RURAL DRAMA Istanbul, Turkey BSc Graduation Project , 2021 Individual Project
RURAL DRAMA is a cultural center based on experiences and sociability, where cultural differences are understood and exchanged. By experiencing real emotions, the participants of a drama can adapt to life in the drama and explore actions, relationships and situations. In this direction, according to the design, people have a real experience in the site using all their sense organs and the culture is embedded in their cognitive memory. RURAL DRAMA consists a textile factory, timber workshop, cultural center and accommodation units. All building elements are designed in such a way that people can observe production, consumption and socialization. Thus, the cultural center became an experience center and turned into an improvised stage.

R UR A L M E M ORY O F S ILE
M E N TA L M A P O F S AHILKO Y Şile has been under the influence of many different cultures in the past. Due to its proximity to the sea, it has been subjected to many invasions and migrations. Thus, with the coming together of different cultures, it became a cultural synthesis and gained a cosmopolitan character. Common habits, images and life styles arising from the blending of different cultures and settling in the city are experienced, accumulated and reproduced in the city. In this context, it becomes impossible to detach the city from its historical context. The temporal stratification of the city has been studied. The project, which is designed programmatically, physically and cognitively with these layers, will be an interface for the survival and reconstruction of urban memory in the public sphere. 8

No situation exists in the city forever. Based on this, a design was created in which the common spirit of the society come together to form the architecture and the city. For this, it is recommended that areas such as terraces, courtyards, windows, transitions and roofs are designed as simultaneous scenes to interact dynamic interior and exterior life. By determining circulation lines, the spaces were designed to experience the culture and the vicinity, taking into account the data of the environment. Visual, olfactory, auditory and sensual interaction and experience points were created on the site by designing how the living in the space can be transferred to the outside. 12

S T R U C T U R A L SY S TEM It is aimed to increase the human-nature relationship by creating areas where nature infiltrates into the space. Thus, pivot glass and sliding systems are used on the facades. These elements constantly change the threshold between interior and exterior. Besides, perforated sunshading elements with varying hole sizes are designed according to privacy needs of the spaces. Thus, visual relationship between the interior and exterior was maintained and a similtaneous scene effect of the facade elements was created. According to the design approach, the buildings are considered as a raised of the existing topography. In this context, green roofs have been designed considering its characteristics such as protecting habitat and biodiversity and reducing the heat island effect. In addition, the spaces are fed from the roof and with the help of openings designed according to the spatial needs, solutions that reduce active energy use such as ventilation and quality daylight have been developed. FIFTH SENSE=EMPATHY Any Neighbourhood in the world Competition Project, 2021 | EQUIVALENT PRIZED Group Project with: Beril Çağlayan & Tayfun Parlak
Nature always takes back what belongs to it and develops a defense mechanism against the dangers around it. So what if human is an epidemic and coronavirus is a defense mechanism created by nature to defend itself? Hubert Reeves said, “We are at war with nature. If we win, we are lost.” If we understood the damage we do to nature and its consequences, would COVID-19 happen to us? In this direction, a place where people empathize with nature and each other was designed in order to realize a new behavior style dominated by the 5th sense and an attitude towards the future.

The designed empathy space consists of 5 layers and the life cycle continues even if the conditions change. As it reaches nature, the layers become transparent. The disaster condition describes a dystopia where man destroys nature. The human population is low, the places are sheltered and closed. The epidemic condition represents the present. The venues are closed for protection, and there is transparency from place to place. People gradually socialize with platforms that can transform into each other. The ideal neighborhood condition describes a life in which transparency-human-nature relations are in balance. People socialize in streets, squares, courtyards which is formed by platforms. Due to the movable platforms, places that are far from each other now become close to each other. Condition of reunion with nature represents a life where transparency is felt with open and semi-open spaces with the increase of the influence of nature. Condition of domination of nature consists of completely transparent platforms. It describes a situation where the oxygen level is high and the human population is decreasing. Excess of everything is harmful, so man seeks balance. Balance is the ideal neighborhood. 22

KADIKOY LIBRARY Istanbul, Turkey BSc Architectural Studio, 2020 Individual Project
The scope of the project is that the site that was originally a car park turned into a public plaza and provides the functions of coworking space and library. The continuity of the public space was provided by including the functions related to the urban texture at the ground level of the building. Permeability is main aim at the ground level. Therefore, the form was created on the basis of human movement and contunuity. The site is in a location with accessible and intense transportation facilities. This creates density and congestion. In the design of the building, it is aimed to relieve the area by distributing crowd and density.

. . . . With the openings created in the prevailing wind direction and in the other direction, wind circulation was created in the building via cross ventilation. . . . . An atrium is designed to increase the effectiveness of natural ventilation. The air, heated by the influence of people and other elements, is expelled from the skylight with openable casement window on the atrium. . . . . Filter glasses are used on the skylight for solar control. In addition, heat gain is minimized with the help of mesh and shading elements that form the building envelope.

P2P CENTER Istanbul, Turkey BSc Architectural Studio, 2019 Individual Project
Besiktas is one of the oldest and most historical districts of Istanbul. Its importance dates back to 16th century. Therefore, the main purpose of the design is to strengthen the relationship between people and historical pattern. P2P CENTER is a learning hub that aims to create a suitable environment for peer-to-peer learning as well as generating innovative ideas. It offers a community space, working spaces, and a technology lab. The design has created a public center by strengthening the relationship of the site with the environment. The created public spaces increase the use of the site by attracting people inside.
