A day for emotions – and defending champions Golfers, thank goodness, aren’t machines. Sometimes, they let their emotions out, especially after a crucial putt, a missed opportunity or a gift from the golf gods. During yesterday’s Resorters action, all kinds of emotions bubbled to the surface as the championship divisions tightened another notch. Norty Blanchard (left) of Burnsville turned his eyes to the sky and tried to distance himself from a missed putt on the 5th green in his Senior Men’s match against the division’s defending champion, Jon Empanger. In the Men’s Championship Division, Jim Lehman (above) clenched his fist in triumph after his birdie putt dropped in on the 5th green. It was a good day for defending champions. The three who are still in contention – Empanger, Lehman and Women’s Championship titlist Maggie Leland – all advanced with victories.

Two former Alexandrians to clash today Constable, Todora also advance in Men’s play Two former Alexandrians – Jim Lehman Jr. and Jack Dressen – are still in the hunt for the Resorters Men’s Division trophy. Lehman cruised to a 6-5 victory while Dressen won a 1-up dogfight. They’ve both won big here before – Lehman is the division’s defending champion and Dressen hoisted the Junior Division title in 2004. But after they duke it out in this morning’s semifinals, the winner will still face stiff competition – either Dominic Todora of Woodbury or Don Constable of Deephaven. Here’s a look at yesterday’s action: Lehman def. Bahe, 6-5 It just wasn’t Kyle Bahe’s day. The Annandale golfer couldn’t find any of the birdie magic that’s needed to knock off a defending champion like Lehman. Lehman, who now lives in Plymouth, won four holes on the front, Nos. 2, 5, 7 and 9 while Bah managed just one win, a par on No. 9 so he trailed by three at the turn. After swapping pars on No. 10, Lehman went in for the kill, winning No. 11 with birdie, No. 12 with an eagle and No. 13 with par, which gave him a speedy 6-5 victory. Dressen def. Strandemo, 1-up The other match in the upper division was another story. Sixteen-year-old Thomas Strande-

mo of Fargo, North Dakota gave Jack Dressen of Edina almost more than he could handle. Although Dressen took the first lead with a birdie on No. 4, Strandemo stormed back with wins on Nos. 5 and 6 with par, birdie and tallied another birdie win on the 9th hole to go 2-up at the turn. Dressen won No. 10 but fell back again when Strandemo knocked in yet another birdie on No. 11. Dressen again narrowed the gap to one with a par win on No. 13 but could only tie Strandemo on the next three holes. Down by one with two holes left, Dressen needed a fast comeback and he delivered, winning No. 17 with birdie and then icing the match with a birdie on the final hole to win it, 1-up. “I felt like I was down all day,” Dressen commented after the match. “Thomas is a great player and he has a very bright future in front of him. A couple of timely birdie putts on 17 and 18 allowed me to escape with the W.” Todora def. Robley, 2-1 Alexandria’s Brian Robley battled valiantly through 14 holes but Dominic Todora saved his best stuff for last to pull off a 2-1 comeback. The match was a close from the get go. Robley won three holes on the front, Nos. 2, 3 and 7, but Todora nullified that with wins on Nos. 1, 5 and 9 to draw even at the turn. Todora took his second lead of the MEN Page

Two state champs to face off Alexandria’s Maggie Leland and Glenwood’s Sarah Roering will battle for the title today

WHO’S IN THE TITLE FIGHT? Maggie Leland is the defending Resorters Women’s Division champion; she has two titles to her name She is the State Class AAA individual champion Sarah Roering is the State Class AA individual champion
Today’s Women’s Division championship is shaping up to be a doozy. Alexandria’s Maggie Leland, the defending champion and two-time title holder in this division, will face off against neighboring golfer Sarah Roering of Glenwood. Roering, a two-time State Class AA champion, is making her first entry into this tournament and is the only golfer to have defeated Leland during high school play this spring – that by only one stroke. Leland, too, has state tournament accolades. She pounded her opposition at the State Class
She is also the 2008 State Class AA champion
AAA tournament to capture individual honors in her third trip there, setting a state record in the process as she carded a two day score of 143 to break a mark that had stood for 29 years. Roering is a state record-holder as well. She and her Minnewaska teammates broke the record for the most state championships when they won their fifth consecutive title this spring. They also have the record for the lowest team score ever posted at state. Their five consecutive state championships is
the third highest in the nation. Both players will be heading for the college courses next year as Leland joins her sister, Molly, at Augustana College and Roering will meet up with her sister, Emily, at Colorado State University. That should make for one of the most interesting, if not one of the most skilled, matches of the day. So step up and watch, folks. Action will begin at 12:40 p.m. on the first WOMEN

