Alexandria’s Maggie Leland sets re cord at state Page 5

New division to debut for 2010 Resorters The Junior Division will be divided into two sections for 2010 And then there were seven. This year’s Junior Division field has been divided in two – 10-12year-olds and 13-14year-olds – giving this year’s field for the 89th Resorters Golf Tournament a total of seven divisions. And only one other division will have a new champion as six-time defending titlist Ron Clayton of Sarasota, Florida, will not be among the field taking the course in the Masters Division. All other divisions will see the defending champion returning to make a stab at a repeat. They begin that action on Monday as qualifying play opens at the Alexandria Golf Club and is open to all spectators. Men Jim Lehman, Jr. entered the Resorters last year for the first time since 1983. He was the 2003 Minnesota Golf Association MidAmateur champion. He is back looking for a repeat, but will have a full field standing in his way, including five former champions – Mark Lindberg of Coppell, Texas (2002, 2003), Pete Passolt of Minneapolis (1989), Greg Peterson of Rochester (2001), Jerry Rose of Sarasota, Florida (1979, 1983, 2000) and Tyler Whiting of Alexandria (2008). Add to that three former Junior Division

Five of last year’s Resorters Golf Tournament champions will be returning for another shot at a title, with the only missing champion being Ron Clayton of Sarasota, Florida (second from left). The other champions – Jack Dressen of Edina (2004), Sean Halverson of Baxter (2007) and Jason Whiting of Maple Grove (1995), and you have a formidable field awaiting Lehman. Executive Men Stefan Freeman of St. Cloud won his first Resorters title last year and is back to try for another. Last year, Freeman had to defeat his brother, Jon, for the title and battled him for 19 holes before winning. Both golfers are back

for another try, as is the 2005 champion, Kevin Kirkwood of Plano, Texas. Senior Men The defending champ in this division, John Empanger of Chaska, has competed in the Resorters Golf Tournament since the early 1970s and has only missed one year. He also won Executive titles in 1993, 1997, 2004, 2007 and 2008 and is back for a shot at a four-peat. He will have to contend with a tough field

that includes Joe Klick of Albert Lea, the Executive Men’s champion in 1998 and 2001. Masters A new Masters champion? Say it isn’t so! But it will be, as the six-time defending champion, Ron Clayton of Sarasota, Florida, is not among the 2010 field in this division. Clayton has a total of eight Resorters titles in all, including two Senior Men’s titles, but won’t be adding to it this year. A scheduling conflict is keeping him joining the

field. That’s not to say the competition in this division won’t be of the same caliber, as four players with a total of eight titles between them will be in this year’s field. Leading the way is George Cliff of Mankato, who was the Senior Division champion in 2001, 2002, 2005 and 2007. Alexandria’s Wayne Elton holds claim to the former Super Senior SEVEN DIVISIONS

Welcome Contestants & Spectators to the 89th Resorters Invitational Golf Tournament...

2010 Resorters Pro-Am kicks off tournament on Sunday afternoon Alexandria Golf Club pro Jeremy Decko is a familiar face on the golf course, and on Sunday, he will be looking to claim his third straight Sprint All-State Wireless/Alexandria Area Hotels and Hospitality Committee ProAm title. Decko was the solo winner of the crown in 2008, then shared the victory with Ben Meyers of the Medina Golf and Country Club and Jeff Sorenson of the Columbia Golf and Learning Center as all three turned in rounds of 68 to tie. In its 23rd year, the Pro-Am will feature many pros from around the state, including seven-time champion Don Berry of the Edinburgh Golf Club. For the first 16 years of the ProAm, it served as the kickoff for the annual Resorters Golf Tournament, but moved away from that event in 2004. But for its 21st season, the ProAm, sponsored this year by Sprint All-State Wireless, returned to the Resorters Golf Tournament to kick off a week of exceptional golf in Alexandria, and it will do so again this year. Other sponsors of the Pro-Am include the Echo Press newspaper and State Bank and Trust. NEW DIVISION from Page 1 former Super Senior (now Masters) title from 2001 and Dave Harris, also of Alexandria, has Senior Men’s titles from 1998 and 2006. They will be joined on the course by Jim Fitzgerald of Montgomery, Texas, who took the Super Senior title in 2000. Women Maggie Leland of Alexandria, has two Resorters titles to her name, having won in 2007 and 2009, and will be a formidable opponent as she comes off her best season of high school golf, having won the State Class AAA championship and setting a state record in the process and breaking a 29year-old record with a two-day score of 143. But she won’t be the only state champion as Minnewaska’s Sarah Roering of Glenwood enters the field for the first time this year. Roering tied for the Class AA title with her teammate Allie Ostrander this year, and also boasts of a state title in 2008. Betsy Aldrich of St. Louis Park, is back for another shot at the Women’s title, having last won that crown in 2008. She also owns

