MEN's EXECuTIVE

MULVAHILL STUNS THE FIELD

Mulvahill’s upset win means there will be a different Men’s Executive champion for the first time since 2017

Since 2018, there’s been only one person who has won the Men’s Executive Championship division title at the Resorters Tournament: Troy Johnson.

But this year, there will be a different champion, as Bill Mulvahill of St. Louis Park pulled off the upset of the tournament on Wednesday by knocking off the winner of the last five Men’s Executive titles.

As the 31st seed, Mulvahill took an early lead in the first nine holes to defeat the two-seeded Johnson, 4-3. This now leaves the No. 3 seed Daryl Schomer as the most recent division left in the field with his 2017 title win.

Olson def. Nygaard, 6-5

Andrew Olson took care of business as the No. 1 seed in the field by defeating the No. 32 seed Troy Nygaard, 6-5.

After winning holes 11 and 13, Olson won holes 16 through 18 and sealed the win by winning hole 4.

d. Klein def. syverson, 1-up

With a three-hole deficit with three holes to go, the No. 16 seed Jay Syverson made things interesting with by winning holes 7 and 8 to cut Daniel Klein’s lead to 1-up. Both golfers bogeyed the ninth hole, which gave the 17th seed Klein the 1-up win.

Klein won the first two holes of the match, and while Syverson kept cutting into his lead, Klein responded well and is now on to the next round.

Petersen def. grossman, 3-2

The No. 25 seed Brent Grossman had a 1-up lead over the No. 8 seed Andy Petersen after a birdie on the 11th hole, but Petersen won the 12th hole with an eagle to even the match after three holes.

Petersen went on to win holes 16, 18, and 2 to take a 3-up lead. Grossman won hole 4, but with a win on hole 7, Petersen won the match, 3-2.

Christensen def. stout, 4-2

With three birdies on holes 10 through 12 and a par on hole 13, the No. 9 seed Dave Christensen had a 4-up lead over the No. 24 seed Breton Stout.

Stout responded by winning holes 15 and 17, but Christensen got his lead back up to 4-up with wins on holes 1 and 2.

These two each had a hole win over the next five holes, and the match ended after 16 holes.

Black def. Wessel, 8-7

The No. 4 seed Bryant Black was in a rhythm in his match against the No. 29 seed Chris Wessel. Black won eight holes out of 11

MEN’S SENIOR

Division sees major shake up

In an upset-laden round on Wednesday at Alexandria Golf Club, the No. 1 seed in the Men’s senior division, Mark Aldrich, and the No. 16 seed Rick Frieburg squared off and combined for 12 birdies as Aldrich needed extra holes to earn his spot in Thursday afternoon’s quarterfinals.

And the returning champion made an early exit from the field as four golfers pulled off upsets leaving only three of the top eight seeds remaining in the Men’s Senior division.

Aldrich def.

Frieburg, 20 holes

Mark Aldrich was down four entering hole 13 but won four straight holes, carding three birdies in the process to tie his match with Rick Frieburg.

Frieburg won holes 1, 2, 5, 6, and 8 on the front 9 and had a 4-up lead heading to the back. Aldrich tied the match after winning holes 13 through 17.

The pair tied on the final two holes to force a tiebreak that Aldrich won to advance. Both golfers had a phenomenal round finishing at 4-under (68) in the first 18 holes.

Frieburg tallied seven birdies, five of which came on the front nine to earn him the early lead, and Aldrich carded five birdies of his own, capping a great display from the pair.

Howard def. S.

Larson, 1-up

The No. 8 seed Curt Howard logged a clutch birdie on hole 18 to advance past the No. 9 seed Scott Larson in a back-and-forth match. Howard finished the match with two birdies, and Larson made one, as well.

Both players at one

point led by 2-up but never more than that.

M. Larson def. Hagen, 5-3

The No. 13 seed Michael Larson posted a strong round, highlighted by an eagle on hole 12 to defeat the No. 29 seed, Al Hagen.

