The Academy Experience Our experienced and friendly staff provide a positive learning environment. Students will practise their English language skills, make new friends from all around the world, and develop their passion through speciality courses.

At EC Academy, our high ratio of staff will provide students with focused attention both in their English classes and their chosen specialist activity, ensuring that they get the most out of their time at the school. Outside of classes the students also have the opportunity to develop their non-academic pursuits with professional instructors and coaches in their chosen activity programme. University of California Los Angeles is located in the hills surrounding Los Angeles where you can find a great student neighbourhood. UCLA is one of the most respected educational institutions in the USA, with alumni including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, NBA legend, George Takei from Star Trek, and Taylor Wang, the first Chinese-born astronaut.

Our Academies are set in some of the most beautiful locations across the globe and offer students the chance to experience life as a local student.

Our Malta Academy is located in the north of this wonderful Mediterranean island at a 4-star resort, perfectly situated to enjoy the best that this sunny island has to offer. We offer an exciting range of activities including diving, coding and sailing, giving students useful skills for the future.

Roedean is one of the most prestigious independent boarding schools in the UK and is situated on the south coast with amazing views of the English Channel. The school is located just outside of Brighton, surrounded by green fields.

Our Unique Programmes A unique blend of English language and specialist courses alongside a full programme of activities and excursions with students from all over the world â&#x20AC;&#x201C; that is what makes the EC Academy experience something special. With maximum class sizes of 12, and an on-site staff to student ratio of 1:5, students will get the personal attention they need to maximise their progress with EC Academy. The international environment in our academies is perfect for learning English and will encourage students to step outside their comfort zone. As well as developing skills in the English language and their chosen specialist course, students will develop vital life skills through their participation in classes, activities and excursions. They will also get the opportunity to discover different cultures and explore new places which will boost their confidence and broaden their horizons in a supportive environment.

A great addition to a summer of learning CHOOSE BETWEEN 14 DIFFERENT SPECIALISED COURSES ACTIVITIES Activities are organised every evening to ensure students make friends, continue to put their English into practice, as well as develop important life skills. Four afternoons a week*, students will spend an hour in a whole-academy activity which is a great opportunity for existing students to meet new starters and catch up with friends they have already made. Evening activities range from talent shows and the Academy Carnival where students get to be creative and have fun, to quizzes and games which require students to use their teamwork and problem-solving skills. Our activity programmes also include a lot of different sports. An adventurous summer at Roedean

Professional instructors will focus on developing studentsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; techniques and skills required to progress in their chosen specialised course with fun and enjoyable sessions. At EC Academy we strive to ensure that every student leaves with confidence in their newly developed or improved skills and with a real sense of achievement. EXCURSIONS All students go on two half-day and three full day activities every two weeks*. Roedean students can enjoy trips to parks such as Thorpe Park or the world-famous Windsor Castle. Those studying in Malta can visit the capital city of Valletta, a UNESCO world heritage site, or explore Maltaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s sister island, Gozo. Your Home from Home We place the highest priority on care and supervision at our Academy locations to ensure students feel relaxed, comfortable and supported - creating a home away from home.

STUDENT CARE AND WELFARE The accommodation is made up of various boarding houses or single and shared rooms that are welcoming and comfortable.

Full-board meals at Roedean

Each Academy provides 24-hour pastoral care required for the students in their residence, waking them up every morning, making sure they eat well and are happy and participating.

MEALS A range of food is available at our Academy locations with three meals served per day. Additional snacks and drinks are also available twice a day on weekdays. On full-day excursions packed lunches will be provided.

MEET-AND-GREET UPON ARRIVAL EC Academy provides a dedicated meet-and-greet and transfer* service for all students to ensure a smooth arrival and transfer to centre.

DEPARTURE TRANSFER We provide a departure transfer* for all students and our team will also assist students checking in at the airport.

24-HOUR SUPPORT Anyone who has questions or needs any kind of support can speak to our staff at the centre or contact our dedicated Academy 24-hour emergency telephone number.