Leland defeats Woodhull Leland def. Woodhull 5-4 Leland’s match yesterday against Amanda Woodhull of Minnetonka showcased her ability to play consistent golf as she used her talent for distance off the tee to her advantage. Neither player stepped up early as they shared the first three holes of play before Leland nabbed a pair of wins on a par and a birdie. The two finished out the first half on an even footing, leaving Leland up by two at the turn. Leland, who had just two bogeys on the front nine, stayed where she needed to be on No. 10 winning with par, the same thing she needed for wins on the next two holes. A not-so-stellar hole awaited both players on No. 13, but Leland was able to edge Woodhull to close out the match 5-4. “My opponent 3-putted from three feet for me to get to 5-4,” sad Leland. “I had a birdie at 12 to go 5-up, and was 2-up at the turn.” Roering nips Aldrich 1-up Roering didn’t have quite as easy a time of it in her match as she battled Betsy Aldrich of St. Louis Park, a golfer with
three Resorters titles to her name. Both players scorched the course as Roering notched three birdies and Aldrich two for the day. Aldrich, a name very familiar to the Resorters tournament, was the first to gain a foothold as she picked up a win on No. 2 with a par, but Roering knocked the match back to even with her own par win on the next hole. She then fired two of her birdies for the day – on Nos. 5 and 6 – giving her a 2-up lead heading onto the back nine. The Glenwood golfer’s third birdie came right away as they finished off No. 10, giving Roering a 3-up lead, but Aldrich is never through until the match is over. She fired her first birdie on the next hole, then added another birdie win on No. 13 to even things up. Both players shared the 14th hole before Roering picked up a par win on No. 15. From there, the two golfers didn’t give an inch, playing the last three holes shotfor-shot to leave Roering up by one at the finish and giving her a spot in today’s final.

Eagles carry Empanger, Mattson to narrow wins The two Resorters veterans will face off at 12:20 on No. 1 Will Jon Empanger of Chaska add a seventh Resorters’ championship to his trophy case? Not if Greg Mattson of Becker has anything to say about it. Both men advanced into today’s final match with hard-fought wins yesterday. Empanger’s match wasn’t decided until the 17th hole and Mattson, who played 19 holes on Thursday, had to go the full 18 to beat Gene Seashore of Lakewood Ranch, Florida in the semifinals. Both finalists carded an eagle yesterday on the same hole, No. 12. Empanger of Chaska is a five-time winner in the Executive Division and won all the marbles in the Senior Men’s Championship last year. Here’s a recap of yesterday’s action: Empanger def. Blanchard, 2-1
Norty Blanchard of Burnsville played near flawless golf against the defending champion. He was even-par on the front and managed to win two holes, No. 3 with par and No. 8 with birdie. But Empanger showed why he has so much trophy hardware. He also shot an even-par on the front and won two holes, Nos. 1 and 7 with birdie, par. After swapping pars on No. 10, Blanchard grabbed his first lead with a birdie on No. 11. Empanger bounced right back with an eagle on the par-5 12th hole, u n d e r c u t t i n g Blanchard’s birdie. Both golfers parred No. 13 and stumbled with bogeys on 14 before Empanger made his move. He won Nos. 15 and 16 with back-toback birdies to go 2-up. On No. 17, Blanchard again found out what had been happening all day – pars are rarely good enough to beat Empanger. The 2009 champ also made par to
seal a 2-1 win. Mattson def. Seashore, 1-up Things were looking pretty good for Gene Seashore. He won Nos. 2, 7 and 9 on the front and yielded just one hole, No. 4, to Mattson. He also won the first two holes on the back nine with consecutive birdies to take a seemingly comfortable 4-hole lead. But you can never count Mattson out. He charged ahead with five straight wins, highlighted by an eagle on No. 12 and a birdie on No. 15. Seashore’s big lead was gone with the tide and he found himself down by one with just two holes left. Mattson didn’t provide much of an opening. He made par on the final two holes to preserve a 1-up victory. Mattson was 3-over par on the front but 3under on the back. Seashore was 1-over the front and 2-over on the back.