Hagen won the second hole, but Larson won holes, 3, 5, 6, and 8 on the front nine to lead 2-up heading to the back. Larson won holes 12, 13, and 15 on the back nine.

Larson also added three birdies to Hagen’s two as he secured his spot in the next round.

Freeman def. Haugen, 4-2

The No. 12 seed Jon Freeman was one of four big upsets as he took down the No. 5 seed Chris Haugen. Freeman didn’t lose a single hole during the match and tallied two birdies en route to a quarterfinals berth.

A win on hole 16 by Freeman sealed his spot in the semifinals.

Pokorney def.

Lindberg, 4-3

The No. 18 seed Mark Pokorney took advantage of some early rust from the No. 2 seed Mark Lindberg, the division’s reigning champion, and had a 5-hole advantage heading into the back nine.

Lindberg attempted

to rally by knocking in three birdies on holes 10, 11, and 13 but couldn’t complete the comeback as Pokorney won hole 15 to pull off the upset.

Ystebo def. Bowen, 3-1

Match stats are currently unavailable.

Montplaisir def.

Lehman, 2-up

The No. 14 seed Larry Montplaisir used two front-nine birdies to jump out to an early lead over the No. 3 seed Mike Lehman and knocked in a birdie on hole 18 to seal the upset.

Lehman won hole 2, but Montplaisir won holes 3, 6, 8, and 9, to take a 3-up lead.

Lehman cut the deficit to one hole with a birdie on hole 17, but Montplaisir won the 18th hole to win 2-up.

Lyczewski def. Adams, 4-3

The No. 6 seed Mark Lyczewski won the first four holes over the No. 11 seed David Adams was highlighted by a birdie on hole two. And while Adams was able to nab his own birdie on hole 7, he couldn’t overcome the early deficit.

Lyczewski led by as much as 5-up in the match.

Seven upsets, ranging from minor to major, spiced up the Men’s Championship Division opening round matches Wednesday.

Still standing are the medalist Josh Galvin of Maple Grove; the division’s 2018 runner-up Nate Adams, also of Maple Grove; the 2014 Men’s champion Jaques Wilson; and Jim Lehman, the 2009 Men’s champ and the No. 18 seed.

Here’s a look at yesterday’s matches:

Galvin def. Coatta, 3-2

It took 16 holes for Galvin to knock off Sam Coatta. The match was a hard-fought battle from the beginning. Galvin won Nos. 1 and 3 with a birdie and a par, but Coatta came back with a par win on No. 7 and then made a birdie on No. 9 to draw even.

Galvin regained the lead with a birdie on No. 11, but Coatta rallied again, with a birdie on No. 12 to tie it again. After both golfers made par on No. 13, Galvin found his footing and stormed ahead with three big wins – No. 14 with a birdie, No. 15 with a par, and No. 16 with a par to win the match 3-2.

Holtz def. Gutzmer, 3-2

Having the No. 17 seed, Jack Holz, defeat the No. 16 seed, Thomas Gutzmer isn’t exactly an

Galvin Holtz

upset, but Holtz would take it.

Holtz did well on the front nine building a 2-up lead by winning Nos. 3, 5, 8 and 9. Gutzmer struck for wins on Nos. 1 and 4.

Gutzmer closed the gap to one with a birdie on No. 10 but Holz came back strong, winning No. 12 with an eagle, No. 13 with a birdie, and No. 16 with a birdie. Gutzmer won just one hole – a birdie on No. 15 –during that outburst, and it wasn’t enough to stop Holtz.

Hutton def. Cox, 22 holes

In the day’s longest match, Spencer Hutton, the No. 25 seed, outlasted Kyle Cox, the No. 8 seed, in 22 holes.

Cox held a 2-up lead at the turn and surged to 4-up with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 11 and 12. Both golfers halved the next two holes, putting Hutton in a tough spot –down by four with four holes left.

