1 What activities take place in the library? 2 What types of books might you find in the library? 3 What types of texts besides books might you find in the library? 4 What are three pieces of advice about the library you could take from this poem? COMMUNICATING: GROUP DISCUSSION Read these six reasons to join the library. Then discuss with your classmates whether there are any other points you would like to add to the list. Six reasons to join the library 1 In Ireland, we have public libraries that are completely free to join. 2 The library itself offers a quiet, peaceful space to sit and browse books or read. 3 If your local library doesn’t have the book you want, the library will find it and order it in for you – for free! 4 Joining is easy – all you need to do is fill in a form online or in person and get the signature of your parent or guardian. 5 You can renew books or order books online using the library app. 6 You can also read magazines, newspapers and e-books online and listen to audiobooks for free by using library apps, such as PressReader, RBdigital and BorrowBox. What Type Of Reader Are You? Many different types of reader exist in the world. You may yourself go through all the types in your lifetime or even in the space of a year. There are times in our life when we are reluctant to read and other times when we can’t get enough of reading. The important thing to know is that just because you may not be in love with reading right now, doesn’t mean you won’t fall in love with a book again sometime in the future. Take the quiz opposite to see what type of reader you are at the moment.©The Educational Company of Ireland
