Explore With Me is a comprehensive Social, Environmental and Scientific Education (SESE) programme covering all strands of the SESE curriculum. It was designed, written and reviewed by experienced primary school teachers.
Textbook
In line with the other classes, the 5th Class programme: ● Covers the three subjects of history, geography and science in one combined textbook ● Takes a balanced approach to the teaching and learning of the three subject areas of history, geography and science ● Adopts a thematic approach, exploring child-relevant themes on a monthly basis ● Gives children opportunities ‘to explore, investigate and develop an understanding of natural, human, social and cultural dimensions of local and wider environments, to learn and practise a wide range of skills, and to acquire open, critical and responsible attitudes’ (p.2, Social, Environmental and Scientific
Education Curriculum) ● Develops key historical, geographical and scientific skills ● Facilitates oral language development ● Colour-codes subject areas for ease of reference: history (green), geography (blue) and science (orange) ● Clearly indicates strand, strand unit, theme and key skills.
Digital Resources
● A wide range of digital resources complement and enhance lessons, including interactive posters,
PowerPoints, videos, interactive activities and end-of-unit quizzes.
Activity Book
● Provides skills-based activities and a monthly learning log to record pupil learning.
Teacher’s Resource Book
● Provides extensive supports to teachers, including a yearly plan, monthly overviews, fortnightly overviews, lesson plans, suggested STEAM and extension activities, and worksheets to support active learning, assessment and differentiation.
