`
There was a young woman by the name of Mary, a virgin, who was espoused or promised to marry a man named Joseph. Before the couple could marry, the young woman was found to be with child of the Holy Ghost. Now understand this, Joseph was a just man and he loved Mary tremendously therefore, he was not going to make a public mockery or example of her. Instead, Joseph decided to put Mary away privily or hide her.
AN ANGEL COMES TO JOSEPH As Joseph began to think on the situation at hand, an angel of the Lord appeared unto Joseph in a dream saying, “Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.” The angel continued by telling Joseph that Mary would bring forth a son, and the child’s name shall be called JESUS. This Jesus would save his people from their sins. Later, Joseph awoke from his sleep. Joseph then did as the angel of the Lord bid him, and took Mary as his wife.
A DECREE IS MADE After a certain time, a decree was made by Caesar Augustus, that the world should be taxed. Everyone had to go to their own city to pay their taxes. Joseph left Galilee and traveled into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem. During this time, Mary was great with child and soon to be delivered.
OUR SAVIOR IS BORN While Joseph and Mary abode in Bethlehem, the time came for Mary to deliver the child. Mary brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for him at the inn.
THE SHEPHERDS There were shepherds watching over their flocks at night, when an angel of the Lord came upon them. The glory of the Lord was very bright and the shepherds were sore afraid. The angel said, “fear not, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.
HIGH PRAISE The angel told the Shepherds that they could find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothing, lying in a manger. As the angel was speaking, suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
THE SHEPHERDS GO TO BETHLEHEM As the angels were gone away, the shepherds made haste to go to Bethlehem to see if what the angel said to them was true. The shepherds soon found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. When the angels saw the babe, they made it known the things they were told ,by the angel, concerning the child. Those who were there, wondered at the things told them by the shepherds however, Mary pondered the shepherds very words in her heart.
THE SHEPHERDS GO TO BETHLEHEM
As the shepherds returned to their home, they glorified and praised God for all the things they had heard and seen, just as the angel told them.
HIS NAME IS JESUS After eight days, the child was circumcised and his name was called JESUS. Later, Joseph and Mary brought the baby to Jerusalem, to present him before the Lord and to make a sacrifice of two turtledoves or two young pigeons. This was the law of the Lord for every male that open the womb.
SIMEON BLESSES While the child and his parents were in the temple, the Spirit led a man by the name of Simeon to the temple. Simeon was a just and devout man. The Holy Ghost revealed to Simeon that he would not see death before seeing the Lord’s Christ. Upon seeing the child, Simeon took the babe into arms and blessed God. Simeon was thankful for seeing Jesus who was way of Salvation for all. Simeon said that Jesus was a light to the Gentiles and the glory of the people of Israel. Joseph and Mary marveled at the words spoken by Simeon. Simeon then blessed Joseph and Mary.
A PROPHETESS NAMED ANNA In the temple dwelt a prophetess named Anna. She was a woman of great age and was widow of about fourscore and four years. Anna departed not from the temple, but served God with fasting and prayers night and day. As she saw the babe, she gave thanks unto the Lord. Anna said that the babe was the way for all who seek redemption.
