Undergraduate Services Undergraduate Advising Services As an undergraduate student in the David Eccles School of Business, you’re never on your own. All business students have unlimited access to professional academic advisors to help guide your educational experience.

This is part of what we call the Eccles Experience. Our fully dedicated team of more than a dozen professional advisors — plus eight student peer advisors — meet with all business students to help with everything from class registration to learning abroad opportunities to graduation applications. Business Career Services The expert staff in Business Career Services provide personalized, specialized career development assistance to students. Career counselors and resources are available to assist with exploring careers, creating a career-planning timeline, developing job search strategies and building resumes. Business Tutoring Center The Eccles School offers a fully dedicated, free Business Tutoring Center for all pre-business and business students. The center strives to assist students in developing critical-thinking skills and effective study habits as they pursue expanding their knowledge and achieving academic success. DESCRIPTION

Accounting

Our accounting students move beyond merely tracking income and assets. Graduates engage in a wide variety of activities, including financial management, business transaction tracking, merger and acquisition strategy, information systems development, tax strategy and wealth management. Our excellent faculty prepare students to enter a constantly evolving field full of stimulating and challenging work.

Business Administration

Students receive a strong knowledge base and skillset across the fundamental disciplines of business: accounting, finance, management, operations management and information systems. Graduates possess a mix of business, technical and essential communication skills required in today’s management and leadership roles. Based on the broad nature of this degree, students are prepared for a wide range of business careers.

Entrepreneurship

This major teaches students to discover and create opportunities and pursue them through the creation of new products and services. It supports entrepreneurs and instills an entrepreneurial mindset. Students participate in highly experiential programs and activities offered by the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute in Lassonde Studios, one of higher education’s most innovative entrepreneurial spaces.

Finance

Finance students learn how to value projects, companies and securities. They also study how individuals and businesses efficiently allocate financial resources, invest and raise capital. Finance majors may participate in a variety of applied learning opportunities, including the Emerging Finance Professionals (EFP) program, Finance Career Conference, Student Investment Fund, Finance Club and Week on Wall Street. Our finance department ranks among the world’s top 30 universities in research, reflecting the high caliber of its faculty, curriculum, program and graduates.

Information Systems

Technology is an essential component of business, and professionals in information systems are leading the charge. Information systems creates efficient management of information within organizations in order to establish the most beneficial processes. Students in this program learn to manage the technical direction of business, solve technological issues and implement new technological advances to enrich business operations.

Management

Many professional careers require leaders skilled in the management of individuals and groups. All organizations need leaders who understand organizational culture, can adapt to or inspire change, can identify and implement effective strategies, and are capable of facilitating the efforts of others to accomplish organizational goals. The management degree provides students with a deeper understanding of leadership and a broad conceptual foundation to recognize the challenges managers and leaders face in the 21st century.

Marketing

Marketing is an organizational function and a set of processes for creating, communicating and delivering value to customers. Individuals with marketing backgrounds help organizations identify and satisfy customer needs using strategic thinking, business acumen, carefully designed communications and analytics. Marketing majors study diverse topics such as market research, consumer behavior, advertising and international marketing, as well as learn how to build brands that people want.

Operations Management

Operations Management (OM) involves working within an organization to oversee the quality and speed of business processes. Students study a firm’s profitability and how to improve process flows, enhance output quality and manage the supply chain. The OM program trains students how to think analytically and logically, giving them the ability to pursue any number of business careers.

Business Scholars

First Ascent Scholars

This is where high-achieving freshmen students receive an honors-level introduction to business disciplines. With an emphasis on experiential learning, Business Scholars work with top faculty to explore the challenges facing companies in accounting, data analytics, entrepreneurship, finance, management and marketing. Business Scholars have the unique opportunity to travel regionally and internationally to meet and interact with business leaders from the companies they study.

A Jeff and Helen Cardon Foundation and David Eccles School of Business partnership, First Ascent Scholars cultivates, encourages and enables academically focused students from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds to attend the Eccles School and connect with the University of Utah, local and global community while reaching their full academic potential. Opportunity Scholars This is a first-generation college student scholarship program. Opportunity Scholars contributes to the educational experience at the Eccles School by introducing students with diverse backgrounds and experiences into the classroom.

Business Leaders Incorporated Business Leaders, Inc. (BLInc.) is a student-run leadership group that combines student government with student clubs and engagement opportunities. BLInc. empowers the student experience through involvement and engagement in 30+ student clubs. They connect faculty, staff, students, alumni, and other community members to promote applied learning at the Eccles School.
