TELEVISION GUIDE Wednesday July 25, to Tuesday July 31, 2012 Highlights this week 1. ABC2 has been quietly running a festival of Woody Allen films and among the best is Zelig (Saturday, 8.30pm). Played by Allen himself (seen here with co-star Mia Farrow in chummier times), the apocryphal Leonard Zelig is a human chameleon who takes on the personalities of those around him out of a desire to be liked. This faux doco is a skilful blending of black-and-white footage with historical newsreels. 2. Jack Nicholson and Matt Damon star in Martin Scorsese’s The Departed (Go!, Sunday, 9.30pm), widely regarded as one of the better crime thrillers. Set in Boston, it involves an Irish Mob boss planting an informant within the Massachusetts State Police at the same time as an undercover cop is assigned to infiltrate the Mob boss’s crew. Who will find out first who’s who? Like Zelig, it’s about the vexed question of identity and what to do with it when you get one.
