FIRE FROM ABOVE! WIH YOUR PALs ELLIE & ELI

ONE DAY IN THE KITCHEN Every Sunday afternoon, my mom bakes a yummy dessert for me, my sister and dad. Well, only if my father behaves himself. Haha. I love watching her in the kitchen. She sings and laughs and even lets me help sometimes. My mother is so knowledgeable and works her way around the kitchen.

ONE DAY IN THE KITCHEN When my mom turns on the stove or oven she always warns me to get back. I can hear her in my mind, “don’t touch Ellie. The fire is hot and very dangerous. Do you understand?” “Yes mom, I know,” I always say.

LETS BAKE A CAKE! One day she was making a cake. Butter and sugar. Blend. Eggs. Crack, crack and blend. Dry ingredients. Salt, flour, baking soda, now stir. Pour it in the wet ingredients. Blend. Now milk. Blend. Now some yummy vanilla. Blend and voila you have cake batter. Hehe.

LETS BAKE A CAKE! I so badly wanted to taste it but my mom wouldn’t let me because of the raw eggs. She said, “oh just you wait. You have to be patient.” She poured the cake batter into the pans and opened the oven door. “Step back dear.” I could feel the heat even a couple feet away.

LETS BAKE A CAKE! “Now, give it some time,” my mother said. “And when you look again, you will start to notice the batter change form. It will become more solid and rise and after more time you will begin to smell a wonderful aroma that fills the entire kitchen, better yet the house.”

WE NEED FIRE Once the cakes are finished, it will never be liquid again, instead it will be this soft, crumbly goodness that we get to eat. Do you know how? The heat from the fire. It’s like magic. We need fire to cook, to bake and we need it to live in this world and the world to come.

HMMM…..QUESTIONS? Hmmm. That stuck out to me. What exactly did she mean, in this world and the world to come, especially if it’s so dangerous.

Take It Away Eli! I can help you with that Ellie. Fire is not only used for cooking. It helps with so much more. Some examples include…. •

Heating homes (Without it you would

Running engines (So mommy and daddy can drive you to school).

Melting metals (The jewelry your mommy might wear or the watch your daddy wears are metals that were melted in those shapes).

Generating electricity (So you can turn on your TV or video games).

be super cold in the winter).

WE NEED FIRE Now unlike water, we cannot touch it or ingest it in our bodies but it is still vital to our everyday lives as we see in the list above. Without fire, we would not be able to survive very well in the world we know today. And those are just the common uses of fire.

Tell Us More Eli! When I say common, I am talking about things that pertain to this earth. It doesn’t have to be bad. When you go to school, when you play or when you spend time with family or friends…. These are the common aspects of our lives.

Eli Knows! As you have learned in other lessons, the Lord teaches us about the truth by comparing it to things we see or use in everyday life. We found that out about water. The same goes with fire. You see, fire is also a symbol of the Holy Spirit. How so you may wonder? I’m going to share with you a story my Dad would read me and my cousins called “Not Your Ordinary Medal.”

NOT YOUR ORDINARY METAL There was a lump of metal. Dirty to the naked eye but would you believe if I said unto thee it was gold unrefined. Many thought it worthless. They tossed it to the ground. They laughed at it and mocked at it. It was gold unrefined.

NOT YOUR ORDINARY METAL Gold unrefined. So much more than meets the eye. Gold unrefined. Just you wait, just you wait. You will shine.

NOT YOUR ORDINARY METAL There once was a man. A man with a hot, hot oven. With flames that burned so bright. And soared right up to heaven. He saw this lump of metal and knew its precious worth. He took it in his hand and then he got to work.

NOT YOUR ORDINARY METAL Gold unrefined. So much more than meets the eye. Gold unrefined. Just you wait, just you wait. You will shine.

NOT YOUR ORDINARY METAL He placed it in his oven. To get rid of the dirt. To melt away impurities. So all would know its worth.

NOT YOUR ORDINARY METAL He placed in the oven. To purify it well. To change and make it perfect. To shine across the land.

NOT YOUR ORDINARY METAL He placed in the oven. To refine as he saw fit. Forever will you be perfect. Precious on the outside and within .

NOT YOUR ORDINARY METAL Gold so refined. How you shine, how you shine, how you shine. Gold so refined. How you shine, how you shine, how you shine

NOT YOUR ORDINARY METAL Gold so refined. How you shine, how you shine, how you shine. Gold so refined. Ever shining your perfect light. The End.

TEACH US ELI The lump of metal that was unrefined gold represents us, children of God on this earth. Those that saw the metal thought it to be dirty, worthless and something to make fun of.

TEACH US ELI Not all but many of God’s people are amongst the poor or minority groups. They are people that are often considered to be inferior or less than and get treated as such by the wicked. You might even get made fun of for believing the way you do.

PRECIOUS GOLD We say gold because it is a metal that is considered to be precious and rare. Precious means something of great and superior value. We are God’s children. He loves us and we are very dear and precious to him. Now that makes me feel special. How about you?

RARE IN NUMBER Rare means few in number. There are lots of people on this earth but only a few are children of God.

WE ARE UNREFINED GOLD Why are children of God on this earth unrefined gold? Unrefined means something that has impurities, things that are not clean. Unrefined gold found in the earth can be found in streams, rocks and under the earth’s surface.

WE ARE UNREFINED GOLD If you were to look at gold in its natural state it is not like a shiny gold coin or necklace that you may imagine. Instead, it may have dirt on it. This gold is often mixed with other metals such as silver, copper or iron, preventing it from being pure.

SIN IS BAD AND UNPURE Just like sin prevents us as people from being pure or fully clean in God’s eyes.

WE HAVE DEATH IN US Impurities also represents the death we have in our bodies. Death! That’s sad but true. We all have death in our bodies, even kids like you and me. How so? We age. We can get sick. We can get hurt and have pain. Children and adults alike can and do die in this world.

GOLD IS LIKE THE WORD Gold in its purest form, also represents the word of God, which is Christ. We have to be righteous and good like Jesus. The man with the oven represents our Savior and the fire in the oven represents the Holy Ghost.

WE WANT TO BE PURE To make us pure like the word and therefore like Christ, the fire of the Holy Ghost has to refine and purge away the sin and death in us. Refine and purge are basically the same in meaning. Both words mean to remove or get rid of something unclean, unwanted or bad.

FIERY BAPTISM During the end of time, Christ will baptize his children with the fire of the Holy Ghost so that we can have new minds, new hearts and new bodies that cannot sin, age, get sick or die. When Jesus does this for us, we will be perfect, we will be pure and clean, without any thing bad in us.

FIERY BAPTISM This fiery baptism causes a permanent change. That is how powerful the fire is. We won’t go back to our old bodies or old sinful ways. Recall how that liquid cake batter changed into a solid cake. It could not return to liquid any more. And once the unrefined gold was placed in the oven it forever became pure gold.

FIERY BAPTISM Same applies to us. We won’t ever feel sad again. Instead, we will always be happy and live forever as one big family with our God in heaven. Amen.