MEN from Page 4 match with a par win on No. 10 but Robley birdied both 11 and 12 to steal the lead. Both golfers swapped bogeys and pars on the next two holes. Trailing by one with four holes left, Todora had his work cut out for him but he was up to the challenge. He won No. 15 with birdie to tie the match, reclaimed the lead with a par win on No. 16 and then delivered the winning blow with a par win on No. 17. Constable def. Klein, 4-2 Constable continues to play nearly flawless golf. Through 16 holes yesterday, he was 5-under par. As Geoff
Klein of Mankato found out, it’s tough to compete against that. But Klein was no slouch on the course either. He won No. 1 with birdie and added wins on No. 4 (par) and No. 5 (birdie) to go 3-up. Constable didn’t get flustered, however. He won the next four holes with three straight birdies and a par to steal the lead at the turn. After halving No. 10, Constable padded his advantage with two more birdie wins on Nos. 11 and 12 to go 3up. Both golfers matched pars on the next two holes and traded birdies on No. 15 before Constable sealed a 4-2 win with a par victory on the 16th green.

Willl trophy remain with Freeman family? Tax, Dilley, Hagen also in final four of the Men’s Executive Division The Freeman family still has a shot at winning a 2010 Resorters championship, thanks to Jon’s easy win yesterday. But first he’s got to get by Steve Tax, who defeated Jon’s brother Stefan, the Executive Division’s defending champion, on Thursday. If he does that, another roadblock stands in his way – either David Dilley of Alexandria or Al Hagen, who slipped past Joel Harris yesterday, 1up. The semifinalists will tee it up this morning at 6:54 a.m. from the No. 1 tee. The winners will advance to the championship match that’s set to start at about 1 p.m., also from No. 1. Here’s what happened yesterday: Tax def. Eidsvold, 1-up The match between Steve Tax of Sartell and Alexandria’s Brian Eidsvold was like a heavyweight title fight. Each golfer delivered a flurry of punches, but in the end, Tax was the last man standing. Eidsvold drew first blood with three straight wins on Nos. 3, 4 and 5, thanks to two pars and a birdie. Tax withstood the assault by unleashing a devastating counter attack – five straight par wins starting on No. 6. After a “no decision” on No. 11, Eidsvold got in another jab, a stinging birdie win on No. 12 followed by a par punch on No. 13 that deadlocked the match. Tax fought right back, winning Nos. 14 and 15 with birdie, par to go 2-up. Eidsvold delivered one more blow, a par win on No. 17 to take the match to the final hole. Pars ended the match with Tax getting the decision, 1-up. Freeman def. Adams, 8-7 On Thursday, it took Jon Freeman 21 grueling holes to defeat his opponent, Chad Johnson, a semifinalist last year. Yesterday was a walk in the park. Freeman, the last of three Freeman brothers still in contention, cruised to an 8-7 win over David Adams of Maple Grove. The 47-year-old finance director from Chanhassen will try to cash in his first Executive Division title when he tangles with Tax in today’s semifinals. Last year, Freeman advanced all the

way to the final match where he met up with his brother, Stefan, who came out on top after 19 thrilling holes. Dilley def. O’Connor in 19 holes We could call it a “dilly” of a match but that’s too obvious. Alexandria’s David Dilley had a better description of his clash against Alexandria Golf Club Superintendent Donnacha Steve Tax Jon Freeman Dave Dilley Al Hagen O’Connor: it was like a chess match. “It was seesaw, back and forth the whole way,” Dilley said after the match. “Every time I thought I had him down he made a shot that made me think, how did he do that? Donnacha just didn’t give in.” Even after nine holes, the tight match continued on the back with three straight ties. Dilley finally broke the stalemate by winning No. 13 and adding another win on No. 14 when O’Connor missed a par-saving putt. O’Connor had a chance to make up ground when he hit a 3-wood right down the middle on No. 15 and was positioned well for a birdie but he missed the putt to halve the hole. The golfers tied No. 16, making it do-or-die time for O’Connor, who still trailed by two. Dilley sent his tee shot into the trees on the short 17th and O’Connor won the hole with a gimme birdie. Dilley hit his drive well on No. 18 but it rolled under a pine tree and O’Connor again took advantage to win the hole with par and send the match into overtime. On the first extra hole, Dilley hit a good shot over from the trees to make par and win the match. Hagen def. Harris, 1-up In a tightly played down-to-the-wire duel, Al Hagen of Harrisburg, South Dakota outlasted former Alexandrian Joel Harris of Summit, New Jersey. The match boiled down to nine difference-making holes. On the front nine, Hagen won Nos. 3, 6 and 7, all with pars, while Harris prevailed on Nos. 8 and 9, also with pars. Hagen padded his lead to 2-up with a birdie win on the 10th hole only to drop No. 12 when Harris dropped in a birdie. Hagen rallied with a par win on the next hole but Harris hung tough, winning No. 14 with another birdie. From there, the match turned into a test of wills with neither golfer gaining any ground. They shot nothing but pars on the final four holes, preserving Al Hagen of Harrisburg, South Dakota tried to talk his ball to his desired location Hagen’s 1-up victory. off the 3rd tee yesterday afternoon.