the 2003 title, and is the Executive Women’s division champion from 2007. Her name is not alone on the winners’ lists as Connie Sornsin of Goodyear, Arizona returns to the field after a one-year hiatus. Sornsin has a pair of Women’s Division titles under her belt, grabbing the crown in 2002 and 2004. Junior 10-12 A new division will be unveiled this year as the Junior Division is divided into two, guaranteeing the second new champion for this Resorters. The 10-12-year-old division will have 16 players, with two of them actually 9 years old. Junior 13-15 The defending champion in the overall Junior division, 14-year-old Nick Heinen of Edmond, Oklahoma, won the title last year in a record-high field of 52 players. The division of the Junior field into two sub-divisions puts Heinen in the older, larger group that consists of 48 players. That group boasts 20 players from Alexandria.

Leland sets state mark during state championship By Eric Morken Sports Reporter Alexandria’s Maggie Leland used to spend eight hours a day on a golf course hoping one day all those hours would translate into a state title and an opportunity to play college golf. The latter of those was realized last winter when she signed a letter of intent to play golf at the Division II level at Augustana College. For three years, though, the first of those goals had eluded her. Leland had a chance as the Cardinal girls advanced to the state tournament the last three seasons. She came into every tournament as a threat, but her highest finish came last spring when she tied for 10th with a two-day score of 163. That could have set the tone for day two at the Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids last Wednesday. Leland was one back heading into her final 18 holes as a high school golfer. Five

players were separated by just two strokes at the top of the leader board. It took Leland all of two holes to begin to separate herself from that group. She used a six iron to stick her second shot on the par-five No. 2 to within 10 feet. She calmly drained that putt for an eagle. It was a big boost after she felt she let a birdie slip away on No. 1. “I just barely missed birdie on the first hole,” she said. “So to get two strokes back on the second hole was like getting revenge on No. 1. To be two under put me in a great spot, but I tried to stay pretty level headed because I still had 16 holes left. I didn’t get ahead of myself, but in my head it was obviously exciting.” That was just the beginning in what would turn into a special day for Leland. She finished off the front with two bogeys and three more birdies. She put it on cruise control on the back, carding one more birdie to finish

with a four-under, 69. Leland did not just win the state title, she did it in style, eclipsing a record that had stood for 29 years with her two-day score of 143. That put her five shots ahead of the nearest competitor and six shots in front of last year’s champion, Betsy Kelly of Forest Lake. “It means the world just to be able to say I broke that record and played my best at my biggest meet,” Leland said. “I had no idea about the record. After the round, a guy introduced himself and said he had coached the girl who set the record before. I didn’t even know what to say to him. He was almost in tears. It was great to meet him and nice of him to come and congratulate me on that.” It was a fitting end to what was an almost perfect senior season for Leland. She had already established herself as one of Minnesota’s top prep golfers in the past few years. This year, though, she took her

Leland lost just one meet all season. That came by one stroke against Minnewaska’s Sarah Roering on May 20 in St. Cloud. Leland added some distance to

her driver and her irons this season. That allowed her to hit irons that she felt more comfortable with on her approach shots. The end result was more make-

What’s better than having a golfer win a state title? How about co-champions? Minnewaska seniors Sarah Roering and Allie Ostrander finished their twoday Class AA tournament competition in a deadlock at 150 to share the 2010 individual title and lead their Laker team to an unprecedented fifth straight championship – three in Class AA and two in Class A. No other school has ever won more than three consecutive titles. Both Lakers seniors were on all five state championship teams. Roering was the state Class AA champion in 2008, with her sister, Colorado State University golfer Emily Roering, taking the Class AA title in 2009. Both years, Ostrander earned runner-up honors. Masters Division race is wide open in 2010 Defending champ Ron Clayton will not be back If it is any solace, Alexandria’s Dave Harris came closer to dethroning Sarasota, Florida’s Ron Clayton than anyone has ever done during the

finals of the Men’s Masters’ Division last year. Clayton stretched his streak to six straight Masters’ championships by defeating Harris 1-up in a back-andforth battle. “I guess winning never gets old,” he said during the awards ceremony. “I

