Plant Offerings to God

By: Ebony Williams

Introduction

When God instructs us to do something, we must do it exactly the way he has commanded us to do it. Otherwise, he will not accept it. He is a God of order. Which means, he wants things done a certain way.

! Remember how Moses had to always speak to the children of Israel ? God used Moses to always tell the children of Israel what to do and how to behave.

! Let’s think back on the meat offerings using animals. There were very specific rules a person had to abide by when offering a burnt offering using animals.

! Today, you will learn about sacrificial offerings of meat using plants.

! These offerings, much like the animals, had very specific ways in which they were to be offered.

! Let’s Get Started!

Grain/Plant Offerings Remember when a person wanted to make an offering unto the Lord, it had to be of his own free will (voluntary), not forced.

! Here were the instructions for meat offerings: • The offering had to be fine flour with oils of frankincense. • The priest had to burn the oils on the alter so that it could be an offering made by fire. • The remnants (small particles left over) were for Aaron (the Priest) and his sons, because it was the most holy of the offering.

Baked Offerings

! !

If a person of his own voluntary will, wished to make an offering unto the Lord, that had been baked in the oven, then this is how it had to be presented. • It could not be made of leaven (unleavened breads) mingled and anointed with oil.

! Offering baked in a pan: • Made with fine flour, unleavened, and mingled with oil. • The offering should be cut in pieces and oil was to poured on top of it.

Baked Offerings

These offerings had to be brought to the priest who had to burn it upon the alter. This will be considered an offering made by fire and a sweet savor unto the Lord!

! It had to be done this exact way!

! Remember, no meat offering/burnt offering that was to brought unto the Lord could be made with any leaven or honey.

! !

Firstfruit Offerings

Firstfruit offerings. What are they?

! The firstfruit is the first produce of the harvest. God requires the very best and the first of everything. His offerings should be considered first in everything you offer.

! The firstfruits meat offerings was to be that of green ears of dried corn. The corn could be on the ear or off the ear. It should be sprinkled with oil of frankincense and salt.

! The priest was to burn the beaten corn on the alter with the oil and all of the frankincense.

Salt ! Salt was a very important ingredient that had to be included with every offering. It could not be omitted (left out). This was a commandment from the Lord.
