OFFERS

What’s the process? You are not holding any offers from universities you have applied to If you are not holding any offers (or none you wanted to accept) you will automatically be entered into Clearing and your UCAS Track status will state ‘You are in Clearing’ or ‘Clearing has started’. This could be as early as 5th July when Clearing opens. You have not had your place confirmed after exam results are published If you have not had your place confirmed after exam results are published because your grades were not quite as expected you will automatically be entered into Clearing and your UCAS Track status will state ‘You are in Clearing’ or ‘Clearing has started’. This will happen on Results Day 15th August. If Track does not say either of these things it may be waiting for your results to update and universities may still be considering your application, even if your results are a bit lower than required.

You want to change your mind about where or what you are going to study (also called Adjustment) If your results are better than expected, you may be in a position to consider studying elsewhere, or even a different subject if you have the necessary entry requirements. Adjustment begins whenever your conditional firm (CF) changes to an unconditional firm (UF) and lasts for five consecutive days if you choose to register for this option. Please check you are eligible for Adjustment before submitting on UCAS Track to ensure you can hold on to your UF offer. You have not yet applied for a university place for 2019 entry but would like to be considered If you have not yet applied to university through UCAS but would like to start university in September 2019 then we can still consider you for a place through Clearing. You can register with UCAS first and make an application. You’ll receive a welcome email with details of how to access Track and your Clearing number and you can add a choice once you have submitted the application. Or you can contact us directly on our Clearing and Confirmation Helpline on 0800 028 66 77 and if we can offer you a place we will provide guidance on how to get your place confirmed with UCAS.

Clearing and Results Day – Check List Whatever your situation on Results Day, if you want to enter any aspect of Clearing, Adjustment, or you just want to Confirm your place you should prepare in advance with a few details to make sure you have all the information you need to hand. Before the day: Check Clearing vacancies which are listed from 5th July if you want to see in advance what is available and the grades required. Make a short list of the universities and courses you are interested in. And their clearing numbers. Check your contact details are up-to-date on UCAS. Have your sign in and UCAS Track details ready and available. Book time off work or other activities on results day as universities can’t speak to anyone on your behalf. If you are unavailable or abroad you may need to arrange nominated access. Check how you will receive your exam results from school or college. Most are sent direct to UCAS and will be sent on to your university choices, but if not you will need to send them on yourself.

On the day: Keep calm and don’t panic. Find a quiet place to make phone calls. Have all the relevant information to hand, including the names of courses you are interested in, your grades and UCAS number. Have a list of pre-prepared questions to ask such as will there be any accommodation available, are there work placements or sandwich years available. Ask about opportunities to visit the campus before making a ďŹ nal decision.

Clearing Explained: A-Z Adjustment: On results day, if you have met or exceeded the requirements for your conditional offers then you can use the UCAS Adjustment service. You may be able to get on a different course at an alternative university with higher entry requirements – while still holding your original confirmed place. Admissions: The department within Edge Hill University that deals with applications and decision-making on applications. Apply: The name of the UCAS online application system. Applicant Number: A ten digit number assigned by UCAS. Sometimes referred to as UCAS ID. Campus Tour: Not an official open day but a chance to look round university buildings and facilities. There may not be an opportunity to ask subject related questions. See also Open days.

Campus University: A university situated on one dedicated site, with student accommodation, teaching and research facilities, and leisure activities all together, like Edge Hill University. Changed Course Offer: You might get one of these if you haven’t met the conditions of the offer you accepted. It might involve a different start date or a different course altogether. Clearing: Clearing is the system that operates after A Level results are published. It allows prospective students without a university place to apply for courses at universities where there are still vacancies. Conditional Offer: The offer of a place on a course, which is dependent on certain conditions being met, for example, achieving certain grades or medical clearance. Deferred entry: If you apply for a place but request to start the following year. If you are taking a Gap Year you may want to consider this option.

Extra: Extra is a UCAS service you can use to apply for alternative places if you do not hold an offer from your first five choices. Firm choice: The university you accept as your first choice following your UCAS application. Gap Year: A year away from education before going to university. You may want to use the time to travel or to gain work experience and additional qualifications. Higher Education (HE): The level of education that involves undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Insurance choice: The university you accept as your backup choice following your UCAS application. Offer: An official offer of a place on a course from Edge Hill University. This can be conditional or unconditional. Open days: The university is open to those considering an application. The day includes campus tours, subject talks, accommodation tours and finance talks and the chance to ask questions.

Prospectus: Guides produced by individual universities detailing the unique information about that university and the courses it offers. Also available online via our website at edgehill.ac.uk/study Tariff: The points system for entry into higher education. Some offers of places are expressed in terms of a tariff point score rather than grades. Track: The UCAS online system that allows applications to check the status of their application. UCAS: Universities and Colleges Admissions Service. This is the organisation that handles nearly all university applications. Unconditional Offer: The offer made by the admissions team which does not depend on reaching certain targets. Often used when a student has already taken their exams and achieved the required grades.
