Queen Esther (Part 3) A STORY OF COURAGE, HOPE & TRUE HEROISM LESSON BY: TAM WALLS
AFTER HAMAN’S DEATH On the very same day Haman was hanged, king Ahasuerus gave the house of Haman unto Esther the queen. Esther revealed to the king that Mordecai was her uncle. The king took off his ring and gave it to Mordecai and Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman. Fully aware that the decree set forth by wicked Haman was looming, Esther fell down at the feet of the king and besought him with tears to revoke the plan set forth by Haman.
AFTER HAMAN’S DEATH Esther wanted the king to reverse the letters that were sent throughout all of the king’s provinces. She told the king that she could not bear to see her people destroyed. The king told Esther and Mordecai that they had permission to have letters written in the king’s name, and sealed with the king’s ring
A NEW DECREE WRITTEN A NEW DECREE IS
In the 3rd month of Sivan, on the 23rd day, the king’s scribes wrote a new decree according to all Mordecai commanded . The letters were sealed with the king’s ring and sent to all 127 of the king’s provinces. The decree granted the Jews power to gather together and stand for their lives. They were to be ready on the 13th day of the 12th month to avenge themselves on their enemies.
A NEW DECREE When the Jews of Shushan received the decree, they rejoiced and had gladness of heart. Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white with a great crown of gold, and with a garment of fine linen and purple. In every province of the king, the Jews had joy, honor, a feast and a good day. Many of the people in the land became Jews; for fear of the Jews fell upon them.
THE JEWS’ VICTORY When the 13th day of the month Adar arrived, the Jews gathered themselves together throughout all the provinces of the king. The Jews were strong and spirited and fear fell upon all the people around them. In fact, the rulers and other officials over the provinces helped the Jews because the fear of Mordecai fell upon them. Mordecai had a great position in the king’s house and his name was well known among the provinces.
THE JEWS’ VICTORY The Jews smote their enemies with a great slaughter. In Shushan the palace the Jews slew 500 men, even the 10 sons of Haman. The king went unto Esther and asked her what was her petition and Esther asked that the Jews in Shushan be allowed to stand before their enemies the following day. Esther also wanted Haman’s ten sons hanged on the gallows. The king commanded it to so be done.
THE JEWS’ VICTORY The following day the Jews that were in Shushan smote 300 additional men. The Jews in the other provinces slew a total of 75,000 on the 13th day of the month, but had rest from their enemies on the 14th day of the month Adar, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.
FEAST OF PURIM Mordecai wrote letters to the king’s provinces establishing the feast of Purim. It was to be kept on the fourteenth and fifteenth day of Adar every year. The two days represented when the Jews rested from their enemies, and the month was turned unto them from sorrow to joy. Mordecai commanded that they should make the two days occasions of feasting, sending portions to one another, and gifts to the poor.
FEAST OF v PURIM The Jews ordained and accepted Mordecai’s words that these two days should be remembered throughout every generation. Because Haman, their enemy, had devised against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that is, the lot, to consume them. Esther the queen then wrote with all authority to confirm the matters of Purim, and it was written in the book. Mordecai, the Jew, was next unto king Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews.
PURIM TODAY TODAY PURIM Although we celebrate the feast of Purim as s memorial to what happened during the time of Esther and Mordecai and their victory over their enemies; we look forward to our own victory against our enemy Satan. We pick up our weapons of war when we put on the full armor of God and walk within his laws and testimonies. Being armed spiritually will help us defeat Satan so that we may earn a victory of life eternal.
ESTHER ESTHER Esther stands as a fantastic example of how we must overcome Satan. In the face of adversity Esther prayed to God for the strength and courage to go before the king, risking death because he had not called her into his court. Esther allowed the spirit of God to direct her steps and form the words in her mouth in order to help her people. Esther had a pure hope and faith in God, praying with all fervency that God would remember the Jews in their affliction and make himself known before their enemies.
THE END!
