WEDDING GOWN styles for 2020 With all the information available to brides from magazines and social media, it’s easy to be overwhelmed when it comes to making all those decisions for your big day. One of those will be selecting your gown. First and foremost – this is a very personal decision, so you need to look at styles that are uniquely you. Here are a few of the most popular trends on the runways for 2019 to give you some ideas.
tiered skirts
Layered skirts can add texture and movement to your wedding gown without all the weight, and can alleviate the need for a full skirt or long train.
ruffles
Frilly and very feminine, ruffled skirts are feminine and romantic. They can be found on just about any style gown and add dimension.
one shoulder
Sophisticated one shoulder neckline gowns are perfect for nearly every fabric from satiin to tulle. And one long sleeve gives an edgy feel.
sparkles
Vesatile enough for most wedding styles, a ball gown is perfect in satin or chiffon.
floral print
Believe it or not, floral print is big news on the fashion runways. The florals can be tone-on-tone, 3-D embroideries or in burst of color.
puffy sleeves
Who would have thought that the puffy sleeve would make a return? An update of the 1980s version, these gowns have off-the-shoulder necklines and limits the volume of the pouf. Paired with a slim silhouette and siimple accessories, the puffy sleeve is tasteful and romantic.
bridal suit
An alternative to a dress, the bridal suit features lace embellishments, floral details and metallic beading, giving the white suits and jumpsuits a modern look.
blush gowns
Blush pink gowns have always been around, but this year they come to the forefront with layers of ruffled tulle or accented with feathers.
ballet inspired
Glittering sequins, metallic embellishments and tonal beading are all at the height of fashion, and are especially elegant for an evening wedding.
Wedding gowns with full, tutu-inspired skirts and leotard underlays make you think ballerina.
ball gown
Lower waistlines wrapped in tulle or paired with sheer skirts give a new twist to an old favorite.
Bring on Cinderella and royal weddings with a ballgown wedding dress.

A Wedding Dress
you can dance in
They may look striking, but many wedding gown styles restrict your movements, making it hard to dance. Here are some things to consider if you’re shopping for a wedding dress you can move freely in. •Light fabric. A flowy dress made of a lightweight fabric is sure to be comfortable enough to dance in. •Separates. Choose an elegant halter top or corset and select two different
bottoms. Wear a long tulle skirt to imitate the look of a ball gown for the ceremony and swap it out for a shorter style for the reception. •Tea length. There’s no rule that says a wedding gown must be long. Choose one that ends just below your knees for a vintage style you can move in. •Reception dress. Choose a second dress that’s easier to dance in for the reception. This is a great option for
brides who don’t want to have to choose between two looks. If you absolutely love a ballgown or a mermaid-style dress, choose one that can be modified throughout the day. Bustling a long train or removing a layer of tulle may be all you need to dance the night away.
Tips for choosing the perfect wedding lingerie Most people won’t see it, but wearing the right lingerie is imperative to looking your best on your wedding day. Here are some tips to help you find the perfect undergarments. •Consider the gown. Make sure the undergarments you wear are discreet enough that they won’t be seen. Similarly, if the dress is made of a sheer or silky material, you may want to choose a slip or body suit to be sure everything is smooth and invisible. •Think about color. White lingerie may be traditional but could be noticeable under a white dress. Instead, wear lingerie that matches your skin tone.
•Make sure it fits perfectly. There’s nothing worse than undergarments that don’t fit well. Finding the exact right size will ensure that you’re comfortable throughout the day. •Change for the evening. If your gown calls for something more demure, why not change into a spicier getup for your wedding night? A lacy baby-doll or a risqué black teddy are sure to drive your new spouse wild. No matter what style of lingerie you decide to wear on your wedding day, be sure to bring it with you to your dress fitting. This will allow you to make certain it works well with your gown.

How to perfect your
Wedding Day Makeup
All eyes are on the bride on her wedding day, and all cameras are too. Here are some makeup tips to ensure you look your best.
Be yourself
Your wedding isn’t the right time to try out a new look. Instead, strive for a slightly enhanced version of the makeup you normally wear. For some, this may be
dark eyeliner and a bold lip and for others, it may be a natural but radiant look.
Do a test run
Try out your wedding day makeup in advance. If you’re doing it yourself, run through applying it a few times. If you’re hiring a makeup artist, schedule an appointment a few weeks before the big day. Doing a test run will ensure you’re happy with the results.
Use the right products
Even if you’re not usually the emotional type, plan for tears on your wedding day. Opt for waterproof mascara, quality liquid foundation and lipstick that won’t smudge. Don’t forget to pack a kit that includes concealer, blotting papers and your lipstick for touch ups throughout the day.
How to achieve a classic, natural look If you’re going for a classic look, here are some tips on how to create a beautiful, but still natural look.
rosy hues
Hues from burgundy to soft pink, the rosy colors are perfect and complement every face. Try using a soft color on cheekbones, but add in classic ruby red lips.
dewy skin
Avoid matte foundation on their special day and instead will be opting for more luminous skin and an all-over glow.
bold eyebrows
Bold brows have been in style for a few years and still looks good today. Striking shaped brows will give your face an unforgettable look. 8 I Do! Bridal Guide Winter 2020
bandeau hairpieces/ headbands
Accessorizing hair with bandeaus and headbands that glitter give the bride a Meghan Markle-inspired look. Not as strong a statement as a tiara, but still brings to mind a regal feel.
relaxed hair
Softly gathered hair or half-upsweeps with a few loosely hanging tendrils give brides a relaxed, no-care look. Intentionally messy hairstyles give you an effortless look.
waves/low bun
Big waves and curls will give you a more glamorous look for your wedding, while the low bun paired with a statement necklace will show off the neckline of your gown.

