Enrolment Enrolment is a mandatory process that you must go through at the beginning of the year to become a member of the University, activate your IT/Library account and benefit from all its services.

The enrolment process for new part-time undergraduate students consists of one stage which requires you to attend in person to fully enrol and provide the University with proof of your identification. Visit edgehill.ac.uk/gettingstarted/part-time to see your enrolment timetable, and you should refer to page 5 to find out what documents you need to bring with you.

The enrolment process for new full-time undergraduate students consists of two stages. The first stage is an online enrolment process for which you can find details below, followed by stage two which requires you to attend in person to fully enrol and provide the University with proof of your identity. 1. To access the online enrolment system, please follow the instructions provided in the letter that was posted to you with this guide.

2. The first screen will show your basic information, personal details and programme information. Click on ‘Next’. If any of the information on this page is incorrect, please get in touch with the Enrolment Team by calling 01695 657600 or emailing enrolment@edgehill.ac.uk. 3. The next screen you will be asked to supply a home address and a term address if different from your home address. Enter your details and click on ‘Next’.

4. The next screen will ask you to supply the details of at least one emergency contact. Click on ‘Add New’ to enter the details. To move to the next screen click ‘Next’

5. This screen is used to collect additional information and there is a drop-down menu for each question. When you have completed this page click on ‘Next’.

6. The next screen will ask you to upload a photograph of yourself, which will be used on your Unicard. Uploading a photograph is strongly advised as it will reduce the time it takes to finalise your enrolment at stage two. Please read all the details shown on the screen to ensure your photograph is within the guidelines. Please visit edgehill.ac.uk/gettingstarted/unicard-photo for more detailed information on how to upload a photograph. Please note that it will be easier if you have the photograph ready before you begin the online enrolment process, and once you submit your photograph you will not be able to edit it.

8. Finally, you will be asked to read and accept the Terms and Conditions of Edge Hill University. You will be asked to read the Student Data Collection Notice and tick to accept responsibility for the payment of your tuition fees. Stage one of enrolment is now complete. You will now receive an email which will go to your Edge Hill email account this will contain details of stage two of enrolment. This can be accessed via ‘GO’ on the web link: go.edgehill.ac.uk/mail.

Check your Enrolment Timetable Your timetable for stage two of enrolment is available now at edgehill.ac.uk/gettingstarted. Select your course from the drop-down menu and click on ‘Enrolment’ to view your timetable. You must bring the following documents with you to enrol: UK Students

7. The next screen allows you to review the information you have entered. You can amend the details using the ‘Previous’ button, and press ‘Submit’ when you have finished.


Money Matters Now is the time to make sure that all your loans and grants are in place for your studies. This will ensure that you receive your funding on time and your transition to University life runs smoothly.

Applying for student finance If you have not yet applied for student finance, you should apply online at www.gov.uk/student-finance this should be done as soon as possible. Evidence of your application/assessment will be required when you enrol on course. Assessment of Funding Once you have completed your application you will receive an assessment of the funding available to you. This can take some time to process and you should check on the progress of your application. Please ensure that all of your details are correct, this includes: • • •

When will I receive my funding? After you have completed your enrolment in full, your student funding will be released. It can take up to five working days for payment to arrive in your account, or longer, if you applied for funding late. But remember, this will only be paid if your signed Declaration has been returned to Student Finance. Please ensure that you bring your University/College Payment advice (contained in the pack you receive from Student Finance) with you when you enrol. This contains your Student Support Number, which the University needs to identify you with the Student Loans Company. NHS Funded Students Must apply for an NHS bursary to cover their tuition fees and any grants/allowances. Please visit www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/students. You must bring a copy of your ‘NHS Notification of Award to enrolment.

Scholarships There are a range of Edge Hill Scholarships available which reward excellence outside your studies or make a contribution to the University. Please view our website edgehill.ac.uk/scholarships. If you have any questions about student finance, contact the Financial Advice Team by emailing financialadviceteam@edgehill.ac.uk.

Return your Declaration If you applied online, you will receive a ‘Declaration’ form from Student Finance in the post. You need to return your signed Declaration as soon as possible in order to make sure your funding is released to you following enrolment.

If you have received a place in our on-campus halls of residence, there are a few things you need to take care of before you can move in. Getting the paperwork and financial arrangements out of the way before you arrive will make your Welcome Sunday as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. You should have received an email from our Accommodation Team to confirm your room and provide you with your Licence Agreement. You must sign your Licence Agreement and return it to the Accommodation Office as soon as possible to confirm your room. You will also need to pay your £150 deposit to secure your room and make arrangements to pay for your accommodation before Welcome Sunday, otherwise your room key will not be issued. You can move into halls on Sunday 21 September 2014, or Welcome Sunday as we call it. You’ll find more information about arrival arrangements for this day on page 16 but you should put the date in your calendar in the meantime.

Get ready for First Week Starting University is an exciting time. First Week is all about settling into your academic and social environment, meeting your tutors, making friends and generally finding your way around. As well as providing an introduction to your course, there will be opportunities to find out how to make best use of the Library and IT systems, and the full range of student support services available to you. First Week runs from Monday 22 to Friday 26 September 2014.

Your Faculty will organise your First Week programme for your course. First Week is a living and learning experience and comprises a series of activities to welcome you to the University and to introduce you to your academic life. Please note that First Week is compulsory for all students and the most important thing is that you participate fully and have a good time. You are required to attend all your course-based sessions, but which social activities you choose, is up to you. First Week Timetable Full-time students To view and print your First Week timetable, visit edgehill.ac.uk/gettingstarted, select your course from the drop-down menu and click ‘First Week’ from the list on the left. Part-time students For students based in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, there is a full programme of activities and you are advised to attend as much of First Week as possible. Arrival and Enrolment (residential students) Welcome Sunday is our designated day for residential students to arrive on campus, enrol and move into accommodation. It’s a very busy day on campus so, to ensure your day runs as smoothly as possible, please follow the instructions outlined in this section. Before you arrive There are a few things that you can do in advance of Welcome Sunday to make sure your arrival at Edge Hill runs smoothly. • • • • • •

Arriving at Edge Hill Once you arrive at Edge Hill, you will be able to complete stage two of enrolment for your programme and collect the keys to your accommodation before settling into your new home and meeting your flatmates.

Welcome Sunday takes place on Sunday 21 September 2014. Unfortunately, you are not able to arrive on campus any earlier than this date. If you are unable to arrive until after 4.00pm on Welcome Sunday or not until the following week, please contact the Accommodation Team on: accommodation@edgehill.ac.uk for advice.

In order to reduce congestion, we have staggered student arrival times alphabetically by surname. Please try and keep to your scheduled arrival time as much as possible to avoid congestion on the day.

Travelling to Welcome Sunday Whether you are travelling to Welcome Sunday by car or public transport, there are arrangements in place to make the move as easy as possible. Arriving by Car

Please note, car parking on campus is limited.

On Welcome Sunday you may bring one car on campus (no vans please) and you will be directed to a parking space. To avoid traffic congestion, there is a maximum 2 hour time limit on parking to allow you to unload your car and unpack.

After this time we request that you move your car to allow other students the opportunity to park and move in. You will be directed to alternative parking in nearby Ormskirk town centre and there is a free bus service from Ormskirk Bus Station to and from the University, running every 15 minutes from 7.30am until 6.30pm. For information about how to find us, visit: edgehill.ac.uk/location.

Please note that Yellow AA™ road signage will be displayed on the approach to the campus. Please follow these directional signs to the designated entrance for your halls, as GPS systems may lead you to the incorrect entrance point.

What happens next? Once you have parked, you must leave your belongings in the car, and make your way to the Faculty of Health and Social Care on foot to complete your enrolment process and collect your room key. When you have completed this process you will be issued with your ‘Unicard’ (your Edge Hill student ID card) and you will be directed back to unload your car and move into halls.

When you arrive please go to the nearest Welcome Point, where staff will arrange transport for you. Please see our Campus Map at the back of this booklet to find out where you will need to go.

Arriving by Public Transport You can find out more about arriving at Edge Hill by public transport, including directions for bus or rail travel at edgehill.ac.uk/location. Please see the map of Ormskirk town centre at edgehill.ac.uk/getting started under the ‘Arrivals’ tab. and our Campus Map at the back of this booklet to find out where you will need to travel on and off campus.

On Welcome Sunday, our free Edge Link bus runs from Ormskirk Bus Station to the University every 15 minutes from 7.30am until 6.30pm. The Edge Link bus will drop you off near the main entrance to the University. From here, you should make your way to the Senior Common Room in the Main Building where there is a secure luggage facility for students arriving by public transport. You are able to leave your bags in this safe spot while you enrol and collect your room keys.

After dropping off your bags, you must then make your way to the Faculty of Health and Social Care to complete your enrolment and key collection. Once you have completed your enrolment, you will be directed back to the Senior Common Room to collect your belongings and move into your new home.

Please note more information regarding stage one of the enrolment process will be sent to all new full-time undergraduate students in early September or at the point a students’ offer status become unconditional, if this is later.

Once you arrive

Enrolment for residential students on Welcome Sunday 21 September The enrolment process for new full-time undergraduate students consists of two stages. The first stage is the online enrolment process which should be completed seven fays before you attend Stage Two (please see page 4 for more details). This is followed by stage two which you will complete in person on Welcome Sunday to fully enrol and provide the University with proof of your identity (see page 5). You are required to complete stage two of the enrolment process at the time specified on your enrolment timetable which can be found at edgehill.ac.uk/getingstarted. Please note, you will not be fully enrolled until you have completed both stages of enrolment.


Accommodation Fees There are a few things you need to take care of before you can collect your keys.

You must pay your £150 deposit in full and either set up a payment plan for your accommodation fees or pay in full before arrival on Welcome Sunday. Otherwise, the Accommodation Team will be unable to issue you with your room key.

*Most students pay in this way as it coincides with student loan payments.

Moving in Once you have completed your enrolment and key collection, you will be directed back to your car or the Senior Common Room to collect your belongings and move into your new accommodation.

Due to car parking limitations, your car must remain in your designated car park. It is not possible to move it closer to your Halls of Residence to drop off your belongings. Important: You are advised to pack your belongings in crates and suitcases with wheels and to avoid packing large heavy boxes that you will find difficult to carry. There is a limited supply of trolleys and buggies available to help you transport your belongings. Please speak to a member of staff for assistance.

Please note that you may be required to walk some distance from the car park to your halls of residence. If you require assistance or have mobility requirements please contact fmhelpdesk@edgehill.ac.uk or 01695 584455 for advice. When you arrive please go to the nearest Welcome Point, where staff will arrange transport for you.

Meet staff within your Department Once you have collected your room key and moved your belongings in, you must attend your compulsory meeting with staff from your programme area, in the Business School, between 2.00pm and 5.00pm. This is a great way to meet your tutors and fellow students on your programme and to pick up a copy of your First Week timetable. There will also be an opportunity during this time to meet the Inclusion team in the Business School. The team can provide advice on Disabled Students Allowance (DSA), Learning Facilitators, reasonable adjustments, examination modifications and alternative assessments, adapted rooms on campus and rights and responsibilities.

Hall Welcome Talks Once you have settled in and said goodbye to your friends and family, you must attend your compulsory Hall Welcome Talk. This will give you an introduction to your new home, campus facilities and the rules and regulations for students living on campus.

It is essential that you attend your Hall Talk, details of which can be found on the following page.

Frequently Asked Questions about Welcome Sunday

What happens when I arrive and where do I collect my keys? Once you have parked, you must leave your belongings in the car, or if you are travelling by public transport, in the Staff Common Room. Please follow directions to the Faculty of Health and Social Care to complete your enrolment/key collection process. When you have completed this process you will be issued with your ‘Unicard’ (student ID card) and you will be directed back to unload your car, or collect your belongings and move in.

Is there anywhere that my family can wait while I enrol? Yes, there will be a Family Area in the Faculty of Health and Social Care with complimentary tea or coffee and newspapers. Your family are welcome to use this as a meeting point during the day or somewhere to relax.

What should I do if there is a problem with my room? If there is an issue with your room please contact the FM Helpdesk on 01695 584455. The FM Helpdesk will be available throughout the day, and during your time at University. The FM Helpdesk is based in the Durning Centre, behind Edge Hill Sport. Can I bring my car with me to campus during term time? No – students living in halls of residence are not permitted to keep a car on campus. If you need a car to travel to your placement, you can apply for a temporary permit to cover this period by contacting Facilities Management: fmhelpdesk@edgehill.ac.uk for advice.

Yes – Blue Badge holders can park on campus without a permit. Disabled students without a Blue Badge who need to keep a car on campus should contact parking@edgehill.ac.uk for advice.

Arrival and Enrolment (non-residential students) Your enrolment timetable is available now at edgehill.ac.uk/gettingstarted. Select your course and go to the ‘Enrolment’ tab. Please note the enrolment process for new full-time undergraduate students consists of two stages. The first stage is the online process, which is followed by stage two which requires you to attend in person at the time specified in your enrolment timetable. Students should complete the online process at least seven days prior to the time specified in your enrolment timetable. All students are required to provide proof of identification at enrolment as specified on page 5 of this booklet. Admissions If you have met all the academic conditions of your offer, your offer status will show as Unconditional (UF) on UCAS, giving you the green light for enrolment. However, if you still have outstanding conditions to meet you can find further information on your next steps below.

