Brooke Wilgosh ’15 had a tremendous weekend on the ice against SUNY Potsdam, recording five points on two goals and three assists. The defender’s five-point outburst coupled with the shutout posted on Saturday against the Bears led the ECAC West to name Wilgosh the ECAC West Player of the Week for the week ended November 17, 2013.

Going for Five Straight

The Soaring Eagles have rebounded nicely since their 0-1-1 start as the women have put together four straight wins, all against ECAC West opponents, to enter this weekend’s matchup with a 4-1-1 record and a perfect 4-0-0 mark in ECAC West play. The Purple and Gold had three separate streaks of five-plus wins last season, the longest being an eight-game stretch in which they outscored opponents 40-3.

Eighth in the Nation

Brooke Wilgosh ’15 had a very productive weekend for the Purple and Gold, tallying five points on two goals and three assists. The thirdyear talent leads all EC defenders with six points and ranks eighth in all of NCAA Division III women’s ice hockey in points per game for defensemen.

Wilgosh is Number Six

Wilgosh also finds her name on the shortlist of all NCAA Division III skaters in power play goals scored so far this season. The defender has tallied three man-up scores through six games in 2013-14, placing her in a two-way tie for sixth place in the nation. Wilgosh trails the top spot by two scores.

Jackson in November

Head Coach Dean Jackson ’03 continued his success in the month of November after last weekend’s sweep of SUNY Potsdam. With those two wins, Jackson’s record in the month of November is now 11-2-1. His women posted a 7-1-0 mark in 2012-13 and are 4-1-1 this season.

Coach Jackson vs. Williams

In his first year at the helm of the Purple and Gold, Coach Jackson guided his team to EC’s eighth straight victory over Williams College as his Soaring Eagles shutout the Ephs 6-0.

All-Time vs. Williams

EC holds a decisive edge in the series with Williams, carrying a 9-0-1 record into today’s matchup. The Soaring Eagles and Ephs played to a 1-1 tie on December 6, 2002, but the Purple and Gold have come out on top each of the last eight contests between the two colleges.

Williams this Season

Williams College enters this weekend of play with a 1-1 record after splitting a pair of games with Wesleyan University on November 15th and 16th. The Ephs lost their season opener 4-3 then came back the following day to earn a 6-2 victory over the Cardinals. Wesleyan held a 2-0 lead early in the third period, but Williams erupted for six straight goals, four of which came on the power play, to secure the 6-2 win. Caitlin Conlon ’15 had a game-high three points and was one of six different players to tally goals for the Ephs.

Familiar Face in Net

Returning for her third season as the primary goaltender for Williams is Chloe Billadeau ’15. The Chaska, MN native has started both games so far, making 36 saves with a .878 save percentage while compiling a 2.51 goal against average. EC got the better of Billadeau last season, scoring six goals on the goaltender en route to a 6-0 victory.

Title Defense

This is the third time in just 12 years of EC women’s ice hockey that the Purple and Gold will begin a season as the defending national champions. Despite losing some key pieces from last year’s team, the 2013-14 edition of EC women’s ice hockey has returned six of its top 10 scorers and is ready to bring another title back home. The Soaring Eagles successfully defended their first national championship, winning back-to-back titles in 2001-02 and 2002-03. EC became the first program to win NCAA Championships in each of their first two years of existence.

New USCHO Poll

The EC women’s ice hockey team held steady in the latest USCHO Poll, coming in as the number four team in the country. In fact, the entire top five stayed the same as the previous week’s poll as Elmira continues to look up at ECAC West rival, Plattsburgh State, Middlebury College, and Norwich University. The Soaring Eagles will have their chance to assert their superiority against the Panthers of Middlebury next week in a rematch of the 2013 National Championship game at the Cardinal-Panther Classic in Middlebury, VT.
