Student Accommodation

2018

Disclaimer: The information in this brochure is correct at the time of publication (July 2017). However, all information is subject to amendment and/or approval by the Edge Hill Board of Governors, including halls of residence charges and payment dates. Due to the diversity of our Halls of Residence, please note that illustrated floor plans are indicative and room sizes and contents may vary.

Starting university means that you may be moving away from home for the first time. Aside from your course, where you choose to live will probably be one of the most important decisions you will make.

Our vibrant on-campus community provides new students with more than just a room. We offer you a safe and secure environment in which to live, study and socialise. Our students appreciate the supportive atmosphere that life in halls of residence offers.

Our halls of residence offer excellent value for money, and a range of rooms and catering packages are available depending on your requirements and budget. All rooms are fully maintained and the rent includes utility bills.

Living on-campus means you will find everything you need close by, including subject facilities, lecture theatres and seminar rooms, the Students’ Union, the University Library, IT resources, the Arts Centre, cafes, restaurants, laundry facilities and the Sports Centre.

The local area also offers a wide choice of off-campus accommodation. Many students live close to the University in Ormskirk, whilst others choose Liverpool or nearby towns such as Southport, all of which have good public transport links to Ormskirk.

Students who live off-campus can still take advantage of campus life. Whether it’s watching a film in the Studio Theatre, drama, comedy or live music performances at the Arts Centre, taking part in Students’ Union events or using the sports and fitness facilities.

The following pages offer you an outline of the halls of residence across our campus, and give you details of the rooms and packages available to help you decide on the type of accommodation that best suits you.

Welcome

Which accommodation is right for me?

On-campus Accommodation

Edge Hill currently has over 2,200 single study bedrooms available in halls of residence, all located across the Ormskirk campus. A small proportion of our rooms are provided on a catered basis while the remaining accommodation is self-catered.

Students living in catered halls of residence are issued with a Unicard, which is automatically loaded with a cash value, and can be used instead of money when purchasing food from the various on-campus catering outlets. However, students living here will also have access to a fully equipped kitchen.

If you live in a self-catered hall you will have access to a fully equipped kitchen which includes a cooker, microwave, fridge and freezer. A kettle, toaster, iron and ironing board are also provided. All kitchens have food lockers for personal use.

All rooms are furnished with a bed, wardrobe, desk and chair and you can personalise your space with posters, photos and other items. You will need to bring your own bed linen (including a duvet and pillows) and towels as well as crockery, cutlery, glassware, pots, pans and cooking utensils. Wireless enabled internet access is available, free of charge, in all halls of residence.

Students living on campus can take advantage of our range of accommodation packs, which include bedding, towels, utensils and crockery. To make your move as smooth as possible, any packs you order can be delivered to your room in time for your arrival. Visit store.edgehill.ac.uk and click on Accommodation in the product catalogue to see what’s available.

How much will it cost?

All halls are offered on a 40 week contract, running from September to late June. Prices for 2018 will range from £74 to £124 per week, including utility bills, depending on the halls of residence you choose. You will be expected to pay your damage deposit of £150 in full and your accommodation fees either in full or by scheduled instalments before your moving in date. Details of this will be sent with your Licence Agreement nearer to the time.

Off-campus accommodation

Another option for Edge Hill students in their first, second or third year of study, is living off-campus. Our Accommodation Team is available to provide advice and guidance when choosing private housing in the local area or nearby in Liverpool, Southport, Skelmersdale or Burscough.