2010 MASTERS DIVISION am old, but the winning doesn’t get old…I do know I’ve had my picture taken more with Jon Empanger (a five-time Executive champion and this year’s Senior winner) more than my wife.” Harris and Clayton came into the 2009 tournament with nine Resorters titles between them. Harris won the Senior championship in 1998 and 2006, while Clayton added a 1994 and 2000 Senior championship to his five Masters titles. With such loaded resumes, the gallery was expecting a tight match. That’s exactly what they got. Harris

struck first with a par win on No. 1 before Clayton evened things up on the fourth with a par of his own. Harris responded from there by taking Nos. 5 and 6 with birdies. Clayton, like he usually does, had an answer. He picked up a birdie win of his own on the par-three seventh before a par win on No. 8 evened things up again. That is how they would head into the back. The match was then decided on Nos. 12 and 13. Clayton took advantage of two bogeys by Harris to move to 2-up with par wins. That lead would hold until Harris birdied No. 16 to move within one hole. He would still need Clayton to slip MASTERS Page

Resorters tournament uses match play Play in the Resorters Golf Tournament is match play, which is quite different from regular scoring. For those unfamiliar with it, in match play golfers compete not for strokes, but for holes. Whoever shoots the lowest score on a hole wins it. In the case of a tie, neither golfer moves up. A score of 1-up means a golfer won one more hole out of 18 than his or her opponent. A score of 3-2 means a golfer was up three holes with two holes remaining, so the final two holes were not played. A score of 5-4 means a golfer was up five holes with only four holes remaining so the final four holes were not played.

Resorters newspaper will be published five times during the tournament The Resorters paper will be published five times during the 2010 Resorters Golf Tournament. The pre-tournament issue is the first containing stories and pictures of the returning players, last year’s results, history of the tournament and other general information. Other issues will be published following qualifying on Wednesday morning with issues also on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday mornings following match play. Copies will be located at various places around the club and as usual are free of charge. It will be greatly appreciated if all cham-

pionship flight players will fill out their cards during the tournament and match play. We know this takes some extra time but it is easier to write stories and conduct interviews following the matches. If you know of something exciting or newsworthy that happens during the tournament in any of the flights that we may not be aware of and may not get much publicity, please pass it along. We want to make this as successful as possible and wish all the participants in the 2010 tournament the best of luck.

Heinen hunting for second Junior Division title Minnetrista’s Tommy Brandabur picked the wrong time to play his worst round of the Resorters tournament last year. Brandabur locked up with Edmond, Oklahoma native Nick Heinen in the Junior finals and got off to a start that included two bogeys and a double-bogey. That helped Heinen, the 2008 runnerup, get off to a 2-up lead that he would only build upon on his way to an 8-7 win for the champi-

onship. The Junior Division started with a record high 52 entrants at the start of the week. In the end, it was Heinen who stood tall with four steady rounds in match play. Heinen shot great to take advantage of Brandabur’s struggles. A birdie on No. 4 gave him a 3-up lead and that was just the start. Heinen’s only blemish through the rest of the round came

Nick Heinen of Edmond, Oklahoma returns for his chance to secure a second straight Junior Division title after winning in 2009. He will be in the Junior 13-15 Division as the large number of entrants allowed for the Juniors to be divided into two separate divisions.

2010 JUNIOR DIVISION on No. 9 when he bogeyed to halve the hole. Pars on Nos. 5, 6, 7 and 8 were all good for wins as he took a seven-hole lead into the back nine. Once there, he wasted no time putting the match away. Heinen went 8-up with another par on No. 10. All that was needed now was a push and the match would be over. That is exactly what he got on No. 11 when both players parred to send Heinen back to Oklahoma a champion. 2009 JUNIOR QUALIFYING Max Coatta, Minnetonka, medalist76 Nick Heinen, Edmond, OK............77 Tommy Brandabur, Minnetrista .....81 Nicholas Brundell, Alexandria .......81 Brady Hafdal, Alexandria ..............81 Mathew Bennett, Marshall ............82 Charlie Johnson, Shorewood .......82 Austin Fowler, Grand Rapids........84 Conor Freeman, Chanhassen ......84 Connor Lehman, Plymouth ...........84 Austin McCulloch, Alexandria .......84 Brandon Bistodeau, Alexandria ....85 Lukas Bigger, Alexandria ..............86 Hunter Bruhn, Buffalo ...................86 Alex Freeman, Chanhassen .........87 Mitch Freeman, Chanhassen .......87 TUESDAYʼS RESULTS Max Coatta def. Freeman returns for another title battle It was a match that featured a huge comeback with some unusual circumstances during last year’s championship. The Executive Men’s finals saw two brothers going head-to-head in Stefan Freeman of St. Cloud and Chanhassen’s Jon Freeman. In what