But Hutton stunned onlookers by pulling off the comeback of the day, winning the final four

holes with a birdie on No. 15, a par on No. 16, a birdie on No. 17 and another birdie on No. 18 to send the match into overtime.

Cox didn’t give up, going toe-to-toe with Hutton through three holes before Hutton put the match away with a win in four extra holes.

Wilson def. Farley, 7-5

It wasn’t Mack Farley’s day. Jaques Wilson took a 3-up lead at the turn and piled up four more wins on No. 10, 11, 12, and 13 to put a quick end to the match, 7-5.

Hamak def. Dionne, 2-up

Logan Hamak survived a back-and-forth battle against Derek Dionne to win it in 18 holes.

Dionne was 1-up at the turn, thanks to a par win on No. 2 and birdie wins on Nos. 5 and 6. Hamak, meanwhile, won two holes, a birdie on No. 3 and a par on No. 4.

Hamak tied the match with a birdie on No. 10, but Dionne’s birdie on No. 12 put him back in the lead. Hamak tied it again on the next hole with par. Both golfers halved the next three

holes with pars. Hamak then put the match away by winning Nos. 17 and 18 with pars for a 2-up victory.

Meyer def. Laffen, 3-1

In another upset, No. 20 seed Ian Meyer took down the No. 13 seed, Ben Laffen.

Meyer grabbed an early lead with a birdie win on No. 1, and two more birdies on Nos. 5 and 6 put him 3-up. He closed out the front nine with a par win on No. 9 to go 4-up.

Laffen’s birdie on No.

Sisters knock off medalist and No. 3 seed

The Olsen sisters, Mackayla and MacKenzie, pulled off two big upsets in the Resorters Women’s Championship Wednesday.

Mackayla, the 16th seed, defeated the No. 1 seed, Mckenzee Sullivan, the division’s medalist, in 19 holes. A twist to the upset: Mackayla never led in the match until that very last hole.

Meanwhile, MacKenzie, the 14th seed, eliminated the No. 3 seed, Lauren Contreras, 2-up.

The other six matches in the division were won by the highest seeds.

Here’s a look back at yesterday’s opening round action:

Mackayla Olsen def. Sullivan, 19 holes

The match started off as expected. Sullivan, who shot even-par during qualifying, won the first three holes with two pars and a birdie. Olsen took the fourth hole with a par and then pulled to within one with a birdie on the par-5 No. 6.

Olsen tied the match with a par win on No. 9 only to drop the next hole with a bogey. Sullivan took charge by winning No. 11 with a bogey and No. 12 with a birdie to go 3-up again.

After swapping pars on No. 13, Olsen kicked her game into high gear. She won 14 and 15 with birdies and deadlocked the match with a par win on the 16th hole. Both golfers settled for par on the final two holes in regulation, sending the match into overtime, where Olsen prevailed.

Herzog def. Catherine Monty, 19 holes

Not to be outdone, Madison Herzog and Catherine Monty staged a thriller of their own by taking the match into OT.

Herzog, the No. 8 seed, never trailed in the duel against the No. 9 seed, Catherine Monty.

Herzog won the first hole with a par and then added an eagle on No. 3 to go 2-up. Monty won her first hole, No. 5, with a birdie but lost the next hole to Herzog’s par on No. 6. After matching pars on the next two holes, Herzog took her biggest lead of the day with a par on No. 9 that pushed her to 3-up.

After they crossed under the road to No. 10, Monty turned the tables, winning Nos. 10 (par), 12 (birdie), and 13 (birdie) to tie the match. Herzog took the 15th hole with a birdie to regain the lead, but it was fleeting. Monty won the next hole with a birdie to tie it. Both golfers made par on the next two holes, setting up overtime. Herzog emerged as the winner and will now face Mackayla Olsen.

Larson def. Klick, 2-1

Cora Larson trailed most of the match against Lauren Klick, but she flipped things around on the last three holes to steal a victory.

