A Day at the Lake Just a few miles away is Derwentwater – one of the most iconic and picturesque lakes in the Lake District. This scenic lake has marinas for boat lovers and 10 miles of shoreline to relax and watch the world go by. Here are our 4 favorite ways to enjoy this magnificent lake.
1. The shore walk: Make a day of it and enjoy the scenic 9.5 mile walk around the lake shore or walk half way and hop on a lake cruise boat. 2. Island exploration: Hire a rowing boat or motorboat and explore the lake and its four islands. Children will love St Herbert Island, which is also ‘Owl Island’ in Beatrix Potter’s Squirrel Nutkin tale.

3. View from above: If you’re feeling energetic hike up Catbells on the western shore for a fabulous summit view of the lake – don’t forgot your flask and sandwiches! Surprise View at Ashness Bridge also offers a breathtaking view of the lake (no walking involved). 4. and relax.. After a day of walking and sailing enjoy afternoon tea or a traditional Lakeland ale at one of lakeside hotels or cafes. Try Lodore Falls hotel or the new café at the Theatre by the Lake in Keswick.