Franklin, Johnson reach Junior 10-12 title match Two Twin Cities area players will vye for the first ever 10-12 crown It will be a Twin Cities area connection in the championship of the Junior 10-12 Division today as medalist Sam Franklin of Maple Grove will take on Lincoln Johnson of Chaska. Franklin, 12-years-old, and Johnson, 10, will hit the 10th tee at 8:30 this morning. Franklin def. Zwilling Sam Franklin of Maple Grove def. Grant Zwilling of Alexandria 1-up. This was Zwilling’s second consecutive hard-fought contest, having won his quarterfinal match 2-1 on
Wednesday. This time, however, the Alexandria native wasn’t so fortunate. Zwilling grabbed the early lead as the two started on the back nine, but beginning on No. 12, Franklin put three of the next four holes in his win column. Zwilling cut that lead by one with a win on No. 16, but neither player could budge the score on the final two holes, leaving Franklin to head to today’s championship match. Johnson def. Dube´ Lincoln Johnson of Chaska handed Logan Dube´ of Hastings a 3-2 loss in the lower bracket. Johnson had earned a 3-1 win in the opening round on Tuesday to reach yesterday’s semifinal.

Bennett, Brandabur advance The 13-15s Division will tee off today at noon Who will be the first Junior 13-15 Division champion – Marshall’s Matthew Bennett or Minnetrista’s Tommy Brandabur? Bennett survived a marathon with his opponent Grady Meyer in 21 holes, while Brandabur advanced with a 4-3 decision over Mitch Freeman of St. Cloud. We’ll find out shortly as Bennett and Brandabur will tee off today at noon on the first tee for the final 18 holes of play. Bennett battles Meyer 21 holes A total of 21 holes were needed before Bennett could edge out his opponent in the upper bracket of the 1315 division yesterday.
Meyer started off with a bang as he birdied the first hole of the day, then took a par win on No. 3. Then it was Bennett’s turn. The Marshall golfer grabbed the ensuing hole on a par win, and erased any deficit with a birdie on the next hole. Not to be outdone, Meyer retaliated, winning on a birdie at No. 7, but Bennett again responded with his own birdie and added a win on No. 9 to go into the turn 1-up. Neither golfer was willing to give as they scorched their way through the back nine with Meyer winning Nos. 11 (par), 14 (birdie) and 16 (par), while Bennett countered with wins on Nos. 12 (birdie) and 13 (par), sending the match to extra hole. The first two extras ended in a deadlock as the duo both notched pars, with Bennett
finally ending it on No. 3 with a par win. Brandabur def. Freeman 4-3 Brandabur found his stride during his match against Freeman yesterday, making a quick comeback with a pair of wins after allowing Freeman to take the first hole on a birdie. The Minnetrista golfer won six of the front nine holes, four on birdies (Nos. 3, 6, 8 and 9), while giving Freeman just one other win, that on the fifth hole. On the back, both players shared the first two holes before Brandabur scored what would be the winning hole with a birdie on No. 12. The two played through three more holes, one par win for Freeman sandwiched between two halved holes, that brought the match to an early end.
Eat. Drink.
Enjoy.

