The Charlie Poole Music Festival, happening in Eden, NC on June 12th and 13th, is planning a big celebration in honor of its 20th anniversary - dancing, jamming, watermelon-eating, river floating, and - as always - great music, to commemorate and carry forward the world-changing music of Charlie Poole! The highlight of the weekend will be the presentation of the highly respected Lifetime Achievement Award, this year to legendary guitarist Tony Rice. The award will be presented on Friday night, the concert night that has always featured some of the best performers, this year no different, with the following scheduled to go on stage: Katie Griffin and Friends - the festival has long been supportive of young people just beginning to hone their skills. Talented kids. Like Katie Griffin. Katie came to her first festival as a very young girl, and has blossomed into a beautiful and talented young lady. She is pursuing her dreams, fiddle in hand, as a student at East Tennessee State University, majoring in the wonderful traditional music she first encountered at the Charlie Poole Music Festival. Her fiddle instructor is Hunter Berry, fiddler for Rhonda Vincent’s band Katie Griffith The Rage. Katie has just released a new cd entitled “It’s a Lonesome Road.” We are proud to welcome her home to perform for us (along with some of the talented friends she has made along the way). Carolina Roustabouts - One of the groups that performed for the very first Charlie Poole Music Festival was the Carolina Roustabouts. Some of the members of this group have changed through the years, but the duo who form the nucleus has remained the same - Mr. George Underwood and Dr. Don Wright. How many people can claim that they have actually seen Charlie Poole in person? Well, George Underwood can. It will be worth coming just to hear his exciting recollection of this encounter. And Dr. Don Wright - even if you don’t know the name, you have probably heard his incredible banjo picking - he has performed and recorded with some of the big Carolina Roustabouts names in traditional
