Savour the Southeast’s Eat Local Week “Superstar Search” From April 15- 21, 2013 the Economic Development Alliance of Southeast Alberta (EDA) is piloting an eat local week. During the week participating restaurants, retailers and grocers will be offering local food at a discounted price to consumers. A Guide to Local Cuisine will be made available prior to and during the week, releasing the names of the businesses involved and which producer they buy from, locations, the local dish they are serving as well as the discount offered. Also included in the guide will be recipes that include some of southeast Alberta’s main ingredients and can be created in your own kitchen. As part of the event the EDA is launching Savour’s Eat Local Week Superstar Search. A contest to help create buzz and awareness on the benefits of supporting local as well as spotlight some of the talent found within the community. Videos, articles, photographs, audio and electronic posters will be accepted as submissions for the contest. Participants are requested to include a call to action stating: I (or we) support local…do you? Make the commitment today within their entry. Bonus points will be granted to those that include a producer in their submission as well as the website savourthesoutheast.ca. The winner will be awarded $250 in Savour Bucks and will become the spokesperson for the week. During April 15-21 the Savour Bucks can be used on local food in the participating grocery stores, restaurants and/or retail outlets.
