TELEVISION GUIDE Wednesday August 22, to Tuesday August 28, 2012 Highlights this week 1. While most of the movies are dross this week, take time out to watch the clever British crime drama Scott And Bailey (ABC1, Friday, 8.30pm). Enough hard edge but not too much gore, and delightful in-depth characterisation of the principals and their families. Now if only someone could successfully bring Donna Leon’s Italian crime novels to the screen – see www. donnaleon.net. 2. Hollywood and Arnold Schwarzenegger owe a great debt of gratitude to the visionary scifi writer Philip K Dick (1928–1982), as can be seen from the clever concepts stuffed into Total Recall (7Mate, Sunday, 9pm), in which memory and identity get a thorough screwing-over. Other notable films based on Dick’s novels are Blade Runner, Minority Report, A Scanner Darkly and Paycheck. See more at www. philipkdick.com. ‘The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words.’ This North Coast NSW television guide is brought to you by the team that produce these great publications:
