THE EDGE HILL UNIVERSITY MEDICAL SCHOOL

Medical School The Edge Hill University Medical School will develop a new generation of doctors who understand the needs of local communities and can drive forward new models of care. Our Medical School will provide a distinctive undergraduate programme that will: -
Deliver excellent and innovative teaching and learning, including opportunities to work with students on other health and social care programmes and in simulated learning
-
Support students to enable them to develop and achieve, irrespective of their background
-
Provide both community and clinical experience early in the programme
-
Be connected with local communities, involving local service users (patients), carers and healthcare professionals
Funding for the Edge Hill University Medical School was announced in 2018 following a highly competitive process to allocate 1,500 additional places to train doctors in England. The new Medical School is one of only three free-standing medical schools in the country, and the only one in the North West. The undergraduate programme, which is currently in development, will complement the University’s well-established postgraduate medical provision. This new development will open the door to high-quality medical education and training in a subject area which is traditionally oversubscribed at undergraduate level. These new opportunities will mean aspiring doctors and medical professionals will experience our excellent facilities and beneďŹ t from small class sizes and the strength of the support we can offer.

THE EDGE HILL UNIVERSITY MEDICAL SCHOOL
The Edge Hill University Medical School will train undergraduate medical students from 2020 on a ďŹ ve-year MBChB degree. A Foundation Year for Medicine will be available from 2019, aimed at students from the North West of England who have the potential and aspiration to become doctors. The Foundation Year is for anyone who has studied the A levels required for entry onto the MBChB programme but whose background may mean they are less likely to meet all the academic requirements for direct entry onto the MBChB. Potential students must meet certain widening participation criteria to be eligible to apply. Full details regarding the entry criteria for the Foundation Year are available on our website ehu.ac.uk/medicalschool. Undergraduate medical education delivered by all universities is subject to a GMC approval process. The MBChB programme at Edge Hill University is due to complete the required stages of that process for September 2020 entry. The Edge Hill University Medical School also offers postgraduate programmes in medical and clinical areas, from our established portfolio, which includes: -