was a tale of two nines, it was the younger Stefan who came out on top in a thrilling 1-up, 19-hole match. This one looked to be Jon’s match from the get-go. He jumped out to a 3up lead after three holes with a birdie and two par wins. That lead was pushed to five holes after taking Nos.

2010 EXECUTIVE MEN’S DIVISION 5 and 7 with pars. That is how he coasted into the back before Stefan found his game. Stefan knew he would have to do something special in the final nine holes and that is exactly what he did, shooting fourunder to tie the match and send it to extra holes. Stefan started his charge on No. 11 with his first of back-to-back birdie wins. The two halved No. 13 before another birdie win on the 14th gave Stefan reason to believe that a comeback was now within reach at two back. With three holes, he still found himself down by that margin. But on Nos. 16 and 17, he made it up with two par wins to even things up. Then on the 18th, both players overcame the pressure to birdie the hole and send it back to the first tee box. It was there that Stefan completed

the comeback by picking up a par win to secure his first-ever Resorters title. “It was an unbelievable day,” he said. “I was five down at one time and somehow clawed back, partly through Jon’s graciousness and party my own effort.” The win capped off an incredible day for Stefan that saw him reach the finals by edging Chad Johnson of Eden Prairie 1-up early Saturday morning. Jon had things come a little easier in his semifinals match with a 5-4 win over Eric Heimsness of Woodbury. In the end, it will be the spirited comeback that will be remembered most by both players. Shooting fourunder on the back helped Stefan overcome five bogeys on the front. It will be a round to talk about in the EXECUTIVE

Straight away, but fairway drops sharply. Tree-filled roughs can create a lot of problems.

Elevated tee, elevated green with a dipsydoodle in between. Cavernous bunkers left and right protect the “Texas” green.

A relatively short, but dangerous finishing hole. Out-of-bounds on right and thick wooded area left make accurate tee shots crucial.

Leland looking to add third Resorters crown The Alexandria graduate already has tournament titles from 2007 and 2009

2010 WOMEN’S DIVISION

Alexandria’s Maggie Leland, who will be a high school senior at Jefferson High School in Alexandria this fall, won her second Women’s Division with a 5-3 win over Allison Thimjon of Plymouth last year at the Alexandria Golf Club during the Resorters Golf Tournament championship. Leland won her first title in 2007. “I hit my driver well,” she said after her 5-3 win. “My short game was not very good and my front nine was not too good, but I played well on the back.” Leland said the key to her match was going 1-up on No. 9, which started her on a roll where she won the next two holes. How does this win compare to her victory two years ago? “It hasn’t really sunk in yet,” she said. “It’s fun – this is one of my favorite tournaments.” She is no stranger to success on the golf course, having been the Central Lakes Conference medalist the past three years for the Cardinals and has been among the top four golfers in the conference since 2006. She has also been a participant in the State Class AAA girls’ golf tournament for three years, most recently earning the individual state title while setting a new state record low score. Leland hasn’t decided yet where she will be attending college. She said she plans to golf for a Division II college

able putts. It all added up to a state championship and the top spot in the final Minnesota Golf Association rankings that came out on June 10. “I just took it one shot at a time,” Leland said about her improvement this year. “I think I got ahead of myself in the past in order to shoot a

certain score. This year, I just went with it and didn’t let my emotions get to me.” That showed on day two at Bunker Hills last Wednesday. Leland said she was not nervous at all when she stepped onto the first tee box with a one-shot deficit. “I was actually just really excited,” she said. “I knew that one of the girls in the top five was going to take it, and I

am really good friends with all of them. Either way, it would have been fine.” That attitude helped her post one of the best rounds of her high school career at the most important time. Leland was already a Central Lakes Conference and a Section 8AAA medalist. Her latest title trumps all of those accolades – the perfect ending to an almost perfect season.