LOVE on the LAKE
10 I Do! Bridal Guide Winter 2020

EMILY JUETTNER August 2019 bride

lthough Emily Bush and Jake Juettner were classmates at Jefferson High School in Alexandria, it wasn’t until they reconnected in college that they began to grow closer. “Our friend groups crossed paths more in college where we became better friends, even though Jake was at North Dakota State University (NDSU) and I was at the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities,” said Emily. ‘We went to We Fest multiple times, spent a lot of days on the lake together and a lot of nights at Bug-ABoo and Zorbaz until we finally decided to make it official. We definitely started as friends long before it grew into something more.” It remained a long distance relationship for nearly three years while Emily lived and worked in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area and the two spent many weekends traveling to see each other. After she decided to make the move back home to Alexandria, “we adjusted to our new normal of seeing each other every day and learning more quirks about each other. “No matter what we were doing, we always had fun doing it and it was all worth it!” It was following church on Christmas Day of 2018 that the couple got engaged. “It was very unexpected in that moment,” said Emily of Jake’s proposal in the kitchen of their new house, “but anyone who knows us, knows I had been anticipating it for a LONG time!” The two had decided to forgo gifts that Christmas, “but it was the best gift I could’ve gotten!” she said. “It was fun having our families in town for Christmas that day and getting to celebrate with them, too.” Emily and Jake were married in August of 2019, spending about eight months planning the event.
“Since I had been waiting so long for a proposal, I honestly had a pretty good idea of where and what I wanted the day to look like,” the bride said with a smile. “We had a big guest list, so managing that and ensuring everyone would fit wherever we were was the toughest part for us – and of course, keeping everything in our budget. Since the lake has always been the couple’s favorite place to spend time, it was natural for the wedding to be outdoors. “I also dreamed of having the wedding party arrive by boat to our reception, Emily explained, “so having our ceremony at Mount Carmel and the reception at Arrowwood [Resort and Conference Center] was the perfect fit. Jake grew up living on Lake Carlos and Emily on Lake Le Homme Dieu, making that part of the area special to them. “Mount Carmel gave us the perfect backdrop of Lake Carlos with the big white cross by the lake,” she said of their ceremony venue, “and we had a blast boating over to the reception at Arrowwood by pontoon with our whole wedding party. “We thank God for giving us good weather to make it all possible!” The couple enlisted the services of Creations of Alexandria for all their décor and flowers, and they “absolutely blew it out of the park and helped bring my whole vision to life even better than I ever expected. “They helped us with everything from our groom’s dinner to the ceremony and reception,” added Emily. “From a beautiful flower arrangement on the cross at Mount Carmel to the fairytale they created inside the ballroom at Arrowwood. be smart about beauty preparation
A
ll eyes are on the bride and groom on their wedding day. Feeling beautiful and dapper can boost a couple’s confidence and ensure they look back on their wedding photographs and videos with pride. Certain beauty basics and makeup and hair strategies can help any bride look spectacular on her wedding day. The following are some do’s and don’ts of wedding day beauty preparations.
DO employ the services of a professional hairstylist and makeup artist. Professionals have the experience and tools of the trade to help you to look your best. From contouring to make your face seem slimmer to enlarging the appearance of small eyes, some tricks of the trade are best left to the pros. DON’T forget to schedule a trial run. Make this appointment several months before the wedding day so you have ample time to work with your stylists and experiment with colors and hair arrangements to fit your personality and the style of your gown. Take plenty of pictures and notes so you will remember what needs to be on hand for the wedding day. DO allot enough time for the wedding day beauty appointment. If you will be going to a salon, block out two or more slots instead of one. This way the stylist does not overbook and will not feel rushed. Many brides opt to have stylists come to their homes. There may be an extra charge for this service, but it may be well worth the cost. DON’T wear too much under-eye concealer or one that
is too light of a shade. This can draw more attention to problem areas than remedy them.
DO wear a little extra makeup than you are accustomed to wearing because it will show up better in photos. However, do not wear so much that you look clownish. A makeup artist can help you achieve the right balance. 12 I Do! Bridal Guide Winter 2020
DON’T make any drastic changes to your appearance right before the wedding. This includes changing your hair color or texture, extreme tanning, using colored contact lenses, or chopping off all of your hair. It’s better to wait until after the wedding to change your style. DO bring a veil, headpiece, hair extensions, and any other accessories to your hair consult. This enables the stylist to practice working with these items. DON’T tweeze or wax brows too close to the start of the ceremony. Redness and swelling are common side effects of tweezing and waxing, and they can be difficult to mask with makeup. Instead, take care of hair removal a day or two prior to the wedding. DO exfoliate your skin prior to the wedding. This doesn’t necessarily mean you should endure a harsh fruit acid peel or another procedure. You can exfoliate with a gentle washing of your skin with a nubby washcloth to remove any dryness and errant flakes. Moisturize well to ensure a smooth palette for makeup application. DON’T have bridesmaids wear makeup that is bolder than yours, especially red lips. No one should upstage the bride. DO experiment with any products you haven’t used before to test for allergic reactions and see how well they wear. DON’T forget that men need a little help as well. Exfoliation and moisturization can help dry skin. Guys should use a new razor and plenty of cream before shaving to avoid irritation. A dusting of finishing powder can banish shiny noses and foreheads for photo-ready faces. Chances are more photographs will be taken of a newlywed couple than at any other moment in their lives. Certain beauty do’s and don’ts should be followed so couples put their best faces forward.

Choosing the perfect When it comes to accessories that complement your wedding dress, your shoes are arguably the most important. You want your footwear to both reflect your personal style and be comfortable enough to wear as you dance the night away. Choose your dress first. You’ll want to match the style of shoes to your dress. Make a statement. Shoes are a great way to add a pop of color to your wedding attire.
wedding shoes
Make sure they fit. The best time to shop for shoes is in the late afternoon. If they’re comfortable after a day of work, they’ll fit perfectly on your wedding day. Don’t experiment with high heels. If you’re not used to wearing heels, don’t attempt to wear them at your wedding. There are many flat and wedge styles that make beautiful – and comfortable – bridal shoes.
Three tips for choosing the perfect
Wedding jewelry Are you wondering what kind of jewelry to wear on your wedding day? Here are three tips to help you match your accessories to your wedding attire. Be yourself. If you never wear jewelry in your day-to-day life, you shouldn’t be dripping in jewels on your wedding day. However, if you love the way you look in big chunky earrings or long necklaces, go for it. Match the metal to the dress. Pure white dresses look best with silver jewelry, while ivory or champagne fabrics pair well with gold. If you’ve 14 I Do! Bridal Guide Winter 2020
chosen to wear a blush-hued gown, opt for rose gold. Consider the neckline. Highnecked or halter dresses look best with statement earrings and a simple bracelet. A V-neck is practically begging for a beautiful necklace to fill the space. And a sweetheart or strapless gown goes with anything, from a choker to a pendant or even just the right earrings. On your wedding day, less is more. Your radiant face, your beautiful gown and your new wedding ring won’t need much embellishing.
Bring them to your dress fitting. If your dress is long, it’ll need to be adjusted to the height of your shoes. Break them in. Wear your shoes around the house to avoid any nasty surprises on the day of your wedding. If they’re tight or uncomfortable, bring them to a shoemaker to stretch them out a bit. Lastly, don’t forget to book a pedicure before your wedding. Nothing looks better in stunning shoes than prettily pampered feet.

create your own wedding website Wedding invitations traditionally include a few different cards and a whole lot of information. If you’re planning a wedding and want to cut down on the amount of paper you send, a wedding website is the perfect way to communicate with your guests. What needs to be on the invitation. All basic information about your wedding needs to be on the invitation. This includes the full names of the bride and groom to be, the location of the wedding and the date and time it’ll take place. Traditionally, your parent’s names would also be included, but if you’re paying for your own wedding, you can take or leave this tradition. Include the URL to your wedding website so people know how to access it. RSVP cards. Your guests need a way to tell you whether or not they can make it to your wedding. You can include this with your invitation, or have people respond on
your website. Both options are acceptable, but keep in mind that some of your older guests may not understand the lack of a response card. What to put on your wedding website. Use the website to let your guests know about accommodations, the gift registry and directions to the venue. You can also include some photos of the two of you, introduce guests to your wedding party or add local fun facts for people from out of town. Building a wedding website is easy and often times free. Use one of the following host sites: •withjoy.com •minted.com •weddingwire.com •theknot.com •zola.com •appycouple.com
Alternatively, you can build your wedding website using Wordpress.com; they even offer a free wedding theme.

WEDDING INVITATION ESSENTIALS Here’s a list of things you’ll need to include in your wedding invitations: The save-the-date card This optional piece to the invitation should be sent out 6-8 months before the event. It’s especially important for destination or multi-day weddings and include the following: •The names of the bride and groom •The date of the event •The city in which the wedding will take place
THE INVITATION CARD
The invitations should be sent out 6-8 weeks before the wedding and should contain: •The date and time of the wedding •The location and schedule of the reception •Driving instructions •The wedding’s theme, if applicable •An indication of whether or not children are welcome •Contact info (email address, website, phone number)
THE RSVP CARD
It’s crucial to include an RSVP card with your wedding invitations so that invitees can confirm whether or not they’re able to attend the event as well as indicate if someone will be accompanying them. Be sure to provide a self-addressed stamped envelope.
Will you get married in a
necktie
or a
bowtie?
You popped the question, got a yes, and now you’re planning every detail of your wedding day. Future husband – it’s time to think about what you’ll be wearing when you exchange your vows! The dilemma is quite real: will you choose a necktie or a bowtie to finish off your look? Here are some thoughts to help you make this important decision.
The bowtie: a classic. You can’t go wrong with the traditional bowtie. Match it with your tuxedo for a sophisticated look, or dare to be different with a velvet, knit or wooden bowtie that matches your wedding’s color scheme. Show stopping looks guaranteed in any case. The tie: a more relaxed option. Thinking of getting married in a suit and tie? Go for it! The good old necktie has become a popular option for the modern groom. From the distinguished traditional version to more avant-garde options, ties are available in endless patterns, colors and textures. You’re sure to find one that fits your personal style to a T. Have you decided yet? If you’re still on the fence, ask a stylist or knowledgeable salesperson for advice.

Fresh ideas for decorating tables The centerpieces at your wedding are sure to be the decor that your guests notice the most. Here are four fresh ideas for centerpieces that will make a statement.
Potted Plants
A welcome change from cut flowers, potted plants can be taken home by guests and enjoyed for years to come. Anything goes, from cute succulents and cactuses to tall orchids and even herbs or flowers that can be transplanted outdoors.
Terrariums or lanterns
A geometric glass vase or container will complement almost any type of wedding esthetic. Fill it with moss and cut flowers for a romantic look or sand and seashells for a beachy vibe. Or, substitute the vase with an old lantern if you want to create a more rustic look.
Candles
A wedding is the perfect time to indulge in a romantic, candlelit dinner. Tall tapers in a variety of different candleholders are ideal. Or, use candles of varying heights to add visual interest.
Suspensions
If the ceiling and venue allow for it, consider hanging your centerpieces from above. Flower arrangements, candles and other items can be hung to add ambiance to the table and will dramatically impact the look of the room as a whole. No matter what type of centerpiece you choose, make sure it’s not so tall or wide that it gets in the way of conversation around the table.
Food and drink stations for your wedding reception Are you looking for a way to make your wedding a little different? Any of these fun food or drink stations are sure to get your guests talking.
Snacks
Instead of passed hors d’oeuvres, create a fun snack bar. Pickles, charcuterie or even popcorn with various toppings are all great ideas for a laid back crowd. For
a more luxurious touch, try an oyster bar or sushi station.
Dessert
Forgo the traditional wedding cake and offer your guests their choice of dessert. From donuts and pies to cupcakes and your favorite childhood cereals, anything goes. For summer weddings, cool down with ice cream, gourmet ice pops or sundaes.
Late night eats
After several hours of dancing and drinking, your guests will be ready for a late night snack. Think French fries with different dipping sauces, grilled cheese sandwiches or even a make-your-owntaco bar. 18 I Do! Bridal Guide Winter 2020
Drinks
While many weddings have a cocktail bar, you can also offer fresh juice, your favorite craft sodas or beers from nearby microbreweries. Or, a coffee bar complete with flavored syrups is a great way to encourage the party to keep going all night. Remember to tailor the food or drink station to your wedding and location. This will personalize the experience and make it more memorable. Some food bars can even do double duty as your wedding favors if you provide cute boxes or jars alongside your pickles, cookies, candy or anything else that’s easy to transport.

