Home Opener
The Soaring Eagles opened the 2014-15 season in the confines of Speidel gymnasium on November 15th against Pitt-Bradford and fell to the Panthers, 71-47. Trailing by just five points with 3:34 left in the first half, the Panthers closed the half on an 8-2 run to take the momentum into halftime. Pitt-Bradford would outscore Elmira 38-25 in the second half to down the Purple and Gold.
A Sign Of Things To Come?
Rookie Danielle Cleary ’18 led the Soaring Eagles in scoring with 14 points against Pitt-Bradford. This is the first time a first-year player has led the Purple and Gold in scoring in a season opener in their rookie season since former EC standout Jessica Zoltowksi ’14 dropped 14 points against SUNY Cortland on November 16th, 2010. Zoltowski went on to become Elmira College’s all-time leading scorer with 1,631 career points.
Empire 8 Rookie of the Week
For her efforts against Pitt-Bradford, Danielle Cleary ’18 was named the Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Week. Along with her 14 points, she added two rebounds, an assist, and a team-high three blocks. Cleary becomes the first player from Elmira to be named Empire 8 Rookie of the Week in over four years.
Rebounding Monster
Meghan Loya ’16 pulled down 17 rebounds against Pitt-Bradford on November 15th. Not only did she improve her former career-best of 11, this is the most rebounds an EC player has made since Erin Rupell ’11 collected 17 on February 21st, 2009 against St. John Fisher College.

Of the 17 rebounds Meghan Loya ’16 grabbed, 14 were on the defensive end of the floor. This is the most defensive boards a Soaring Eagle has posted since Becca Fretz ’11 also took down 14 defensive rebounds on December 7th, 2010 against Ithaca College.
Not In My House
Elmira leads the Empire 8 Conference in blocked shots with an average of six per game. EC is an ahead of Nazareth College by 1.0 blocked shots per game. Rookie talent Danielle Cleary ’18 is tied for first in the Empire 8 for blocks per game with 3.0.
Making an Impact Kelsey Geisler ’15 leads the team in assists with five and shares the lead in steals with two so far this season. Geisler sits in a four-way tie for second in assists per game in the Empire 8 Conference with 5.0.
Double Digits Also having a strong showing against Pitt-Bradford was Karli Pochkar ’16 who posted 10 points. This is the first double-digit scoring effort since dropping 15 against the Stevens Institute of Technology Febuary 21st, 2014.

Against Pitt-Bradford the EC women recorded 28 points inside the paint. This is the most points scored inside the paint since dropping 32 against Hartwick College on February 7th, 2014.
Get The Maps Out
Elmira will compete in the University of Dallas Tip-Off Classic this weekend in Irving, TX. This is the furthest the EC squad has traveled since competing in the Key Largo Classic in Key Largo, FL in the 2012-2013 season. The Soaring Eagles will compete against the University of Dallas and Centenary College of Louisiana.
First Time For Everything
The matchups between the University of Dallas and Centenary College of Louisiana at the University of Dallas Tip-Off Classic will mark the first time Elmira will take on either team.
Scouting Dallas
The University of Dallas will open their season against Elmira. The Lady Crusaders have competed in an exhibition contest against Division II Fort Lewis College on November 14th. Dallas faced a 23-point deficit in the second half and went on a 19-6 run to pull within three points to fall just short, 56-53. Marleyna Bustamante ’15 led the Lady Crusaders offensively with 16 points while Caitlyn Worry ’17 and Seana Stoia ’16 both pulled down six boards in the exhibition win.
Scouting Centenary College of Louisiana
The Ladies of Centenary College will enter the University of Dallas TipOff Classic with a 0-2 record. Centenary opened the season with a 107-50 YouTube loss to the University of Texas at Tyler and then fell to Louisiana College, www.youtube.com/ECSportsInfo 96-62. Leading the Ladies on the offensive end is Linda Gomex Gil ’17 who has averaged 12.5 points a game while Briana Edwards ’16 is right Instagram behind Gomex with 10.5 points a game. Rebecca Thompson ’16 is setting www.instagram.com/ECSoaringEagles up the offense with 3.0 assists a game. 2