Empanger looks to defend Senior championship Jon Empanger of Chaska, the 2009 medalist in the Senior Division at the Resorters Golf Tournament, also won the 2009 championship trophy last year, defeating defending champion Peter Glanville of Scottsdale, Arizona 7-6. “I played well all week,” said Empanger. “In fact, this is the best I’ve played in this tournament ever. I was under par in every one of my matches.” Empanger, the medalist, was 3under par in the final match. “I don’t know what it is about this course, but I always seem to play well here,” he said. Empanger has competed in the Resorters since the early 1970s, missing only one tournament over the years, and has a trophy case full of Resorters awards, winning the Executive Men’s championship in 2008, 2007, 2004, 1997 and 1993. To get the championship, Empanger defeated Dave Anderson of Eden Prairie, 3-2, Byron Zinn of Spicewood, Texas, 3-1, Joe Klick of Albert Lea, 6-4 and Larry Novotny of Alexandria, 5-3. Glanville earned his way into the championship with wins over Brad Hanson of Alexandria, 3-2, Tom Vipond of Woodstock, Georgia, 2-1, Greg Mattson of Becker 1-up in 19 holes and Gary Burton of Scottsdale, Arizona 3-1. 2009 SENIOR MEN QUALIFYING Peter Glanville, Scottsdale, AZ ...................................DC Jon Empanger, Chaska, medalist ................................72 Dave Battey, Alexandria...............................................73 Jeff Pederson, Haymarket, VA.....................................73 Gary Burton, Scottsdale, AZ ........................................74 Larry Novotny, Alexandria............................................74 Steve Herzog, Little Falls.............................................75 Greg Mattson, Becker..................................................75 Joseph Klick, Albert Lea ..............................................76 Gene Seashore, Appleton............................................76 Michael Fluegel, Morris................................................77

Lehman claims 2009 Men’s championship Back when the Lehman brothers – Jim Jr., Tom and Mike – were growing up in Alexandria in the 1970s, their dad, Jim Sr., told them he’d be very proud if they ever qualified for a Resorters Golf Tournament championship. The whole Lehman family was beaming after last year’s Men’s Division championship. Jim Lehman Jr., now of Plymouth, defeated Will Harris of Alexandria 5-4 to win the title. “Oh wow! I can’t tell you what a great thrill it is to be here – to come back home and be part of this tournament,” said the 51-year-old Lehman after his big win at the Alexandria Golf Club. His feat duplicated what Tom Lehman, now a pro with several championships to his credit including the 1996 British Open, did back in 1980. Tom Lehman defeated Bill Israelson 3-2 that year to win the Resorters. The youngest Lehman, Mike, made it to the Resorters finals twice (1996 and 1990) but didn’t win. On Saturday morning, Lehman advanced into the finals with a 2-1 win over former Alexandrian, Jack Dressen. Lehman trailed by one at the turn but won three holes on the back – Nos. 12, 15 and 16 with a birdie and two pars to steal the lead. He advanced to the finals by matching Dressen’s par on No. 17. Harris, meanwhile, made it into the finals with his third straight overtime win – a 19-hole thriller over Geoff Klein of Mankato. Klein won four straight holes on the front, Nos. 5 through 8, and led by three at the turn, but Harris battled back, winning Nos. 10, 11, 14 and 15 on the back nine. Klein was able to win only one hole on the back, a par on No. 6, and he could only match Harris’ pars on the final three holes, which sent the match into overtime. Harris won the first extra hole with par to make his first appearance in the finals. A good-sized gallery gathered to watch the Harris-Lehman match, which was played under overcast skies with only a whisper of a wind to cool the muggy afternoon. Lehman jumped out front early with a birdie on No. 1. Harris tied it with a par on No. 3 but Lehman countered with a par win on No. 4 to regain the lead. Leman padded his advantage with a nifty up-and-down birdie out of the left bunker on No. 6 to go 2-up. Lehman also found the trap on the short No. 7. He chipped out and was eyeing a long putt for par but he made it again, keeping his lead intact and drawing a burst of applause from the gallery. After halving No. 8 with pars, both finalists left their approach shots short on No. 9. Lehman, however, rolled his birdie try to within just a couple of feet while Harris was still 20 feet away. Lehman dropped in his par and Harris didn’t, giving Lehman a 3up lead at the turn. With a light mist now falling, Lehman kept the pressure on by winning No. 11 with birdie. Harris’ birdie try just missed and he now trailed by four. Harris earned a hole back on No. 12 with a birdie to draw within three. Lehman made his only mistake of the day on that hole, hooking his tee shot