Planning your perfect What constitutes the perfect wedding? It’s one that you and your fiancé plan that is personal for you both. It has to reflect who you are as individuals and as a couple. Plan a day that is fun and memorable by adding in your own touches, whether it is in the ceremony itself, the decorations, the songs you play or the speeches you make. Take the time as a future bride and groom to plan out what is important. First of all, plan a budget of what you and family are willing to spend. These are some helpful hints on how to start your process:
1 2
Pick out your date, possibly a date special to you both, but you may have to be flexible as your venues may not be available.
Talk about your wedding party and who will stand up for you. Keep in mind, it is more important to have the people who have been with you all along and that you feel will be with you long into the future rather than a casual acquaintance. It is always an expense for your family and friends to be in a wedding, so keep that in mind when you are choosing and do not feel bad if someone cannot accept your invitation.
3
Decide on a venue (place to have your ceremony and reception.) Call and schedule times to visit various places, let them know what you are looking for and see what they have to offer. Keep in mind some venues may be less expensive than others but you want to look at what is offered at each place to understand the value. You might be overwhelmed and not think of asking about simple things like: “Do you provide 24 I Do! Bridal Guide Winter 2020
Wedding?
chairs?” or “Does this include table linens?” Take time to ask a lot of questions so there are no surprises the week of!
4
Start shopping for your wedding gown and bridesmaids dresses at least 6-12 months in advance. Schedule appointments for yourself and a small group of those closest to you. A smaller group is always better to avoid unwanted/unwarranted opinions. Shopping for your wedding gown is a very personal time and should be a fun and memorable experience! When you are shopping at your local bridal salon for your gown, keep these tips in mind: Be open and honest with your consultant as to what your dream gown is and what price you are willing to pay for it. Bridal salons have a great selection and always offer gowns for all budgets as long as you tell them in advance. It makes it easier for you and them to provide you with what you are wanting if you are honest. When you are trying on those gorgeous gowns, think about how you feel when you are in them. “Is this dress something I can see myself walking down the aisle in?” “Is this dress comfortable for the whole day?” “Is this dress what I have envisioned me wearing for my special day?” Your bridal salon consultant can help you find gowns you are interested in along with gowns they may feel would be great. Follow their lead. They do this job every day and the best dress may be one you never thought of trying on. Enjoy the process! When it comes to bridesmaids’ dresses, remember – it is your wedding and your girls will ALL look gorgeous when the day comes. Go with what colors and styles you as a bride want; after all, it is your
day! Your local bridal salons can assist you in choosing what styles, colors and fits work best. Working with a bridal salon ensures that you will have a perfect fit and will always have someone standing by their product to assist you in the event of a problem; something you will not find by ordering online. The average price for a bridesmaids dress is $99-$150 at a bridal salon, so let them alleviate any headaches with their expertise and professional service. You will be happier in the long run if you have a store on your side!
5
Select all of your wedding vendors at least 6 months in advance to ensure they are available for your date you have chosen. The list will seem long so it is good to get it started sooner rather than later. Here’s what you’ll need: venue/ church, food/beverage/caterer, music/ DJ, photographer/videographer, flowers/ decorations, hair/makeup, dresses/ attire, suits/tuxedos, rentals (tents, tables, chairs, linens, décor), rehearsal dinner location/menu, invitations, anything else that is special for the two of you
6
Last, but not least! Remember to enjoy every minute of the planning process and the event itself! The days leading up to the wedding can be stressful, but don’t let it be! The time goes by incredibly fast and you do not want to regret missing out on all of the fun and memorable moments of your special day! The memories are for you to treasure and not to worry about anyone or anybody else. Congratulations and best wishes always for the newly engaged! Jackie J’s Bridal and Formal Wear

branding These days, a wedding makes use of so much more than just a basic invitation. Invitation suites, which include the invitation, reception card, response card, directions, accommodations card and weekend itinerary, have become very popular along with save the date cards. In addition, wedding event branding pieces, such as signage, menus and napkins, have become part of the repertoire. This year, features such as geometric cutouts, color-blocking, wax seals, custom artwork and watercolors, will be found on all paper products used for weddings. Brides have turned to Pinterest and Instagram for inspiration or everything from invitations, menus and custom monograms to cakes, allowing couples to customize their wedding brand. Welcome baskets or gift boxes for guests, particularly for destination weddings or events where the majority of guests had to travel far, are being personalized with itineraries, maps, local treats and small gifts tailored to fit with the couples’ brand.

Easy but awesome
Photo booth ideas Are you planning to set up a photo booth at your wedding? If you do, your guests will love hamming it up in front of the camera, and you’ll wind up with a slew of fun, candid mementos. Here are some backdrop ideas for a photo booth you’ll love. Sequins. For an old Hollywood feel, choose white, silver or gold. Or put a modern spin on it and choose reversible sequins that your guests can play with to change the look.
Wood. A wall of wood planks decorated with ivy and twinkle lights will make your guests feel like they’re hanging out on your back porch. This backdrop is well-suited to a rustic or country themed wedding. Don’t forget to include props to take photos with. Frames, hats and mustaches on sticks are classic, as are comic bookstyle word bubbles with fun messages on them.
Flowers. A wall of flowers is the perfect romantic backdrop. Match the blooms to your wedding colors or opt for white or red roses. Alternatively, create an ombre effect from light to dark using a variety of flowers in an array of hues. Balloons. The trick to nailing a balloon backdrop is to use balloons in various sizes and shapes. Choose pastel tones for a soft look or go for bright colors for a more whimsical touch.

The benefits of using
local vendors Local vendors are a smart choice when planning your wedding ceremony and reception. Once you make the decision on where you will hold your wedding, you can begin to look at local vendors. Being familiar with the area, local vendors will be able to handle the tasks involved with the wedding without needing directions. Wedding photographers, for instance, will know the best places to stage photos, while other vendors most likely have preexisting relationships with representatives of venues, keeping your wedding day less stressful. Shopping local also ensures more personalized service, as well as more individualized attention, than you might find with larger retailers. Keeping your wedding local allows your vendors to meet with you more frequently to make sure that your wedding is the way you want it to be. It also makes dropping off deposits, attending meetings, and making fitting appointments easier.

Signature Sippers for your winter wedding
If you’re planning a fall or winter wedding, you know the weather will be cold, so why not warm your guests by putting one of these winter signature cocktails on the menu. Hot or cold, these drinks will take advantage of seasonal ingredients.
Hot chocolate/ COFFEE station
Set up a station for your guests to enjoy a hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate spiked with their choice of Baileys, whiskey, Amaretto, Frangelico, coconut rum, coffee liqueur, creme de menthe or any of the other wonderful flavors available. You could add in homemade flavored marshmallows for the hot chocolate as well as whipped cream for any of the drinks. For a unique conbination, how about adding a little bourbon and Frangelico to your hot chocolate, then topping it with toasted, chopped hazelnuts and a crisp slice of bacon?

