Kids’ Activities

From face painting and balloon art to a rock climbing wall, book reading and a sensory play area, there are plenty of activities for kids at the Douglas County Fair.

Here are just a few of the many things that can be found during the four-day event:

FFA Barnyard – Children love to see all the different animals at the fair each year. Join the local FFA groups in the barnyard to learn about agriculture and participate in farm-to-market activities.

Balloon art – A balloon artist will be making free balloon designs Thursday, Aug. 17 and Saturday, Aug. 19 in the Glenwood State Bank grandstand.

Bike giveaway – Hubbard Radio will be doing its bike giveaway at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 17. Must be present to win. Register from 10am - 2pm at the Hubbard Radio Stage.

Pedal tractor pull – The kids pedal pull will take place Saturday, Aug. 19, at noon in front of the Game and Fish Building. 12:30pm is start time. Registration begins at noon

Princess Pageant – The 2023 pageant will take place Thursday, Aug. 17, at 5:30 p.m. on the Knute Nelson Heritage Stage.

Andria Theatre performances – The cast of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” will perform at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 18 and the cast of Disney’s “Newsies Jr.” will perform at 5:30 p.m. on the same day.

Chahinkapa Zoo – Zoo animals will be on display on Friday, Aug. 18, from 1 to 2 p.m. on the Hubbard Radio Stage.

Book reading and giveaway – Beth Leipholtz is an advocate for inclusion and accessibility who is raising her deaf son, Cooper, bilingually in hearing and Deaf cultures. She will be reading her book, “The ABCs of Inclusion” at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19, on

Rock climbing – A rock climbing wall will be set up on Saturday, Aug. 19. Kids can climb free from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
