TELEVISION GUIDE Wednesday July 11, to Tuesday July 17, 2012 Highlights this week 1. Who could go past a South Korean movie whose title, Haeundae (SBS2, Saturday, 9.35pm), looks like that country’s car brand? It is in fact the name of a popular beach resort which will be swallowed up by a mega tsunami. While this is touted as South Korea’s first disaster movie, of course Australian director Peter Weir did it all first back in 1977 with The Last Wave. 2. Mega thespian Kenneth Branagh stars in the British version of Wallander (ABC1, Sunday, 8.30pm), also a Swedish series based on the novels by Henning Mankell. The Scandanavians are keen on brooding, melancholic detectives, who can seem a bit silly to the phlegmatic Aussie. Wallander is a bit slow on picking up the obvious plot signals, too. His alleged home town Ystad is now a tourist magnet which hosts a crime fiction festival. Stick it on your iPhone or visit www.wallander.ystad.se/en. We hear Scandi noir The Bridge is worth a look, too – www.svt. se/2.74611/1.2150564/bron. This North Coast NSW television guide is brought to you by the team that produce these great publications:
