Campus Learning Spaces Our campus is designed around you, the student. You have access to spaces and facilities for your individual learning, working with your peers on projects, or simply relaxing and socialising. The Catalyst building offers a broad range of work environments from informal spaces for collaborative working to individual workspaces including bookable group rooms with presentation facilities, as well as workshops and training rooms. Wi-Fi is available across the campus and computers are available in all subject buildings, 24/7 in some areas.

The University Library, housed in the Catalyst building, gives access to books, e-resources and multimedia, and is open 24/7 during the academic year. In addition you can access PCs, laptops, software and assistive technologies. There are extensive social learning areas and study spaces in Catalyst. Edge Hill University offers an inspiring campus environment, with 24-hour security. New students in particular appreciate the supportive, sociable and welcoming atmosphere that life in halls of residence offers.

Halls of Residence Our on-campus halls of residence provide nearly 2,500 single study bedrooms. As a campus-based university you’ll find that everything you need is within a few minutes’ walk, including academic buildings, lecture theatres, seminar rooms, specialist facilities, the University Library, IT resources, cafés and restaurants, shops, launderette, and our on-campus sports centre, theatres and cinema. Contracts for halls of residence are for 40 weeks and students are not required to move out at Christmas or Easter. Our accommodation offers exceptional value and a range of living environments. Free wireless internet access is available in all halls of residence and across the campus. All new students can enjoy four weeks of free trial access to Edge Hill Sport before deciding whether to take up one of the low-cost membership packages. This includes use of the Fitness Suite, exercise classes, swimming pool, sauna, and steam rooms, badminton courts, tennis courts and running track.

Edge Hill currently has 12 rooms adapted for disabled students, but sometimes demand exceeds the number of rooms available. Please indicate any additional needs you may have on your accommodation application form and we will do our best to meet your needs.

How to Apply for Accommodation Once you have accepted your place at Edge Hill University you will be sent details of how to apply for on campus accommodation. All International students are guaranteed on campus accommodation for the duration of their studies if they apply before 26th July 2019. You will be required to make a deposit payment towards your accommodation of ÂŁ1,000. NB: For Tier 4 students this money will be taken into consideration as part of your maintenance funds when submitting your Visa application to the UKVI and will be noted on your CAS

The Student Experience

Entertainment and Culture We offer you a wealth of opportunities to experience arts and culture on campus and beyond. The Arts Centre is a hub of cultural activity at the University and our year-round programme features high profile comedy, music and performance, cutting-edge professional theatre and dance, as well as a diverse programme of films including National Theatre and RSC Live productions. Every student can join The Arts Centre membership scheme for free and this brings benefits including free tickets throughout the year. Leading figures from the arts and creative industries, science and politics are regular visitors to the campus, delivering talks and events that are free to students. The University has also developed strong and ongoing partnerships with theatres, galleries and festivals in the North West, and you will enjoy being able to access a whole host of cultural experiences.

Edge Hill University offers 60 acres of outstanding sport and leisure facilities and provides a focus for all sports, fitness and leisure activities on campus, regardless of your sporting motivations. Whether you are an elite athlete training for international competition, want to compete in the University sports clubs regionally and nationally in the British Universities and College Sport (BUCS) leagues; play recreational sport for fun or just want to keep fit and healthy, you will have the opportunity to participate in sport and recreation at every level. The Campus Sport programme offers both competitive leagues and introductory activities and our extensive fitness programme covers everything from yoga to Pilates, to high impact, intense aerobic sessions. There are also opportunities to gain employment skills within the Campus Sport volunteering programme, some in a paid capacity. Every new student will be able to take advantage of four weeks of free trial access to Edge Hill Sport including the Fitness Suite, exercise classes, swimming pool, sauna and steam rooms, badminton courts, tennis courts and running track. After the trial period ends, students have a choice of low-cost membership packages available to choose from.

Students’ Union Everything we do at Edge Hill Students’ Union is shaped by our students, and you will automatically become a member when you enrol at the University. Our mission is to ensure Edge Hill voices are heard, valued and acted upon, and our vision is to create the best student experience we can. To achieve this, we seek out your ideas, thoughts, and feedback, and develop campaigns to highlight the issues important to our students, creating positive outcomes. Every year our students elect a team of Sabbatical Officers to represent the student voice on University committees and boards, and to run campaigns and events, supported by professional staff and part-time elected officers. Over the past few years, Edge Hill Students’ Union has grown rapidly, and offers some crucial services for Edge Hill Students.

Advice and Representation Our Advice Centre offers support and guidance in areas such as academic issues, welfare benefits, housing, money and debt. We are independent from the University and our advice is impartial, confidential and free to students. Student Reps are also an integral part of democracy and representation, ensuring all students’ voices are heard, at course or faculty level and can offer an opportunity to enhance your employability and transferable skills.

SU Bar, VENUE, SU Shop and SUBWAY We organise a calendar of events throughout the year, including Welcome Week activities. Our GIVE IT A GO! booklet, issued termly, lists all the things happening around campus, from Crafternoons and breakfast raves, to vintage clothing sales and Bongo’s Bingo as well as talks, workshops and personal development courses. We host weekly events in the SU Bar and VENUE, our nightclub. The SU Bar serves fresh food cooked to order and we also run a takeaway service and SUBWAY™ is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Get essential information about Edge Hill and the local area before you arrive? If you answered yes to the questions above then you should apply for the Global Friends scheme! Incoming international students are put in contact with a current student who will answer any questions you have before you arrive in the UK. Once you arrive, your partner will meet up with you on a regular basis helping you to integrate and meet new UK students. At Edge Hill, living costs tend to be more affordable than many other places in the UK. The amount you spend on accommodation, food and social expenses will depend on your personal choice and circumstances. However the table below aims to show the estimated costs you can expect whilst living and studying here.

Edge Hill University has a range of scholarships on offer to international students. All full fee-paying international students applying for a course lasting at least one academic year will be considered for a scholarship. English Language Courses International Foundation Programme

Graduate Diploma Pre-Masters Programme

1 academic year, full time

The International Foundation Programme (IFP) has been specifically developed for International Students who would like to study for an undergraduate degree, but donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have the relevant qualifications or English language ability, or are returning to study after a break.

This programme provides an entry route for international students onto selected one-year, full-time Edge Hill University Masters awards. It provides an opportunity for those without the standard entry requirements to achieve a Graduate Diploma and develop the academic and English language skills, subject-specific knowledge and core research techniques required for postgraduate study.

If you would like to improve your English Language skills and academic ability, or have recently finished your studies in high school (equivalent to British AS-level, or Year 12), then this course will give you the knowledge, skills and confidence to start a degree course. If the International Foundation Programme is completed successfully, your English Language ability will be at least IELTS 6.0, enabling you to progress to degree study in a wide range of areas, including a guaranteed place on an Edge Hill degree programme.

When Should I Apply?

How to Apply As early as possible, even if you do not have your final results or all required certificates and transcripts in hand. You must allow a minimum of two months between your application and your arrival and enrolment at Edge Hill University.

Most international students coming to study at Edge Hill University will need to apply for a Tier 4 student visa. A Tier 4 visa allows international students to study at the educational institution stated on their visa, for the duration of their course with limited working hours.

Immigration Matters

Working in the UK Many international students will be able to work part-time whilst studying at Edge Hill. However, even for those that are allowed to work, there are restrictions on the type and the number of hours you can work which will be stated on your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP).