Klick dominated the front nine, winning Nos. 2, 4, 8, and 9 and holding Larson to just a pair of wins on Nos. 5 and 6.

Leading by two at the turn, Klick put the pressure on by winning No. 10 to go 3-up, a lead that Larson couldn’t dent on the next two holes. Trailing by three with six holes remaining, Larson launched a comeback, taking No. 13, 14, and 15 to tie the match.

Larson moved into the lead for the first time with a birdie on the 16th hole. On the par-3 17th, Larson made par, beating Klick’s bogey and icing a 2-1 win.

Caroline Monty def.

O’Donnell, 4-2

This was a tight match through the first 13 holes. Caroline Monty took the early lead with a par on No. 1, but she bogeyed Nos. 3 and 4, which Lexi O’Donnell took advantage of to go 1-up. O’Donnell added a birdie win on the next hole to go 2-up,

but Monty battled back, winning No. 6 with birdie and No. 7 with a par to draw even and then taking the 9th hole with a par to go 1-up at the turn.

O’Donnell tied the match with a par on No. 11, but Monty won No. 12 with a par to regain the lead. After matching pars on No. 13, Monty made her move, winning No. 14 with par, No. 15 with a birdie and No. 16 with a birdie to seal the deal, 4-2.

Boraas def. Woodhull, 5-3

Hannah Boraas, the defending champion, kept her repeat chances intact with a 5-3 victory over Amanda Woodhull.

Woodhull won the first hole with par, but that was about all she could muster against Boraas, who held a 2-up lead at the turn. Boraas made a key par on the

late. Skaar birdied No. 14 to close the door, 5-3.

MacKenzie Olsen def. Contreras, 2-up

Olsen drew first blood with a par win on No. 1, but Contreras struck for a birdie on No. 3 to tie it and then jumped into the lead with a par win on the next hole. Olsen rallied to win No. 5 with a par to tie it. Olsen moved back into the lead with a par win on No. 7 and added a par win on No. 9 to go 2-up at the turn.

11th hole to go 3-up and added par wins on Nos. 13 and 15 to close out the victory.

Skaar def. Sommers, 5-4

Leah Skaar didn’t waste much time in her match against Samantha Sommers. She parred the first two holes to go 2-up. Sommers cut into the lead with a par on No. 4, but Skaar answered with a birdie on No. 5 to regain a two-hole lead. Both golfers halved the next two holes before Skaar nailed a birdie on No. 8 to go 3-up, a lead she held at the turn.

On the back nine, Skaar put the pressure on by notching a birdie on No. 11 to go 4-up and then all but wrapped up the win with a birdie on No. 12 to take a five-hole lead. Sommers made a birdie on the next hole, but it was too little too

Olsen won No. 10 and 11 to go up by four. Contreras wasn’t done yet, however. She fought back with wins on No. 12, 13, and 14 to draw to within one, but Olsen took No. 15 with a par to go 2-up and then matched Contreras’ bogey on No. 16 to close out the match.

Hicks def. Avery, 4-3

In the first three holes, Madi Hicks struck for two eagles, Nos. 1 and 3. Avery O’Donnell’s par on No. 2, however, won the hole, so she only trailed by one. O’Donnell tied the match with a birdie on No. 5 but dropped the next two holes with bogeys. Another O’Donnell bogey on No. 9 put Hicks 3-up at the turn.

Hicks’ par win on No. 10 put her in the driver’s seat at 4-up. She matched O’Donnell’s pars on the next four holes. Bogeys by both golfers on No. 15 ended the match.

Sullivan earns Women’s division medalist honors with 4 birdies on the back

It took McKenzee Sullivan a few holes to settle in but she rallied on the back nine to notch an even-par 73 to win medalist honors in

the Women’s Championship Division Monday.

Sullivan, a 17-yearold from Florida competing in her third Resorters Tournament, ran into some bogey troubles early on – Nos.

1, 4 and 9 – but made par on the other six holes on the front to go 3-over after nine.