Color pairings for
fall or winter wedding
When it comes to your wedding, your color palette is one of the foundations that you build on for your special day. Here are a few of the color combinations for fall highlighted by colorsbridesmaid. com to inspire you.
navy & yellow
This is a perfect color combination for a rustic fall wedding. The bright yellow contrasts perfectly with the dark blue. Think barn wedding, with sunflowers as the focal point of bouquets and navy bridesmaid dresses. Your groom and groomsmen could be dressed in soft grey tuxedoes or suits, with ties and/or vests in navy.
purple & orange
Striking in its contrast, the combination of purple and orange stands out for fall.
Purple bridesmaid dresses paired with orange, dark purple and lavender bouquets will pop when standing alongside groomsmen in black or dark gray tuxes with deep purple ties. The colors also lend themselves to wonderful reception decor when added to greenery.
burgundy & black
Deep and rich, burgundy and black are perfect for a fall or winter wedding. Black dresses, black tuxedoes together with deep burgundy and white bouquets and floral arrangements lends a special dramatic touch to your special day.
burnt orange & green
Another spectacular combo for a fall wedding is burnt orange and green – both colors reminiscent of autumn. You could mix up bridesmaid dresses with some of each color, or use the wonderful orange accents in your bouquets. You can even add those colors to your cake or invitations.
lilac & dark red
The delicateness of soft lilac and the deep velvety look of dark red will stand out at a fall wedding. With your bridesmaids wearing lilac dresses and carrying dark red bouquets, and groomsmen in black or dark grey tuxes with lilac ties and boutonnieres, photos of your day will be spectacular. Incorporate your colors into the design of your invitations as well as the cake and your floral centerpieces.
purple & gold
30 I Do! Bridal Guide Winter 2020
The color of royalty, purple is a foundation color for every season, but especially fall. Pairing it with gold will give your wedding sparkle, and you can offset the colors with grey suits for some depth. Add in gold table settings to bring it all together.
How to feature
Bright Colors in your wedding
An increasing number of brides and grooms are incorporating bright colors into their wedding outfits and decor. Here’s how to do the same.
Choose the right color
While red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet look great on a rainbow, it may be overwhelming to use them all at your wedding. Instead, choose only one
or two of your favourite colors. Or, choose colors based on the meaning behind them and the feelings they evoke. For example, green is the color of renewal and balance, while blue calls to mind feelings of serenity and peace.
Use color judiciously
Incorporating colors into your wedding doesn’t mean everything should be bright
How to dress your
Whether you have three bridesmaids or 13, you’ll need to decide what you want them to wear. Here are some options.
Same color, same dress
For a classic and cohesive look, ask your bridesmaids to wear matching dresses that correspond to your wedding decor. This option is best when the girls in the group have similar body shapes and skin tones.
and bold. Instead, favour neutrals and use your chosen hue as an accent here and there. The bride’s bouquet, bridesmaids’ dresses, centerpieces and the groom and groomsmen’s ties are perfect places to inject a vibrant shade. For a look that’s rich and voluptuous, be sure to use different shades and textures of your chosen color.
Bridesmaids
Different color, same dress
For a multicolored aesthetic, choose a style of dress and let your bridesmaids pick the hue they wear. If you prefer a more subtle approach, ask them to wear different shades of the same color.
Same color, different dress
maintaining a cohesive look. You can even opt for convertible dresses. These can be worn as many as 20 different ways, so your girls will have no problem finding a look that suits them. Ultimately, you don’t have to follow any rules when choosing your bridesmaids’ dresses. The most important thing is that the women who matter most to you will be there with you on your big day.
This is a great way to show off your bridesmaids’ personalities while still

Lois and Keith are absolute magic with their creativity and ability to completely make your vision and Pinterest board a reality.” The two decided on a traditional Lutheran ceremony for their wedding, and relied on Pastor Hans Dahl and Sandy Buckner from Calvary Lutheran Church to aid them with their wishes. “Being involved at Calvary was a huge part of my life growing up,” Emily said, “so it was important to me that the church was involved, even though we did not have the ceremony at the actual church.” “We wrote notes to each other that we read before our first look that were more personal and private and a very memorable part of our day,” added the bride. The message delivered by Pastor Dahl was crafted with them in mind, “which made the ceremony that much more special, as well.” Tradition played a key role in their ceremony as they chose 1 Corinthians 13 as their main reading and had it read by Jake’s sister Jaimie Stevenson, making it even more meaningful. “We have always thought [it] was the best description of what love really is,” said Emily. One of Emily’s favorite parts of the ceremony was the music the couple had chosen, adding a unique touch as Blonde and the Bohunk performed all pieces acoustically. “They did a beautiful job,” she said. “We did not choose traditional wedding hymns, but, instead, some of the music we listen to every day, which was more meaningful to us. “We are both big country music fans, so our music included songs by Garth Brooks (The Dance), Eric Church (Like Jesus Does), Dan and Shay (Speechless), Florida Georgia LIne (H.O.L.Y.) and Luke Combs and Brooks and Dunn (Brand New Man).” Jake can recall the first time seeing Emily in her dress as one of his favorite

