Introduction

Transferred to Part Time Study: A Guide for Students

The University’s Academic Regulations in relation to student progression are in place to ensure that no student is allowed to progress to the next level of study with an excessive amount of module credit not yet passed from a previous year. The Academic Regulations, which are not negotiable, are designed to ensure that no student is faced with an insurmountable challenge at the beginning of any level of their programme of study.

Due to the amount of module credits that you have outstanding, whether those modules are referred or deferred, the recent Progression Board has confirmed that you are not permitted to enrol to the next level with your current cohort in September 2017.

The recommendation of the Board is that you be transferred to part time study in order to re-take in full those modules that you have not yet passed (details of which are provided on the accompanying academic transcript).

Should you be successful in undertaking your outstanding modules during the 2017/18 academic session, you will be permitted to enrol onto the next level of study as a full time student in September 2018 for the 2018/19 academic session.

Attendance in 2017/18

Your part time status has been designed to keep you connected to Edge Hill whilst you complete your outstanding modules. Through being re-registered on the relevant modules, you will continue to have access to University facilities such as email, access to Blackboard and reassessment support.

You are expected to attend lectures and any other activity associated with the modules you are required to re-take in the same way as all students are required to. Should you be absent from any scheduled session, this will be recorded in the normal way and may result in the Faculty instigating their absence management procedures.

Assessment in 2017/18

Over the next week or so you will be required to meet with your Programme Leader to complete a Learning Agreement. This will identify any support needs that you may have and to arrange personal tutorial sessions. If you have not yet been contacted by your Faculty you must do so as soon as possible to complete the Learning Agreement.

When you meet with your Programme Leader to sign your Learning Agreement you will be provided with a module handbook and given details of submission deadlines for 2017/18. Your Programme Leader will set out your assessment schedule and confirm with you which lectures and tutorials you are expected to attend, including any module(s) which are no longer running in the new academic year.

It is extremely important that you are aware that you are required to complete each outstanding module in full, including those components that you may have previously passed. Your Programme Leader will confirm your assessment requirements for the year.

For those students whose module level decision includes the word ‘Referred’, should you successfully complete the module(s) you are re-taking during the 2017/18 academic session, your total module mark will be capped at 40%.

For any student who has been given a module level code of ‘Referred: Final Attempt’, it is extremely important that you note that completion of this module(s) is a requirement for you to complete your degree and failure to pass at the next assessment opportunity will lead to you being failed and withdrawn from your programme.

Financial Support If your Student Finance application has been approved, the University will notify Student Finance of your status. If you have not yet submitted an application, please complete an application as if you are progressing to your next year of study as soon as possible. Once approved, the University will amend your funding accordingly. Although you are transferring to part time study, you will still be eligible to full time funding.

The Fees, Scholarships and Bursaries Team are available to offer guidance regarding Student Finance for your Transferred to Part Time year. They can be contacted on TuitionFees@edgehill.ac.uk. They will also attend your enrolment session.

This year will be counted as a study year with Student Finance and included as part of your overall funding entitlement. Therefore, if you have additional study at Edge Hill University or elsewhere, prior to commencing your course, it is possible that your funding will not be granted by Student Finance and you will be required to self-fund your tuition fee for the year.

Students who are self-funding and not receiving any support through Student Finance can arrange to pay their fees in three instalments at no additional cost. You will be expected to set this up at enrolment. Standard Tuition Fee rate is ÂŁ77 per module credit. Student Finance Contact:

End of Year Results 2017/18

Your end of year results will be considered by a Progression Board in June 2018. The Board will consider your profile and make one of the following recommendations; • • •

If you are successful in undertaking all of your outstanding modules the Board will recommend that you be permitted to enrol onto the next level of study as a full time student in September 2018;

If your outstanding modules are coded as Referred: Final Attempt and you are not successful in repeating these, the Board will have no option but to fail you with no right of reassessment and withdraw you from the programme. However if your outstanding modules are coded Deferred or Referred and you are not successful in re-taking these modules during 2017/18, the Board will make a judgement on the most appropriate recommendation f or you at that stage and you will be advised accordingly.

Results will be published in July 2018; information on the method and date of publication will be issued to you by email to your university email account in December 2017.