2010 MEN’S DIVISION out of bounds. Lehman wasn’t about to let this one slip away though. He won No. 13 with par to go 4-up and he hit his approach on No. 14 dead at the stick, rolling the ball just six feet from the cup. The match came to an end, 5-3, minutes later when Lehman drained the birdie putt to take the hole. Although Harris lost, he was happy to reach the Resorters’ final plateau. “I’m not upset – I just didn’t really have my game going,” he said. “I tried to scramble but he had his game on.” Harris, a 21-year-old senior at the University of Minnesota, also has a rich tradition of golf running through his family. His uncle, John, made it to the Resorters semifinals in 1972, is a former U of M All American and is on the PGA tour. His grandfather, Dr. Bob Harris, lost in the final of the U.S. Senior Amateur last year. Lehman, the 2003 Minnesota Golf Association Mid-Amateur champion, credited his experience to making the difference in the Resorters. “I wasn’t the best player in the field – there were a lot of young, talented kids in this.” “I was 1-up or more the whole way,” he added about his match against Harris. “He just didn’t play as well in the afternoon as he did in the mornEcho Press photo ing.” Jim Lehman Jr. of Plymouth captured the 2009 Resorters Men’s Division title and Consistency was also key. “I hit my driver solid and kept it in returns again this year for another try. the fairway,” Lehman said. “Some of these young guys like to bomb it but it’s better to play your own game, hit it down the fairway, get on the green and make a birdie every once in a while.” This year is the first time since 1983 that Lehman has entered the Resorters. A 1976 graduate of Jefferson High School, Lehman said he spent most of his free time since then building his business and didn’t have a lot of time KYLE BAHE (NA), Annandale, MN, Student, NA. for golf until he was into his 40s. LAKERS from Page 5

CHIP SHOTS ALBATROSS: A score of three under par for a single hole. Also called a double eagle. BANANA BALL: A bad slice, so called because the flight of the ball resembles the shape of a banana. BARBER: A player who talks to the point of annoyance. BISQUE: A handicap stroke given to one opponent that may be used on any hole. COLLAR: Edge of a sand hazard. CROSS-BUNKER: A narrow bunker that crosses a hole at a right angle to the player’s line of flight to the green. DORMIE: A situation in match play when a player or a side is ahead by the amount of holes remaining to be played. In such a case, the trailing player or side must win the remaining holes to come out even. EAGLE: A score of two under par for a single hole. FOOZLE: A bad shot. Also called a dub. FRIED EGG: A ball that is buried in sand. Also called a plugged lie. FROG HAIR: The short grass that borders the putting green. GIMMEE: Baby talk for “give me,” a putt of two feet or less that a friendly opponent declares does not have to be holed out. GOBBLE: A putt that unexpectedly lands in the hole.

But to win that title and the team championship, the two seniors, as well as their teammates, had to battle 35-mile per hour swirling winds. Minnewaska posted a day one score of 305, which was actually one stroke better than last year’s first day to take an early 14-stroke lead, but those winds played havoc with the Lakers’ long drive game. They eked out a one-stroke day two edge over Red Wing to take the title by a two-day margin of 15. Red Wing, incidentally, has finished second to Minnewaska each of the last three years. Minnewaska actually had three players in the top 10 as junior Sam Falk finished sixth with a 161. Sophomore Brianna Janu tied for 18th with 171, freshman Alex Guggisberg tied for 32nd with a 178 and 7th grader Jenna Janu tied for 35th with a 179. The Lakers, who have not finished lower than second since the end of April in 2005, have a string of at least 75 straight victories dating back to May of 2006. And that makes them just the third team in the nation to have a string of wins that long. Henderson Green Valley of Nevada posted 144 consecutive wins spanning 1992 to 2004, with Phoenix Xavier College Preparatory in Arizona having three different strings of 128 (19851996, 123 (1996-2007) and 77 (1979-1985) straight wins. Sarah Roering of Glenwood, the State Class AA co-champion, is among the field of Women’s Division players in the Resorters Golf Tournament this year.
