A long, long time ago God told the children of Israel to make booths out of branches of trees. They had to live in the booths for seven days! They would even sleep outside in the booths.

Have you ever gone camping outside? People sometimes camp in tents. The booths were kind of like tents but they weren’t made out of cloth, they were made from branches of trees.

They would gather branches from all kinds of trees and put them together to make a booth for their whole family. It was fun and exciting to put the booths together.

But why did God want them to live in booths for seven days?

It was to remind them that they lived in booths when he rescued them from the mean Egyptians that had hurt them and made them slaves.

The booth means that God saves and protects us from harm.

The feast of Tabernacles is about how God protects us and keeps us safe. The tabernacle is where the children of Israel went to worship God. It was a beautiful tent made of blue and red and purple cloth with gold designs all over it. Where do we go to worship God now? We go to church!

So the feast of tabernacles means that God protects you, and that you come to worship him in your church.

The feast of tabernacles is also about all of God’s children coming together. God says to gather together. God has many, many people all around the world.

The people look different and speak different languages. Some speak Spanish and some English and some Russian and all the languages in the world!

One day God will tell all of his children to come together in one place to worship him. They may look different and speak different languages but they are all God’s children.

The place they will come to is called Mount Zion. It is the Great Tabernacle. It will be in the land of Israel. It is a beautiful place full of wonderful trees and flowers. The trees have delicious fruit growing on them. The animals there are nice. They don’t fight or bite each other and they don’t hurt people

Everything will be happy and nice there. Nothing bad will happen any more. No one will get sick or hurt or die. No one will be mean to each other. You can play with lions and bears and ride horses. you can climb trees and jump in the river.

You will sing to the Lord and enjoy all of the wonderful things to do. There will be so many people to worship God on the Sabbath day, just like you. They will keep the feast days just like you too.

So remember what Tabernacles mean, God keeps you safe, You worship God in church, and you gather together with the children of God and worship him in Mount Zion.
