Welcome We are delighted to welcome you to Edge Hill University. Today’s Open Day will give you the chance to ﬁnd out about our range of courses and opportunities and look around our vibrant campus, which is amongst the best in British higher education. We would particularly recommend a visit to our latest milestones in an ongoing programme of campus developments, our new Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre, our Catalyst Building home to the Library, Learning Services, Student Services and Careers, and our state of the art Sports Centre facilities. View Our Accommodation We offer a wide range of accommodation options. Edge Hill University was named as having the best accommodation at the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2017 and has the best value student accommodation in the United Kingdom according to the National Student Housing Survey (NSHS) Awards 2019. The self-guided tour will help you explore our on-campus accommodation at your own pace. There is a Meeting Point set up for each halls of residence shown on the campus map (page 19). Look for the purple ďŹ&#x201A;ag and gazebo. From the Meeting Points students or University staff will direct you to see rooms, kitchens and common areas. If you need more directions along the way, please ask one of our friendly Student Guides wearing a purple tabard. The Student Accommodation brochure provides lots of useful information to help you select the accommodation that suits you best. Make sure you pick one up at registration. If you have questions for the Accommodation Team, you will ďŹ nd them in the foyer of the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Medicine building.

Student Experience Fair The Hub, Main Building Admissions, Fastrack Programmes and Equivalency Tests

Short-term Placements, Faculty of Arts and Sciences

Visit the Admissions team in room Hub 1 on the first floor of the main building. Staff are available to answer any questions regarding applications, entry requirements, interviews, equivalent qualifications and DBS checks. Staff can also provide information on our Fastrack and Access programmes.

A short-term placement usually takes place during the second year and can run over a number of weeks or months depending on the course requirements. Short-term placements are either compulsory or optional depending on the chosen course module and are unpaid. For students the aim is to gain work experience related to their studies and career pathways.

Careers Our Careers team can advise on the range of employment opportunities and career paths open to you with your degree choice. Find out how to enhance your employability through volunteering, placements, connecting with employers, part time work, Careers awards and funding opportunities – designed to help you develop your employability skills, experience and conﬁdence – and compete successfully for graduate employment opportunities and/or further study.

Sandwich Placements, Faculty of Arts and Sciences A sandwich placement is a year working in industry taken by students between the second and third year of a degree. For students, the aim is to build, develop and apply their skills as acquired through their degree in order to improve their employment prospects once they graduate.

Student Opportunities At Edge Hill University we provide a diverse set of events across the academic calendar to allow our students to thrive. These include activities during induction such as those linked to the Big Read as well as hundreds of extracurricular opportunities that help our students get the extra edge. Many of these activities are represented at today’s fair but visit us to ﬁnd out more about the opportunities we provide to help you gain extra academic, personal and professional skills.

Global Opportunities and Exchanges Speak to a member of our Global Opportunities Team about the range of exciting opportunities to study overseas at one of our partner universities around the world. Opportunities range from one week to a full academic year.

9 – 10 The Language Centre

Learning Services

Speak to someone in the Language Centre if your target degree is in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and you wish to study an optional module in a language (French, Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin, Italian or German). Extracurricular evening language classes are also offered to all students. Information about free English language support classes is available for students whose ﬁrst language is not English.

Learning Services incorporates Library services, Media and ICT support, Learning Technology Development (LTD), support with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) and academic study skills (UniSkills). Speak to our expert staff to find out about the direction, support and guidance we offer.

Edge Hill Students’ Union Everything we do at Edge Hill Students’ Union is shaped by our students, and is underpinned by our determination to help every student have the best experience while at University. Whether it’s through offering academic, housing, or welfare support via our Advice Team, or creating an exciting and diverse programme of events throughout the year, our Staff, student societies and sabbatical ofﬁcers are here to encourage, nurture, and support you throughout your university journey.

Edge Hill Sport The Sports Centre provides a wide range of sport and physical activities, both competitive (Team Edge Hill) and recreational (Campus Sport), as well as opportunities for volunteering or paid employment. Our facilities include a 25 metre swimming pool, an 80 station ﬁtness suite, 50 weekly classes, a sauna and steam suite and a double sports hall. Outdoors you will ﬁnd multiple ‘All Weather’ pitches, 5 grass pitches and an athletics track. So, whatever your level or motivation, Edge Hill Sport is the place for you. Please come and see us for a quick tour on the day.

The Arts Centre The Arts Centre is open to all Edge Hill University students and has an exciting mix of performances, ﬁlms, gigs, theatre, comedy and events throughout the year, as well as a great bar and café. As an Edge Hill University student you receive free tickets for The Arts Centre through our free EHU student membership scheme.

Health and Wellbeing Moving away from home or starting a new adventure can sometimes come with its own stresses and strains but the Health and Wellbeing team are here to support you. During your time at Edge Hill, you can beneﬁt from their support network including a 24 hour campus support service. Staff are able to provide advice and guidance throughout your time here on any mental or physical wellbeing concerns, general issues such as diet, exercise, local GP and dental services and access to other services such as counselling support.
