Opening Weekend

Elmira went 1-1 in the Emerson College Tip-Off Tournament. In the season opener, the Soaring Eagles defeated Manhattanville College 67-58, marking the first time that Elmira has won a season opener since November 11, 2007 when Elmira defeated Delaware Valley College 73-52. The Purple and Gold then advanced to the Tip-Off Championship game where they fell to Emerson College 58-53.

First Time

The 67-58 win over Manhattanville is the first time Elmira has won against the Valiants in the last five matchups dating back to the 198283 season. The closest matchup was in the 1991-92 season when the Soaring Eagles fell, 68-59.

All-Tournament Team

Jessica Zoltowski ’14 and Liz Forrest ’14 earned All-Tournament Honors for their efforts at the Emerson Tip-Off Tournament. Zoltowski totaled 38 points, 17 rebounds, six assists and three steals over the weekend while Forrest posted 25 points, 18 boards, three assists and one block.

20-Plus Night

Zoltowski’s 22 points against Manhattanville College isn’t the first time she has had a game where she has scored more than 20 points. In fact, she has dropped 20-plus points in 18 games over her career. The Soaring Eagles are 10-8 in games that Zoltowski has scored 20plus points.