She found her rhythm after that, parring Nos. 10 and 11 and then made her first birdie on par-5 No. 12.

Sullivan parred the short No. 13 and then struck for another birdie on the 14th hole to go 1-over-par. She had to settle for a bogey on No. 15 but then made backto-back birdies on the next two holes to get

back to even-par. She was able to make par on No. 18 to nail down her medalist round.

Right behind her in the qualifying round was Lauren Contreras, who was 1-over-par for the day, and Alexan-

dria’s Cora Larson who was 2-over.

Sullivan’s par day was three strokes behind last year’s pace when Emma Carpenter’s 3-under par took medalist honors.

“It’s incredible; it almost feels like a tour event,” Carroll said. “I walked out of here last year and couldn’t wait 365 days until next year.”

The top-seeded Will Thornburg trailed his quarterfinal opponent, the No. 9 seed Bronx Esterline, after the first hole but was able to close the first half of the match tied after knocking in a birdie on hole 16.

Jarrett def. Gish, 5-4

Nick Jarrett fell behind early but tied it up against Sklyer Gish with a birdie on No. 6 and took the lead with a birdie on No. 8.

Jarrett won No. 10 and 11 with birdies and added another birdie on No. 12 to coast to a 5-4 win.

the No. 14 seed Krista Bull knocked out the No. 3 seed Jenny Oddland. Oddland led early, but the string of birdies and pars from Bull overtook the No. 3 seed and sent Bull into the quarterfinals.

Nate Adam was tied with Scott Fudenberg after the first six holes and moved into the lead with a par win on No. 7 and tacked on another par win on No. 9 to go 2-up at the turn.

Adams made a birdie on No. 10 and then wowed the gallery with an eagle on No. 11 to go 4-up. Fudenberg won the next hole with a birdie but couldn’t gain traction after that. Adams prevailed 3-2.

Sauer def. Caroll, 5-4

In his match against Andy Caroll, Jon Sauer was 5-up after the first nine holes, thanks to five birdies. Sauer added another birdie on No. 11 to go 6-up and coasted to a 5-4 win. For fun, the golfers continued their match to 18 holes. Carroll ended with a

MEN’S MASTERS

Top four seeds roll into quarterfinals

None of the top four seeds in the Resorters

Men’s Masters division needed to step past the hole-15 green in Wednesday’s rounds to earn a spot in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

The No. 2 seed Jon Empanger, the defending Men’s Masters champion, had the round’s largest win to remind the field he’s back to defend his title.

McGuire def.

Leland, 5-4

Top-seeded Dennis McGuire only lost one hole against the No. 16 seed Bruce Leland in his first round matchup. McGuire won four holes on the front nine and had a three-hole lead heading to the back nine.

McGuire was able to birdie hole 12 to extend his lead late and ease his way into the quarterfinals.

Vanyo def. Hagge,

3-2

The No. 9 seed Rick Vanyo jumped out to an early lead against the No. 8 seed John Hagge winning the first three holes, highlighted by a birdie on hole 1. Hagge was able to knock down a birdie of his own on hole 11 but wasn’t able to erase the early deficit.

M. Herzog def.

Peterson, 4-3

Despite carding three birdies, the No. 13 seed Paul Peterson couldn’t find consistent enough play to knock the No. 4 seed Mike Herzog off in the first round of the Men’s Masters’ top flight. Herzog him-

self was able to tally one birdie as he advanced to Thursday’s quarterfinals.

Herzog won the first two holes and never relinquished the lead.

Blanchard def. Ryan, 1-up

The No. 12 seed Norty Blanchard upset the No. 5 seed and 2021 Resorters Men’s Masters champion, Tom Ryan in the first round of match play. The pair mostly mirrored one another’s scores the whole round, and if not for a bogey from Ryan on hole 14, which lost the hole, the pair might have gone to extra holes. The pair’s other difference on the scorecard was swapping birdies on holes 7 and 8.

