If cold weather speed is more your style, there are several different local events that feature snowmobile racing at its finest, be it vintage sleds or today’s high-speed machines.
The local calendar is always full of classes, workshops and seminars on any subject, from learning to paint or discovering the secrets of perfect grilling to honing your leadership skills or saving for retirement.
Sign up for softball
94
Softball tournaments are a great way to enjoy a weekend throughout the summer. Whether you want to play or watch, there are plenty of opportunities to do both in Douglas County for men, women and co-ed!
Enjoy a scenic motorcycle ride
95
Stop at a local motorcycle dealer to tune up or get your accessories, and head out for a ride around the lakes. With about 300 lakes in Douglas County, there are plenty of scenic routes to enjoy.
Check out the newest park
96
Located on the north side of Lake Brophy is the newest addition to the county’s park system. It includes a parking area, portable restroom, dock and fire ring as well as trails for walking, biking or running.
Visit Our Lady of the Hills
97
Erected by a local resident in response to answered prayers for healing, the cement and steel shrine of the Virgin Mary is 22 feet tall and weighs 4,500 pounds. Take a scenic drive along the country roads near Millerville to check it out.
Hit a local fundraiser
98
Head out to a local fundraiser. Churches, youth groups, scouts and friends to those in need sponsor fundraisers throughout the year. Spaghetti dinners, waffle breakfasts, craft sales, silent auctions and bake sales are great places to meet people, visit and do some good. 101 Things Things to Do • 2017 23