memories. “She was so gorgeous at that first look; it is a moment I know I won’t forget. Just seeing her that first time really made the stress of the day go away and helped me know that we were meant to be.” He didn’t go into details about the build up to the first look, “but it did include me getting locked in a room by myself for half an hour, waiting for someone to tell me I could come out. They didn’t want me to see her too early.” A touching moment for both came with the exchange of rings. “Jake’s ring was his Grandpa Jack Juettner’s ring,” said Emily. “He passed away last year, so it was so special.” The two were surprised with a big balloon release after being announced as Mr. and Mrs., “which was the perfect ending to one of the biggest moments of our lives!” When asked to select the best memory of her ceremony, Emily struggled to select just one.
“I remember peeking out the window as all of our guests were starting to arrive, and that was a really big moment for me personally. “Seeing everyone we love in one place together and knowing they were all there for us was very overwhelming and humbling,” she added. “We are so lucky to have the best support system through all our friends and family, and seeing everyone together made me realize even more how lucky we are. “Having my dad walk me down the aisle and having that special moment with him was also something I will never forget. “I know some brides get robbed of this moment and may not be as lucky to have their dad physically with them on their wedding day,” Emily said, “and I didn’t take that for granted.” It was seeing Jake at the end of the aisle waiting for her calmed all of Emily’s nerves, making her realize how ready she was, “and was a moment of pure happi-
ness and excitement to finally get a ring on his finger, too!” Emily’s dream of boating across the lake with her wedding party became a reality and they were able to have some fun with their favorite people before arriving at the reception. The boat ride was a highlight for Jake as well. “It was hard to imagine this working out from the get go, but everything fell in to place with the weather, boats and drivers. It was a really fun time.” The couple received a special welcome when they reached the shore as they were showered with confetti while racing through a corridor lined by their guests. “It made me realize how many people were there for us that day,” said Emily. The two opted for a more formal style reception that included big chandeliers and drapery hanging from the ceiling, as well as uplighting around the entire room. The beautiful table linens and centerpieces topped off the affair.
“It definitely didn’t feel like a regular ballroom that night, and that was my goal,” said Emily. “Seeing the ballroom and how gorgeous that turned out really put a nice touch on the night,” added Jake. “We couldn’t be more thankful for everyone that helped put it together.” The meaningful lyrics from “Die a Happy Man” by Thomas Rhett gave Jake and Emily the perfect song for their first dance. “This song was very popular during the time we were dating and has always been one of our favorites.” The two have received advice on how to have a happy marriage, but the one they’ve heard the most is the importance of scheduling a date night with each other on a regular basis, but Jake’s favorite? “Happy wife, happy life!” “We are blown away by the whole day and wish we could relive it over and over again”, say Jake and Emily, “We can’t thank all of our vendors and friends and family enough for making the day one we will never forget.”

Plan a beautiful The idea of getting married during the winter might sound rather bold, if not outright grim. But winter weddings actually have quite a few upsides. Think cozy fireplaces, mugs of hot cocoa and beautiful white snow, as well as some lower costs for planning for an off-peak wedding. Here are a few ideas to consider when you plan your big day.
winter color palette
You may think a winter wedding means using a red and green palette. Nothing could be further from the truth. Gorgeous dark emerald and plum colors, cream and berry tones, sophisticated silver and gold or classic black and white. There’s no limit to your selections.
cake
If you opt for traditional cake, think about a dark chocolate caramel cake or red velvet. Maybe use some flavors of the season such as white chocolate or peppermint.
signature cocktails
Hot-buttered rum and white Russians make the perfect winter cocktail for guests. Or think peppermint or cranberry-laced cocktails to celebrate the season. 34 I Do! Bridal Guide Winter 2020
winter wedding apparel
Faux fur wraps, long sleeves, high necklines and dramatic capes are in fashion and can give you and your wedding party a warm, but stylish look. Add in some details reminiscent of a romantic winter wedding – twinkling lights, deep hues, snow dusted landscapes – by wearing sequined gowns in flattering fishtail silhouettes or simple sheaths for your celebration. The groom and groomsmen have unlimited choices for a winter wedding. Opt for warm sweaters or cardigans in place of suit jackets, or add in sweater vests and heavy wool jackets.
romantic decor
Add fairy lights to your reception and candles to light walkways outdoors. Don’t forget to light exterior trees. You can use candles, tea lights and lanterns both indoor and outdoor to give your wedding a romantic feel. Don’t forget to plan your wedding ceremony earlier in the day or you may run out of light before it’s over.
food
We all know how wonderful a warm winter meal can be. So why not plan for some comfort foods at your wedding?
Look at warm and creamy soups such as tomato, clam chowder or seafood bisque to start and complement your menu with winter produce such as sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes or squash. Desserts can be reminiscent of the season as well with warm apple pie, gingerbread, chocolate fondue or a hot cocoa bar, complete with miniature donuts for dipping.
wedding favors
You can keep winter in mind when selecting favors for your guests as well. If you opt for a hot cocoa bar, give guests their own customized mug as a gift. Pine-scented candles, mulling spices or candy canes are all good choices.
seasonal flowers
Winter can limit your selections for floral displays, but that doesn’t mean settling for less. Why not try some brunia berries – small silver balls that make the perfect accent in a winter bouquet, or hypericum berries – oval shaped red or green berries that are festive and colorful. Pinecones, roses, succulents and manzanita branches all give your wedding florals a unique touch.