Eidsvold and Mikesh to lock horns in Masters The Masters’ Division championship match will begin today at 12:20 p.m. on the first tee Who will it be? The 69-year-old retired Alexandrian, Tom Eidsvold, who fired a 78 qualifying round (two strokes behind the medalist)? Or 71-year-old George Mikesh of Scottsdale, Arizona, who overcame the pressure to win his first two rounds in extra holes? They’ll tee it up today at approximately 12:20 p.m. to determine who will be the 2010 Resorters Masters’ champion. Neither golfer has won the division before. The last six years the top prize went to Ron Clayton of Sarasota, Florida. (A scheduling conflict prevented Clayton from competing this year.)
Here’s a recap of yesterday’s semifinal rounds: Eidsvold def. Seavall, 3-2 A slow start doomed Steve Seavall of Spicewood, Texas. He was 6-over par on the front nine with no birdies and just four pars – one of them a winner on No. 3. Eidsvold took advantage by wrapping up five wins on the front, Nos. 2, 4, 6, 8 and 9, highlighted by a birdie on the 6th hole. Seavall played a little better after the turn – he won Nos. 10 and 14 with pars – but he had too much ground to make up. Eidsvold won the 11th hole with par and was able to match Seavall’s bogey and par on Nos. 15 and 16 to close out the match, 3-2. Mikesh def. Mohwinkel, 5-4 Mikesh was probably bracing himself for another long day on the course, considering his
first match went 19 holes and his second lasted 20. But this time, playing against Dan Mohwinkel of Annandale, it was all over after just 14 holes. Mikesh grabbed the early lead with a par win on No. 2 and a birdie win on No. 4. Mohwinkel gained ground with a par win on No. 5 only to drop the next hole to Mikesh’s birdie. Mohwinkel retaliated with a birdie of is own on No. 7 but Mikesh closed the front nine with a bang, winning the last two holes with pars to go 3-up at the turn. Mikesh ramped up the pressure with another par win on the 10th hole and padded his lead to 5-up with a par win on the long No. 12. All he had to do from there was match Mohwinkel’s bogey on No. 13 and his par on No. 14 to ice the win.

CHIP SHOTS Being a Scotsman, I am naturally opposed to water in its undiluted state. – Dr. Alistair Mackenzie What’s the point of washing off your ball when teeing off on a water hole? – Bruce Lansky The golfer has more enemies than any other athlete. He has 14 clubs in his bag, all of them different; 18 holes to play, all of them different, every week; and all around him is sand, trees, grass, water, wind and 143 other players. In addition, the game is 50 percent mental, so his biggest enemy is himself. – Dan Jenkins May thy ball lie in green pastures... and not in still waters. – Author unknown The best advice I can give for playing a ball out of water is – don’t. R– Tony Lema
Master’s Division quarterfinalist Dan Mohwinkel of Annandale blasted out of the sand on No. 8 during his match against George Mikesh yesterday. Mikesh was the eventual winner by a 5-4 margin.
I’m gambling that when we get into the next life, Saint Peter will look at us and ask, “Golfer?” And when we nod, he will step aside and say, “Go right in; you’ve suffered enough.” One warning, if you do
go in and the first thing you see is a par 3 surrounded by water, it ain’t heaven. – Jim Murray One thing I’ve learned over time is, if you hit a golf ball into water, it won’t float. – Arnold Palmer A passion, an obsession, a romance, a nice acquaintanceship with trees, sand, and water. – Bob Ryan Putting isn’t golf, greens should be treated almost the same as water hazards: you land on them, then add two strokes to your score. – Chi Chi Rodriguez On the course, what is feared is like a magnet. Water, bunkers, trees, ravines, high grass whatever you fear turns magnetic. – Wiffi Smith I get pissed off. I simply do not understand someone who hits a ball that lands behind a tree and can look at it and say, “Well, that’s golf”. – Simon Hobday There is an old saying: if a man comes home with sand in his cuffs and cockleburs in his pants, don’t ask him what he shot. – Sam Snead

