• Along with leading his team to the last two NCAA Division II East Regional titles and a berth in the NCAA Final Four two seasons ago, UB head women’s soccer coach Magnus Nilerud earned his 250th career victory this season. • UB has recently broken ground for a new baseball field adjacent to campus in beautiful Seaside Park. • The University of Bridgeport women’s gymnastics team has won six of the last nine USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Team Championships. • UB’s women’s swimming team captured its first Metropolitan Conference title in February of 2016.

• Junior James Varela is tied for eighth in Division II with 10 victories this season, breaking a new LIU Post program record for single-season victories as well as single-season strikeouts on the mound. • Head coach Mike Gaffney earned his 100th victory of his career against St. Thomas Aquinas College on May 5. • The 28 wins this season marks just the fourth time since 2010 that the Pioneers have won 25+ games. • The Pioneers are looking to capture the school’s third ECC title of the spring season after softball and women’s lacrosse earned conference titles last weekend.

• This season, the Spartans won their fifth ECC Regular Season Championship in the past seven seasons (2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018); they have captured three ECC Tournament titles (2013, 2014, 2015); and are in search of their sixth straight NCAA Tournament appearance, winning the East Regional Championship in 2014. • Joseph Pena is St. Thomas Aquinas’ career leader in hits (276), runs scored (187), on-base percentage (.492) and walks (170) • Giovanni Dingcong is St. Thomas Aquinas’ career leader in home runs (45), doubles (47) and RBI (175)

About St. Thomas Aquinas

The College’s 2,000 full and part time undergraduate students major in one of 31 programs offered in five division areas: The Humanitites; Business Administration; Social Sciences; Natrual Sciences & Mathematics; and Teacher Education. The College offers a full scholarship Honors Program which provides studens with a Summer Study experience at Oxford University in England. In addition there are several study abroud opportunities and strategic alliances designed to offer expanded opportunities for students. For example, students can major in mathematics at St. Thomas for three years and then enter a engineering program at either George Washington University or Manhattan College as part of a dual degree program. St. Thomas Aquinas College now fields 16 NCAA Division II sports, is an active member of the NCAA and supports 200 student-athletes. Men’s sports include: baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis and track & field (indoor and outdoor). Women’s sports include: basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis and track & field (indoor and outdoor). The Spartans’ and Lady Spartan’s teams compete in more than 300 contests annually.