Flowers for a Winter wedding flowers can take their inspiration from the white and frosty weather, with icy-looking greenery, and white blooms and gray accents, but can also go bright and beautiful. Below are some ideas inspired by FTD and Teleflora florists.
Red and White
Winter weddings make you think of Christmas and what is more reminiscent of the season than red and white? And there’s more than just the traditional red roses and poinsettias – think burgundy peonies, anemones, ranunculus, amaryllis, tropical ginger, winter holly, and oxblood dahlias. White can be found in hyrdrangeas, gerpoms, tulips, snapdragons, fancy carnations, orchids, peonies and dahlias. All these pair beautifully with the frosty-looking Dusty Miller leaves or hypericum berries and juniper boughs for a fresh look.
Neutral
If you prefer to stay with a more subtle bouquet, consider starting with garden roses. Their large blooms and high petal count make an eye-catching statement as the main focus of your bouquet. Soft-colored peonies, Queen Anne’s lace, sweet peas, hellabore and white anemones can give your bouquet a soft ethereal look. 36 I Do! Bridal Guide Winter 2020
Winter Wedding Rustic
There are so many unusual touches that can be added to a bouquet to give it that wild and rustic look, such as lotus pods, fiddlehead ferns, succulents, dried artichokes and dried vines. Pair any of these ranunculus or mini roses, then fill with plenty of wild greenery such as seeded eucalyptus and grasses. There are some great wild-looking flowers to choose from, including semi-cactus dahlias, protea and cushion daisies and mums.
Go Bold
Is bold your style? Part of the lily family, the amaryllis might be your go-to flower and are available in red, burgundy and pink. There’s also clematis, which comes in a variety of colors, from soft white to
yellow to light and dark purple as well as bright red and dark burgundy. Scabiosa, also known as pincushion flowers, come in a variety of colors such as burgundy, blue, white pink, lavender and red. An unusual flower, the anemone, comes in bright red, pink, magenta, purple and blue and are bold and beautiful in a bouquet.
Greenery
There are a multitude of greens that can be incorporated into winter bouquets. Evergreen sprigs like pine, cedar and blue spruce bring in the winter feel, with eucalyptus varieties such as seeded or silver dollar, or traditional ivy or ferns are all excellent choices. Add some unique touches like viburnum berries, pine cones or acorns for your own particular touch.

Things to consider when planning
destination weddings Have you long dreamed about getting married on a tropical beach or at a countryside villa in Tuscany? The size of a destination wedding can vary, from just the couple to a full wedding celebration, complete with more than one party over a long weekend. Wherever you decide to tie the knot, here are a few things to consider when planning your destination wedding.
package deal
Many resorts have begun to offer wedding packages that include complimentary services of an on-site wedding coordinator to take care of all the essentials – marriage license, cake, officiant – and take the stress off you. The coordinator can organize activities for your guests or arrange for spa services. If no complimentary coordinator is on site at your destination, you can hire a coordinator to take care of all the details and avoid unnecessary headaches.
not all can come
Don’t be surprised if some of your loved ones can’t make it to your wedding. While it may not be a problem for all of your 38 I Do! Bridal Guide Winter 2020
guests, it’s important to understand that a jaunt to Europe, a week-long all-inclusive trip to the tropics or even a weekend in the next town over isn’t in everyone’s budget. People might find it hard to get time off from work and older guests may have difficulty traveling.
remove stressful family situations
A smaller invitation list allows you to invite just your closest family and friends or no one at all, if that’s what you choose. You can avoid inviting those family members that no one can get along with.
long distance complications
Long distance complications. Selecting a destination that doesn’t offer wedding services may leave you struggling through red tape to arrange wedding details long distance, especially if it is in a foreign country. Even another state may have different rules for getting a marriage license. Hiring a coordinator who specializes in destination weddings can help you navigate the hurdles that can come with the locale.
less expensive reception
Having a smaller guest list can mean spending less money than on a traditional reception near your home. One thing to remember, though, because the reception might cost less, you still need to factor in the expenses of traveling and possibly paying for the guests’ hotel rooms, food and some other expenses. If money is a concern, look at countries that have a favorable exchange rate, or even domestic locations.
multi-day affair
Be sure to show your guests you appreciate them traveling to be with you by organizing a few group activities for them, either before or after the wedding. You can plan a welcome breakfast, for example, or an excursion to take in the local sights. Also, think about how you’ll transport wedding essentials to the destination. If you’re traveling by plane, it’s best to pack wedding attire, rings and gifts in your carry-on bag.
