NTE Energy to Develop Natural Gas-Fired Combined Cycle Facility in County
NC Jumps to No. 5 in CNBC’s ‘Top States for Business’ Rankings State vaults ahead four slots over previous year
NTE Energy announced today that it plans to develop, own and operate one of the most efficient, clean sources of capacity and energy in the Carolinas. The Reidsville Energy Center, located in Rockingham County, NC, will generate enough power to supply 450,000 homes and will represent an investment of over $450 million. The Reidsville Energy Center will utilize an advanced combustion turbine and a steam turbine in a combined cycle configuration. This highly efficient design captures exhaust heat from the combustion turbine and utilizes it in a steam cycle, allowing the facility to generate approximately 500 MW of clean and efficient electric power. “NTE is excited to work with Rockingham County and the surrounding communities, and looks forward to bringing clean, efficient and reliable power to the Carolinas,” said Michael Green, vice president of Development, NTE Energy. “This project represents a considerable investment in the community, providing many benefits to the residents of Rockingham County and
the state of North Carolina.” During the construction phase, the Reidsville Energy Center is expected to create approximately 300 construction industry jobs. The majority of construction jobs are expected to be filled by members of the local community. Upon completion, the project is slated to add approximately 15-25 full-time jobs to the Rockingham County area, most of which are expected to come from the local workforce. “Rockingham County is pleased that NTE Energy selected our community for its latest energy center. If the project comes to fruition, it will create good jobs and help increase our local tax base for many years to come,” said Craig Travis, chairman of the Rockingham County Board of Commissioners. “Our community appreciates the investment NTE Energy is looking to make in Reidsville and Rockingham County. Not only will the company provide stable jobs in a growing industry but its clean and efficient energy center will be a huge asset to Rockingham County and our entire state,” said Jan Critz, director of the
North Carolina Commerce Secretary John E. Skvarla, III recently announced that North Carolina is one of America’s top five states for business, according to the national business television network CNBC. The state’s number five ranking in the closely watched measurement marks a significant improvement over its 2015 performance, where it ranked ninth among the states. “Business leaders consistently recognize that North Carolina is an outstanding place to do business,” said Secretary Skvarla. “The CNBC ranking is just the latest example of our strength, highlighting the many competitive factors North Carolina offers companies so they can be successful.” CNBC’s Top States for Business award, now in its tenth year, ranks states against a range of criteria, such as the strength of the available workforce, cost of doing business, infrastructure, and the economy. The network notes its study is not an opinion survey but rather an
