the two games.

Title Defense

This is the third time in just 12 years of EC women’s ice hockey that the Purple and Gold will begin a season as the defending national champions. Despite losing some key pieces from last year’s team, the 2013-14 edition of EC women’s ice hockey has returned six of its top 10 scorers and is ready to bring another title back home. The Soaring Eagles successfully defended their first national championship, winning back-to-back titles in 2001-02 and 2002-03. EC became the first program to win NCAA Championships in each of their first two years of existence.
