TELEVISION GUIDE Wednesday June 6 to Tuesday June 12, 2012 Highlights this week 1. The sweet 1988 comedy Mystic Pizza (ABC2, Saturday, 8.30pm) is about the coming of age of two sisters and their friend through the romantic lives of the three main characters: Kat Araujo (Annabeth Gish), Daisy Araujo (Julia Roberts), and Jojo Barbosa (Lili Taylor), who are waitresses at Mystic Pizza in Mystic, Connecticut. In his screen debut, Matt Damon has a small part with one line of dialogue: ‘Mom, do you want my green stuff?’ The title of the film was based on the Mystic Pizza shop in Mystic, Connecticut, popular among locals and tourists since 1973. There’s also a Mystic Pizza restaurant in Sunbury, Victoria: www.mysticpizza.com.au. 2. Deborah Mailman and Jim Bani star in Mabo (ABC1, Sunday, 8.30pm), about a man who triumphed over Joh Bjelke-Petersen’s racism and the bankrupt notion of terra nullius. According to the ABC synopsis, ‘In 1973 Eddie “Koiki” Mabo was shocked to discover that the ownership of the land his ancestors had passed down on Murray Island for over 16 generations, was not legally recognised as theirs… In January 1992, at only 55, Eddie died of cancer. Five months later the High Court overturned the notion of terra nullius.’ The ABC site www.abc.net.au/tv/mabo also has a ’classroom’ where you can learn more about the Mabo decision and Native Title in general.
