Last Thursday, Year 6 were treated to a wonderful performance of 'Sister Act' by Crispin School at Strode Theatre. It was a wonderful show full of acting, singing and dancing and every element was produced by the students including set design, music and lighting. Amma said 'that it was really entertaining and exciting.' Poppy said that it was funny and Lexi said 'just watching it made you feel happy.' Riley said 'it wasn't good, it was brilliant.' Valentino said that it was really well made.
A reminder about this week’s Year 4 Parents’ Meeting about the Multiplication Check and how you can help your child’s learning. Mrs Rood will be running this informal session from 9am on Thursday (6th February). Please try to come along!
Last Wednesday, our Year 5 Mini-Police team got to visit the Custody Cells at Bridgwater Police Station. They arrested Mr Ranger for suspected kidnapping of the minibus and a group of pupils, and were then walked through the process of arrest, charging and detention. The team asked some fabulous questions and learned a lot about how the law works and the different roles of the custody team.
Huge thanks to Katie Moyse for organising the trip (and to Katie and Paul Lindsell for transporting pupils to Bridgwater in the police car) and to the Bridgwater Custody Team. The Mini-Police are scheduled to deliver a whole school assembly in March to talk us through their adventures so far.

As part of our eco-drive, St. Benedict’s has teamed up with Terracycle to wage war on the crisp packets we see littering our streets and playground. Please bring in your used crisp packets for recycling: we now have our first 1000 packets ready for collection! Well done to everyone who has brought in packets. The crisp monitors have asked that you empty packets out of carrier bags – thanks all!
New sports kit needed Our sports teams are busy playing teams from other schools and it’s just come to light that we haven’t had a new kit for a while – in fact tomorrow, when both the netball and football teams have fixtures at the same time, we are going to struggle to kit them out. Sports kits can be costly but we would like to continue to encourage the children’s interest in sport – we are very proud of all our teams and would love it if they could walk out onto the pitch/court with matching kit. We would appeal to any parents/carers, who run or are connected to a local business, to think about sponsoring our sporting youngsters and to get in touch with us. Not only would the company name be seen on the shirts and mentioned in our newsletter reports, but the children would have a new smart identity while playing for the school.
Looking for some family entertainment this February Half Term? Mrs Holt, our woodwind teacher, is directing the music for Somerton's Pantomime 'Aladdin' (oh yes she is!) and would love to see some familiar faces in the audience. The show runs from Friday 14th - Saturday 22ndFebruary and tickets are on sale now at Palmer Snell in Somerton.

STARS OF THE WEEK Brooklyn in Year 5 for his ‘Happy Face’ award for amazing work on his ‘Bendy Man’ crime report.
It has come to my attention that parking continues to be a problem. I would like to thank parents who are being patient and waiting for spaces to appear. May I also urge those parents who are blocking exits and entrances to the car park and leaving their engines idling as they wait, to consider their actions carefully – you are putting our pupils lives IN DANGER. I have contacted the police who will be monitoring the area and helping us to challenge parents whose actions are dangerous. To alleviate the traffic issues… why not consider other ways of getting to school – walking, riding bikes, scootering? The week ahead Monday

Theatre Performance
A local representative of Turning Point, a health and social care organisation offering support to people with complex needs leading to dependence and social exclusion, has notified us of a free performance for adults to be held at: The Assembly Rooms, Glastonbury – Thursday the 06th February from 7:30pm. The performance is described as a; “Hard Hitting Drama,” looking at how Alcohol is accepted socially and how it can affect those that use it excessively and dependently and the domino effect it can have on those around them. There will also be a Q&A following the performance with Turning Point staff who can offer; support, advice and guidance of how community Services can support all.