Empanger der. Ledebuhr, 7-6

The defending champion Jon Empanger didn’t lose a hole against the No. 15 seed Roger Ledebuhr on his way to claiming a spot in the quarterfinals. Empanger won five of the first nine holes and won two of the first three holes on the back nine to earn the win.

S. Herzog def. Elton, 3-2

The No. 7 seed Steve Herzog knocked off the No. 10 seed Dan Elton with some mostly on-par golfing, and his consistent play earned him a spot in the quarterfinals.

Herzog won the second hole, but Herzog won holes 3, 5, and 6 to head to the back nine with a two-stroke lead. Elton and Herzog each won a hole on the back nine, and the match ended on the 16th hole.

Mattson def. Frie, 4-3

The No. 14 seed Mark Frie knocked in a birdie on the first hole and won three of the first five holes against the No. 3 seed Greg Mattson. Mattson found his form and claimed the pair’s final seven holes to advance.

Hildahl def. Lee, 4-3

AGC gets approval to drill well for new nine-hole golf course

‘Little Darling Project’ will benefit youth and businesses, says AGC

ALEXANDRIA — The Alexandria Golf Club will be able to build a new well for a new nine-hole, par-3 golf course.

At its July 24 meeting, the Alexandria City Council granted the AGC an exemption of the city’s prohibition of drilling any new private wells for domestic or industrial use.

This will allow the AGC to install a 12-inch irrigation well on its property at 2300 North Nokomis NE for the yet-

played and now finds himself in the next round. Black birdied the 12th, (as did Wessel), 13th, 14th, 15th, 1st and 2nd holes in his round.

O’Donnell def. Bull, 5-3

The No. 20 seed Kerry O’Donnell held a 1-up lead over the No. 13 seed Eric Bull after nine holes, but a strong showing on holes 1 through 7 gave him the win over Bull.

O’Donnell won holes 1 and 6 with a birdie and holes 3 and 5 with pars to advance to the next round.

Hoops def. Wahlin, 5-4

The No. 5 seed Bryan Hoops won the first four holes over the No. 28 seed, Josh Wahlin, in their match on Wednesday. Through four holes, Hoop has three birdies, and on the 15th, he recorded his fifth.

Wahlin won hole 16, but Hoops won hole 4, and the match ended after both players pared on hole 5.

D. Johnson def. Hacker, 3-2

The No. 21 seed Dan Johnson had a 1-up lead over the No. 12 seed Chad Hacker after one hole on Wednesday.

to-be-constructed par-3 course, which is referred to as the “Little Darling Project.”

The ALP Utilities Board of Public Utilities and the council take into account several criteria when reviewing exemption applications. They include availability of a water service stub (which there is); proof that city water is detrimental to property or operations; the relationship of the exemption to the city’s wellhead protection plan.

On a 4-1 vote, the council allowed the exemption based on the criteria and other findings of fact: The AGC’s application suggests that city water is not appropriate for golf course turfgrass irrigation; the

Hacker, who was the runner-up in last year’s championship, won holes 13 and 14, but Johnson tied the match with a win on the 18th.

Johnson then won the next three out of four holes, and with wins on holes 6 and 7, earned the 3-2 win.

Mulvahill def. T. Johnson, 4-3

Mulvahill started his day strong with wins on holes 10, 12, 16, and 18 to head into the final nine holes with a 4-up lead.

Johnson chipped away at the deficit with a win on hole 1, but Mulvahill answered with a birdie on hole 2.

Johnson once again chipped away at Mulvahill’s lead with a win on hole 4, but Mulvahill birdied the fifth hole to go back up by four holes.

Both golfers pared the 6th hole, which gave Mulvahill the win.

Mulvahill, who played college golf at St. Thomas, converted four birdies on the day and had just one bogey. Muilvahill won the Resorters Men’s Regular 2nd Flight in 2021.

