Booking fees vary between venues and booking method. For more information on booking fees please call venue box office, check the website or ask before booking. There is a £1.00 handling charge per transaction for Underbelly’s book by text service.

Terms and Conditions

Concession prices (where listed) are available to children under 16, students, registered unemployed, Young Scots/Stage Pass holders, Senior Citizens and disabled persons, unless otherwise stated. Proof of status must be shown when purchasing tickets and collecting tickets. Tickets are non-exchangeable and non-refundable. All credit card bookings must be collected at least 20 minutes before the performance start time. Venues will post tickets up to 19th July. It is not possible to admit latecomers to performances. The Venue Management reserves the right to alter the published programme and to refuse admission. All seats are unreserved. No admission after 9pm for under 14s and no admission after 10pm for under 18s at the Gilded Balloon Teviot.

While a great deal of investment has been made in our facilities, our theatres are fitted almost solely for the Festival. We make adjustments to give reasonable access but we are aware that there are still some services we cannot provide, as well as areas where improvements still need to be made. 25 years of the Gilded Balloon

I can’t believe that it’s 25 years since I started presenting shows in a tiny studio theatre in the Cowgate. Since these heady early days – when it all seemed so much easier; the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Festivals in August have become the biggest Arts Festiva l in the World and therefore play a vital part in the performing arts industry. Sounds very grand – however, looking through this programme – you can see why! Nowhere would you find as much enterta inment and talent in one city in such a short space of time. Certainly it is no coincidence that so many performers launch their careers in Edinburgh and over these last 25 years I have seen more than most. At the beginning of the Gilded Balloon I presented Arnold Brown, Liz Lochhead and Roland Rivron and was completely hooked. The following year Late’n’Live was born – the late night show that became the place comics came to see other comics live or die at the hands of the audience. From then on the Gilded Balloon was on the map and its been a roller coaster ride ever since. Late’n’Live soon became an Edinburgh institution, led by comperes like Mark Lamarr, Boothby Graffoe, Frank Skinner, Ross Noble, Daniel Kitson and Russell Howar d. Many performers, who are now household names started out at the Gilded Balloon. The most memorable include Caroline Quentin, Meera Syall, Helen Lederer, Cathy Burke and Arnold Brown, Sean Hughes, Steve Coogan and John Thomson all winning the Perrier Award. Michael Redmond, Norman Lovett, who are both returning this year, were Gilded Balloo n regulars. Others include Jo Brand, Patrick Marber, Arthur Smith, Kevin Day, The Doug Anthon y Allstars, Alistair McGowan, Ardal O’Hanlon, Mark Steel, Eddie Izzard, Bill Bailey, Phill Jupitus, Alan Davies, Simon Pegg, Rich Hall, Lee Evans, Jeff Green, Johnny Vegas, Dara O’Briain, Tim Minch in and Flight of the Conchords. These are only a few – there are oh so many more that have contrib uted to our history and have stories to tell, staff too, have learnt and worked with the Gilded Balloo n early in their careers and gone on to greater things. Hundreds of performers have captivated audiences at the Gilded Balloo n over the last 25 years and that is what creating the Gilded Balloon has all been about. We are always searching for the newest, most talented and the best in entertainment and will contin ue to do so as long as I am around and hopefully long after.
