DIY Crafting Club for Youth

Path: Visual Art and Design Level: Beginner – Intermediate Want to learn how to make something but don’t know how? Do it yourself (DIY) crafts have become such a trend and you can create on a budget! Each week learn step-by-step projects. Challenge yourself, use your unique artistic flair and ingenuity to take home your finished design project. KGM – IPad Video Game Creation

Path: Computer Programming Level: Beginner – Intermediate Children will create many games on their IPad by using; single & multiplayer options, A.I’s, enemies and platformers. Participants will learn the basics of creating games by using coding concepts such as If statements, conditions, variables, sequencing etc. Impress your family and friends by sharing your unique games with them. Note: an Apple© Ipad is required for this program (Other tablets will not work). Age: 9 to 12 Years Location: Old Town Hall

Master Artist Alive

Path: Visual Arts Level: Beginner – Intermediate Geared to your creative and spirited artinterested child, this program will focus on a rich experience of the arts infusing a wide range of art material and self- expression. Each week there are special themes and master artists: from clay, to paper, Matisse to Banksy, crayons to charcoal and so much more. Age: 8 to 12 Years Location: Recreation Youth Centre & Sk8 Park

Origami Beginner Expressions

Path: Visual / Mixed Media Arts Level: Beginner – Intermediate Turn Origami into artistic expression. This program will teach the traditional art of paper folding while developing mindfulness and patience with a guided approach. Age: 10 to 14 Years Location: Recreation Youth Centre & Sk8 Park

Photography Fundamentals for Youth

Path: Photography / Visual Art Level: Beginner Designed with youth in mind, this online virtually delivered program features photography fundamentals, hands-on activities and lots of discussion on what photography is. With history and insight into how cameras work, this session will start the photography bug in you. Complete with weekly photo challenges, each participant will be actively involved. DSLR camera required/preferred. Registration link provided prior to program start. Ages: 12 to 16 Years Location: Virtual Classroom

Teens in the Kitchen

Path: Culinary Arts Level: Beginner – Intermediate This class will allow students to cultivate their creativity and knowledge. Starting with the basics, we will review kitchen rules and safety protocols, read a recipe, and learn essential cooking skills and fun techniques. Bring a container and binder for recipes each week. Age: 10 to 15 Years Location: Recreation Youth Centre & Sk8 Park

Babysitting Training Course

The Babysitting Training Course (Canada Safety Council) is designed to help teach youth skills and strategies to become a successful babysitter. Topics include: caring for children from 3 months to school-aged, behaviour management, handling emergencies, caring for a sick or injured child, prevention & basic first aid. Participants must attend all sessions and establish a passing grade of 75 percent on the final examination in order to receive their certificate. The Canada Safety Council recommends that the Babysitter Training Course be supplemented with First Aid and CPR training. Age: 12 to 16 Years Location: Recreation Youth Centre & Sk8 Park

Counsellor in Training Course

Are you interested in preparing to become a successful camp counsellor? In this course you will learn program planning, games and resources, behaviour management strategies and more. Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification included. This course includes a 6 week in class portion, plus a weekend for Standard First Aid and CPR-C (May 7/8), followed by a volunteer placement, for successful candidates, at a Town of Newmarket Summer Break Camp. Placements will be coordinated on site with the Program Instructor. Note: there are no prerequisites for this course. Age: 13 to 16 Years Location: Recreation Youth Centre & Sk8 Park

Home Alone Program

The Home Alone Program (Canada Safety Council) is designed to provide children 10 years of age and older with the necessary skills and knowledge to be safe and responsible when home alone for short periods of time. It will help them understand how to prevent problems, handle real-life situations, and keep them safe and constructively occupied. Age: 10 to 12 Years Location: Recreation Youth Centre & Sk8 Park

Inclusion CIT

Learn the basics of leadership training for inclusion programs such as: programming for individuals with special needs, how to adapt sports and games to include everyone and developing personal support skills. This program will include classroom instruction and placements within special needs programs. Certificates will be presented upon successful completion. Attendance is required to all classes. A rewarding way to gain volunteer hours and experience! Age: 12 to 19 Years Location: Recreation Youth Centre & Sk8 Park