Pokorney def. Bisson, 4-3

The No. 15 seed Sam Pokorney birdied the first two holes of his round and never looked back in his 4-3 win

Board of Public Utilities considered the application and voted 3-2 to recommend the council to grant the exemption; AGC’s concerns about the use of city water for golf course turfgrass irrigation is evidence that municipal water would be detrimental to AGC’s property or operations.

In its application, the AGC said that city water would have a high mineral content that is less optimal for turfgrass, landscape plant and landscape wells. “Using municipal water to irrigate the Little Darling par-3 course would be inefficient, costly and arguably, a poor use of natural resources available to the community,” said Jerry Rose, Little

Darling Project chair and AGC board member, in a letter to the city.

The new course will be operated as a separate entity from the AGC and no operational funds from the current core golf course will be used to support the Little Darling par-3 course.

The AGC’s long-term vision is to partner with neighboring schools, such as Voyager Elementary, to create additional learning and outside enjoyment for students, Rose said.

Alexandria Golf Club owns approximately 50 acres of property located to the south of its maintenance facility, driving range and hole 8 and 9 of the existing golf course. The property was

leased as farmland for many years and has been placed in the Conservation Reserve Program in recent years.

The AGC plans to build the course on approximately 18 of the 50 acres.

According to the AGC, the natural topography

of the property “is magnificent and will be an incredible venue for a world class par-3 course that will provide significant benefits to our community, our youth, and our local businesses.”

over the No. 18 seed Chad Bisson.

Bisson cut his deficit to 1-up with a win on hole 13, but Pokorney won holes 14, 16, 18, and 1 to take a 5-up lead.

Bisson won the third hole, but both golfers pared the next four holes, and the match ended on the 6th hole.

Norgaard def. Crosby, 7-6 7th-seeded Matt Norgaard took control of his match against 26th-seeded Craig Crosby early as he won the first five out of six holes and led 1-up.

Norgaard won the 17th hole with a birdie, then the 2nd and 3rd hole with pars.

A. Johnson def. Decko, 4-2

Through nine holes, the match between the No. 10 seed Andrew Johnson and No. 23

seed Jeremy Decko was even after Decko birdied the 18th hole.

But with wins on holes 1, 2, 5, 6, and 7, Andrew Johnson earned the 4-2 win over Decko.

Schomer def. Chad Johnson, 4-3

After the No. 30 Chad Johnson won the 18th hole, Schomer’s lead was cut down to 2-up after nine holes.

Schomer responded well with birdies on holes 1 and 2, but Chad Johnson just wouldn’t go down without a fight.

Johnson won holes 3 and 4 to cut Schomer’s lead down to two holes.

But Schomer won holes 5 and 6 with a par and birdie, respectively, to seal the 4-3 win.

Schomer is a fourtime Men’s Executive division winner (2012, 2013, 2015, 2017) and finished runner-up in 2018 and 2021.

G. Klein def. Heimsness, 4-3

The No. 14 seed Geoff Klein got things started on the right foot with wins on holes 10 and 11, both of which were birdies.

But the No. 19 Eric Heimsness swung the momentum of the match with wins on holes 13, 14, and 15, two of which came by birdies.

Geoff Klein responded swiftly, winning holes 18, 1, 2, 3, and 5, and went on to win 4-3.

Geoff Klein won holes 1, 2, 3, and 5 with birdies.

Sauer def. Heimerman, 6-5

Much like Klein did, the No. 6 seed Joe Sauer had a great finish to win his match over the No. 27 seed, Tom Heimerman.

After Sauer won the first two holes,

Heimerman won holes 12 and 16 to even the match through seven holes.

But with wins on holes 17, 18, 1, 2, and 4, Sauer won the match 6-5. The match ended after the fifth hole.

Schultz def. Matt Fischer, 6-5

Cory Schultz played bogey-free golf in his win over the No. 11 seed Matt Fischer, Schultz, the No. 22 seed, didn’t lose a hole and won holes 10, 12, 14, 17, 1, 2, and 3, to win the match 6-5.

Schultz shot 2-under through 13 holes.
