GRANT U. STEWART 224 S. Meade St. Greenville, NC 27858 Cell (252) 347-3369 Gus0224@mail.ecu.edu Objective: An internship for a commercial construction firm where I can learn skills in planning, estimating, and materials management. Dedicated and optimistic, I am a team player who enjoys contributing to a common goal. An efficient overseer, I have an innate ability to prioritize needs and get things done. I believe that it takes a strong enthusiasm for the project to provide top level motivation to get the work done in a timely manner and I enjoy using my skills in communication to keep everyone on target to bring the project in on time. Career Focus: I am interested in a career in construction where I can use my education from ECU to help a commercial contractor complete construction projects on time and within cost guidelines. At ECU I have learned how to develop and implement quality control programs, determine job specifications, the appropriate construction methods, how to schedule project components, how to direct laborers and how to track costs and expenses. For example, 9 We were assigned to visit a jobsite weekly through the semester to study the construction phases. I visited the new West End Dining Hall on campus, took pictures and observed the progress each week. I was able to benefit from my observations by better understanding the timing of the various structure components and the importance of having the materials on site on time. 9 I conducted a takeoff assignment of all the duct, electrical work, and piping in the Physicians East building in Greenville, NC. I used the blueprints of the facility to conduct the takeoff in finding how much duct, piping, and electrical work are in the building. This project helped expand my practical experience in the mechanical and electrical aspects of construction. 9 I worked with Habitat for Humanity to build a house as a part of a Techniques class. Every lab we would meet and the instructor would explain everything that was being done from the forms and concrete to the framing and roofing. This experience helped me to understand the home building process and the role of qualified staffing in project completion. I funded my education by working part-time during the school year and full-time during the summers in a variety of jobs in the retail and service sectors from 1999 – 2005.
