• The men’s soccer program won the National Championship in 2006 and advanced to the National Championship game in 2008 • Dowling has had four baseball student-athletes selected in the MLB First Year Player draft (Kip Roggendorf, ‘93, Toronto; Wilberto Ortiz, ‘06, Los Angeles (AL); Billy Mottram, ‘07, Chicago (NL); David Wendt, ‘09, Tampa Bay) • The men’s lacrosse team won the program’s first National Championship in 2012 • In 2012-13 Dowling’s women’s basketball team advanced to the National Championship game after becoming the second team in ECC history to win the NCAA East Region Tournament.

About Dowling

Founded in 1955 as part of Adelphi University’s Suffolk Campus, the college purchased the former W.K. Vanderbilt estate in Oakdale in 1962. In 1968 the college was renamed after its chief benefactor, Robert Dowling, a noted city planner and aviator. Situated on the banks of the Connetquot River on a former Vanderbilt estate, Dowling’s Rudolph Campus in Oakdale is among the nation’s most beautiful. The 105-acre Brookhaven Center is located on William Floyd Parkway in Shirley and features high-tech learning facilities for a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses. Located within walking distance to the Long Island Rail Road and featuring free parking and shuttle bus service, Dowling is easily accessible from both Suffolk and Nassau counties, as well as the five boroughs of New York City.

• In the final regular season game against Dowling, junior catcher Aly Dzierzynski set a new single-season program record with her 18th homerun of the season. • As of Apr. 20, the Pioneers ranked 10th in the nation with a combined slugging percentage of .551. • The Pioneers’ seven regular season losses (41-7) are the lowest in school history since the 1998 squad dropped just six (34-6).

• Senior John Petrucelli of the men’s basketball team set a few new program records this year, including: single-game scoring (39 points versus Bridgeport on December 11, 2013), single-season scoring, and all-time scoring.He also led NCAA Division II in steals per game for the majority of the season, and ranked in the Top-5 for points per game in the country throughout the year. • Senior Kelly Guerriero of the women’s basketball team set a new single-season three-point record as she has drained 85 treys. She paced the ECC in that category. • The men’s indoor track and team won its second-straight East Coast Conference Championship on February 22, 2014. The Lions amassed a total of 138 points at the title meet. • Senior Dan Brown was named to the All-ECC Men’s Soccer First Team this past Fall. • For the Fall 2013 semester, 10 Lions earned a perfect and pristine 4.0 GPA to join the 4.0 GPA Club.