All students: If there are other outstanding conditions associated with your offer of a place, such as medical or DBS clearance, you will be able to provisionally enrol and you should attend your enrolment session and other First Week activities as indicated. However, you will be expected to meet any outstanding requirements promptly and you could be withdrawn from your course if these conditions are not satisfied as soon as possible. You will also be unable to undertake any placement activity without medical or DBS clearance. Clearing Students: If you have been made an offer through Clearing you should carefully read the instructions you have received from Admissions and ensure that you comply with any conditions or deadlines set. Failure to do so could mean that you will be unable to enrol.

Meet staff within your Department (Applicable to enrolments on Thursday 18 September only) Once you have enrolled, you must attend your compulsory meeting with staff from your programme area, in the Business School. This is a great way to meet your tutors and fellow students on your programme and to pick up a copy of your First Week timetable.

If you need to come to your enrolment session by car, a ‘Temporary Parking Permit’ is available with this booklet. You must display this on your dashboard as you enter the campus via the main entrance. You will be directed to the nearest available space, if any are available. We must emphasise that we are not in a position to guarantee that parking spaces will be available. Following enrolment you will be required to apply for an official parking permit online and further instructions will be provided to you. Campus Life Sustainable Travel Edge Hill University encourages staff, students and visitors to travel here by sustainable means wherever possible and has developed a Travel Plan to include various sustainable travel initiatives. The University provides a free shuttle bus to link the campus to Ormskirk town centre, where other public transport options are available. For further information please visit edgehill.ac.uk/travel. Parking Permits Parking is limited at Edge Hill University and only available to parking permit holders. Eligibility criteria applies for all parking permit applications and full details are available in our Car Parking Policy at: edgehill.ac.uk/travel.

If you are a student coming to study at Edge Hill for the first time, you will need to formally enrol on your course and receive your student number before you can apply for your official permit. Prior to your enrolment day, you will be supplied with a temporary parking permit to allow you access to the campus to complete your enrolment. Following enrolment you will be directed to apply for your parking permit online.

If you are eligible, a blue student parking permit will be provided which will allow you to park in the Blue Zone i.e. the main car park. Other car parks are reserved for staff and visitors. Residential students are not permitted to keep their cars on campus unless studying on a course which requires them to undertake a placement.

We provide a student mail delivery service to the mail boxes located in all Halls of Residence. We also provide a parcel collection service where students are notified of a delivery via email. The Post Room is located in The Durning Centre and is open for parcel collections at the following times: Monday to Thursday: 8.00am – 10.00am, 12.00pm – 1.00pm and 5.00pm – 8.00pm. Friday: 8.00am – 10.00am and 12.00pm – 1.00pm. Out of term time, reduced opening hours may apply.

Catering Whether it’s a quick coffee and a catch up, lunch between lectures or a late night treat, you are sure to find just what your taste buds are looking for from our wide selection of on-site coffee bars, cafés, diner and restaurant. All dining outlets at Edge Hill University have social spaces in which to eat and study as well as free wireless internet access.

If you are living on campus you can also take advantage of the meal plan scheme, or if you are self-catering, the University shops stock all essential items you could need.

Retail There is an on-site McColls convenience store and the University Shop, both of which sell food, drink, stationery and household items to cater for our residential students.

Launderette Our on-site launderette houses nineteen automatic washing machines and twenty dryers. The opening times are 7.30am to 9.00pm every day, with the last wash being at 8.00pm.

Nearby: Liverpool ONE is the perfect place to treat yourself, catch a flick or enjoy something to eat. They even have an ice skating rink as part of their Christmas celebrations.

Southport Beach is a great spot for a picnic and a kick around on a sunny day.

Disraeli's do great offers on food and drink. It's a great place to book a table for birthdays or just a nice chilled meal with friends. The Ropers Arms on Wigan Road do a weekly pub quiz. Edge Link Bus The University operates the free Edge Link bus service between the Campus and Ormskirk bus station every twenty minutes from 8.05am until 8.56pm, Monday to Friday excluding Bank Holidays, and 8.05am until 5.56pm on Saturdays. The service is free on production on a valid Unicard.

Parking on campus The University recognises the need to reduce pollution and congestion by minimising the reliance on cars and promoting the benefits of sustainable travel. Residential students are not permitted to bring cars on campus unless this is necessary during placement activities, and commuting students are advised to use public transport whenever possible.

If you do need to use your car, a valid permit must be displayed to park. You will be able to seek advice and apply for a permit during First Week.