CHIP SHOTS eventually lifted quite some time later, in 1502.
There is no such thing as over spin on a golf ball at the moment of impact. Even when using a putter, the ball leaves the clubface with some backspin. Only when the ball settles on the ground and begins rolling will the backspin reverse and turn into over spin.
Ever wondered where the golfing term “birdie” comes from? It seems we have an American named Ab Smith to thank. While striding around a course in 1899, he played what he described as a “bird of a shot”, which became “birdie” over time. (“Bird” was 19th American slang for anything really, really good. Kind of like “cool” is for us.) Dormie, the golf jargon word referring to a player decisively leading a game, comes from “dormir”, a word of shared French and Latin origin which means “to sleep”. In other words, the playerʼs so far in front he can afford to sleep.
The driver swing speed of an average lady golfer is 62mph; 96mph for an average LPGA professional; 84mph for an average male golfer; 108mph for an average PGA Tour player; 130mph for Tiger Woods; 148-152mph for a national long drive champion. The next time you hear someone say professional golfers are not athletes, clue them in on this. 1 mph of swing speed increase = 1.5mph of ball velocity increase = 3 yards of carry distance increase.
There are 336 dimples on a regulation golf ball.
Golf buffs may cry “Sacrilege!”, but thereʼs an alternative version of the game in existence. Invented in 1989, Golfcross uses big suspended nets instead of holes, and the balls are oval – like golf balls crossed with eggs. There are dedicated courses from New Zealand to the UK, if youʼre feeling adventurous.
The longest putt in history was measured at 140 feet and 2 3/4 inches on the 18th hole at St. Andrewʼs golf course. It was shot by Bob Cook on October 1, 1976. There are approximately 11,000 golf courses in North America.
Thereʼs a long-standing myth that the word “golf” is an acronym of Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden. Which is amusing, but unfortunately complete rubbish. The word actually stems from original 15th Century spellings that included “gouf”, “goulf”, “goiff” and “gouff” (indecisive lot, 15th Century Scots).
Former Resorters Women’s champion Betsy Aldrich sent her putt toward the hole on the 1st green yesterday afternoon.
There are more than 50 million golfers in the world. Americans spend more than $600 million on golf balls every year. The chances of making two holes-inone in a round of golf are one in 67 million.
Golf was actually outlawed in Scotland in 1457. James II was the killjoy behind the ban – he was preparing for an English invasion and wanted his citizens to concentrate on useful hobbies like archery. The ban was

BANANA BALL: A bad slice, so called because the flight of the ball resembles the shape of a banana. BARBER: A player who talks to the point of annoyance. BISQUE: A handicap stroke given to one opponent that may be used on any hole. CROSS-BUNKER: A narrow bunker that crosses a hole at a right angle to the player’s line of flight to the green. DORMIE: A situation in match play when a player or a side is ahead by the amount of holes remaining to be played. In such a case, the trailing player or side must win the remaining holes to come out even. EAGLE: A score of two under par for a single hole. FOOZLE: A bad shot. Also called a dub. FRIED EGG: A ball that is buried in sand. Also called a plugged lie. FROG HAIR: The short grass that borders the putting green. GIMMEE: Baby talk for “give me,” a putt of
two feet or less that a friendly opponent declares does not have to be holed out. GOBBLE: A putt that unexpectedly lands in the hole. IN THE LEATHER: A putt closer to the hole than the distance between a putter’s head and its grip. In friendly matches, an opponent may declare such a putt a gimmee. MULLIGAN: A second shot off the tee, often permitted once in a casual round. Also known as a Shapiro. QUAIL HIGH: A long shot that has a low trajectory. RABBIT: A topped shot that bounces erratically. Also called a scooter. RAINMAKER: A ball hit underneath that goes straight up into the air. RUB OF THE GREEN: When a ball in motion is stopped or deflected by an outside agency. Another way of saying “tough luck.” SCLAFFING: Hitting the ground behind the ball, causing an embarrassing divot.
Alexandria’s Donnacha O’Connor watched his ball off the 3rd tee box during yesterday’s match versus fellow Alexandrian Dave Dilley.

The older you get the stronger the wind gets...and it’s always in your face. – Jack Nicklaus A good player prays for wind every day, but not too earnestly. – John L. Low If the wind is in your face, you swing too hard just to get the ball through it; if the wind is at your back, you swing too hard just to see how far you can get the ball to go. – Henry Beard If the purpose of golf is purgatorial, nothing more needs to be said. But if the purpose is to entertain as well as instruct, then let us pause in the mad rush for hazards, more hazards and still more and fiercer hazards. – William Hemingway (in 1909)
I’ve lost balls in every hazard and on every course I’ve tried. But when I lose a ball in the ball washer, it’s time to take stock. – Milton Gross Once when I was golfing in Georgia, I hooked the ball into the swamp. I went in after it and found an alligator wearing a shirt with a picture of a little golfer on it. – Buddy Hackett You can, legally, possibly hit and kill a fellow golfer with a ball, and there will not be a lot of trouble because the other golfers will refuse to stop and be witnesses because they will want to keep playing. – Dave Barry
