!e Resurrection Our hope from christ
Introduction Resurrection: to bring back to life; raise from the dead The resurrection is the power of God’s word that overcomes & subdues all things to him (Philippians 3: 20-21) When christ died he resurrected to life claiming victory over death During the end of time all humankind, both righteous & wicked, will be resurrected but not at the same time & not all will gain salvation Many churches in this world do not discuss the doctrine of resurrection and prefer to promote the idea that when you die you go to heaven or hell This presentation will discuss what the resurrection is and dispel the myth mentioned above Š2011 Household Of Israel Temple Of Jesus Christ. Our hope Throughout the books of the bible the lord has taught us the hope of the resurrection Job 19: 25-27, Psalms 30: 3, Hosea 13: 14, Isaiah 25: 7-8, Isaiah 26: 19, 2 Esdras 2: 16 & 31 (apocrypha), Baruch 2: 17 (apocrypha)
There is no where in the bible that indicates that at death your soul goes to heaven or hell In fact, those who die in Christ will rise to eternal life as christ did (romans 6: 5) Lets discuss the resurrection of christ Š2011 Household Of Israel Temple Of Jesus Christ. All Rights Reserved
Christ’s resurrection Christ is our resurrection & hope “And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus. And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? (Luke 24: 3-5) [Also review St. John 20: 3-13] Christ’s body not only resurrected from the dead but was changed to an immortal body, meaning he was not subject to death anymore

Christ’s resurrection Before christ ascended up to god the father the first time, mary magdalene was able to see him though she did not recognize him at first (st. John 20: 13-17) Christ returned to earth again to walk before the disciples & communed with them for a period of time before his final ascension to heaven In fact, when the disciples saw him they were initially afraid but christ stated the following... “And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts. Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.” (Luke 24: 38-40)

Christ is our example Christ is always our sign & example As you see with the previous 2 slides, christ’s soul did not rise up to heaven, nor did he leave his body to decay in this earth When he gave up the ghost, the breath of life was removed from him He was buried in the ground & his body remained there until it was time for him to rise up Š2011 Household Of Israel Temple Of Jesus Christ. Christ is our example Like christ, we have the opportunity to overcome death by achieving our one goal eternal life We do this by obeying god which leads us on the path of life (Matthew 19: 16-17, St. John 6: 44-51 & St. John 6: 53-58) If we are successful & if it is god’s will to end our lives, our bodies will rise from the grave Š2011 Household Of Israel Temple Of Jesus Christ. two deaths We are all made out of the dust of the earth & water just as our forefather adam It is because of the sin in the garden that sin & death has corrupted us all Though the breath of life flows in our body, we remain fragile & age each day It is also this sin that has caused two deaths including the common death & eternal death Š2011 Household Of Israel Temple Of Jesus Christ. Common death common death, which is the first death, is the death of the flesh Most people, both the righteous & the wicked, experience the first death We know at least 3 people who were signs & did not experience the common death including enoch, elijah and esdras (genesis 5: 19-24, 2 kings 2: 11 & 2 esdras 14: 7-9) Instead their bodies where changed or transfigured & they were taken up to paradise We also know that in the last days there will be a remnant of people that will live to see him come

Common death When a person passes away the breath of life is retracted from them This death is temporary & has been referred to as a sleep (I corinthians 15: 51 & mark 5: 35 & 39-41) Why?....when a person is sleeping they can awake God’s voice will sound like a trumpet & he will awaken the dead at the time appointed

Saints & the common death When the saints of God die they go into rest and peace Some of the saints are called to this rest to keep & protect them from evil (Isaiah 26: 19-20, Habbakkuk 3: 16 & Wisdom of Solomon 3: 1-8) Length of life is in the hand of god The death of his saints are precious to him (Psalms 116: 15 & Psalms 68: 20) Š2011 Household Of Israel Temple Of Jesus Christ. Saints & the common death “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?” (John 11: 25-26) this scripture is hope & a promise from god “Though he were dead, yet he shall live,” means that though the saints may experience the common death he will raise them back up to gain eternal life “And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die,” indicates that you will not die the eternal or final death if you live in him To live in christ is to walk like him, which means you keep the laws of god ©2011 Household Of Israel Temple Of Jesus Christ. eternal death The second death is the eternal death This is the death of not only the body but also the soul, the mind & the spirit, everything that is the person (Revelation 20: 6) In other words, when a person dies the second death it is permanent & they will not return as decreed by the judgment of god

The wicked & the eternal death The second death is the judgment that follows the wicked The wicked are cast into the lake of fire & brimstone (revelation 20: 14-15) This judgment is rendered upon the wicked because of their continued disobedience Let us not forget that god is merciful He has given us all the opportunity to escape the grave through his grace but the wicked, no matter what, will reject the truth & disobey

two resurrections Just as there are two deaths there are also two resurrections The first resurrection is the resurrection of life The second resurrection is the resurrection of damnation (st. John 5: 28-29, 2 esdras 2: 20-23)

first resurrection The first resurrection is for the children of god Some saints, such as moses & lazarus, have risen from the grave prior to the first general resurrection that will occur in the last days (matthew 17: 1-3 & st. John 11: 38-45) Any resurrection occurring before the first general resurrection is also considered the first resurrection Remember that the saints of god only experience the first or common death Those saints that were called from death came into the judgment and would not have died again (hebrews 9: 27) Š2011 Household Of Israel Temple Of Jesus Christ. first resurrection The first resurrection occurs in the last days, at the time of judgment when the lord shall reward us (st. John 11: 21-24 & luke 14: 14) It occurs at the last trump with great signs & wonders During the first resurrection there will be a great earthquake and the graves will open The bodies will come together and the flesh will come upon the bones Eternal life will be placed into their bodies and the saints of god will be called up to meet god in the clouds (I Thessalonians 4: 14-18, ezekiel 37: 1-14 & I corinthians 15: 51-55) Š2011 Household Of Israel Temple Of Jesus Christ. second resurrection The second resurrection is reserved for the wicked This resurrection occurs a thousand years after the first resurrection Satan is loosed a little while from the pit He will gather all of the wicked people who were resurrected & come up to fight against god & Jerusalem, the holy city When they come up to fight, fire comes down from heaven to destroy them The dead are judged, and satan & death are all destroyed in the lake of fire and brimstone at the second death (revelation 20: 6-15) Š2011 Household Of Israel Temple Of Jesus Christ. What about the myth Though the scriptures clearly depict a resurrection, the belief that your soul goes to heaven or hell dominates the doctrine of many churches This myth is not limited to self professing christians Religions around the world, such as hinduism or Buddhism, believe in some form of after life or reward after death How did this myth find its way to the doctrine of most self proclaimed ‘christian’ churches?

Immortality of the soul Research reveals that the belief that the soul is immortal began with the pagan religion of egypt the idea of soul’s immortality did not cease with egyptian civilization and was passed onto the greeks Greek philosophers, such as plato, justified this belief by making it appear wise and logical

Immortality of the soul This belief was eventually perpetuated to the early catholic church fathers who viewed the greek philosophers to be just as authentic and knowledgeable of the truth as the prophets of the bible The greatest catholic theologians wrote works that sought to merge christianity with greek philosophy All of this influence has led to the belief that when you die you go to heaven or hell