GUARDME INSURANCE All students travelling abroad must have adequate insurance in case of a medical or other emergency. EC Academy offers a comprehensive insurance policy called Guardme, which is specifically designed to meet the needs of international students. * Students may be grouped together with others that are arriving at a similar time unless specifically requested they travel individually.

Originally founded in 1885, Roedean is one of the most prestigious and well known independent boarding schools in the UK. Its current site was established in 1898 and offers excellent facilities, including 40 acres of playing fields and space for activities, several tennis courts, a large indoor sports hall, astro turf, squash courts and an indoor swimming pool with spectacular views out to sea. This beautiful school also provides art and dance studios, comfortable boarding houses and a modern dining room where students are offered a healthy and balanced diet. Studentsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; accommodation consists of mostly single and twin rooms, there are also several multi-bed rooms. Surrounded by the stunning South Downs countryside, the school overlooks Brighton Marina and is only a short bus ride away from the popular seaside city of Brighton. Trains from Brighton to London take less than an hour, which makes it a very accessible destination.

Students stay in a beautiful 4-star seafront resort in one of Malta’s most popular tourist destinations. Close to the sea and Malta’s sandy beaches as well as the aquarium, students will enjoy a wonderful summer resort experience in safe environment with the benefit of 4-star facilities. Students will stay in twin or triple rooms with en-suite bathrooms and a range of facilities including air conditioned rooms, mini-fridges and flat screen TVs. There are also two swimming pools at the hotel, plenty of communal spaces and wi-fi available throughout. Meals will be served in the resort with a wide range of options to satisfy even the most fussy eaters. Classes take place in airconditioned classrooms in the resort, ensuring students benefit from a very comfortable learning environment.

Horse Riding Ride at an equestrian centre that offers a wealth of experience in fantastic locations.

Each student will receive an ability test on their first day at the equestrian centre. The professional instructors will create a programme adapted to the students’ abilities and select a horse or pony accordingly for the week. Stable management will also be a part of the programme.

Each student will be evaluated on the first tennis session as to their level of play. Our professional coaches are all Lawn Tennis Association qualified with Level 2 or higher. Our coaches will ensure that students learn and practise a variety of skills and techniques, including serving, volleys, shots and etiquette on the court.

Sailing Make a splash this summer and take to the water for a sailing course.

This programme gives students the opportunity to take advantage of fully qualified and experienced instructors – accredited by the Royal Yachting Association in the UK and the Malta Young Sailors Club in Malta. Students will take to the water on the English Channel in our Roedean Academy, alternatively in Malta the students set sail on the crystal clear Mediterranean sea from the sea-side town of St Paul’s Bay. Students learn basic nautical skills and may sail a variety of boats. Buoyancy aids are provided. Students will be awarded RYA level 1 dinghy certificate (in the UK), and a Malta Young Sailors Club certificate or higher depending on their level and boats used.

Scuba Diving For students who’ve always wanted to learn how to scuba dive, it’s time to discover new adventures and see the wondrous world beneath the waves with a PADI Open Water certification!

Learning to dive is incredible, the PADI Open Water Course introduces students to breathing underwater for the first time and learn what they need to know to become a certified diver. The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world’s most popular scuba course and has introduced millions of people to the adventurous diving lifestyle.

Available at Malta Please note: Parents/guardian must sign a pre-registration form and consent form for the student to be allowed to participate

During the course, students will make at least five pool dives and four dives at local dive sites under the supervision of a local PADI Instructor. Malta is constantly rated one of the best diving locations in the Mediterranean, with crystal blue waters and lots of sites near the shoreline, including lots of shipwrecks.

On our surfing programme, students will start with basics of surfing including safety, basics and etiquette, as well as some practise. They will also lean about ocean ecology and conservation to complement their surfing practise. Students will expect to enjoy at least 4 days per week out surfing, at least 2 hours each session. All of our instructors are certified members of The International Surfing Association (ISA) and will be there to help students every step of the way.

With our curriculum at UCLA designed by graduates of some of the leading Ivy League universities in the US. In Malta the programme is brought to students by PWC. Students will use games like Fortnite, Overwatch, Minecraft or League of Legends to further their understanding of the industry. At UCLA students have access to a full lab including 3D printers, computers and any other technology required to complete their projects.
