Welcome I am delighted to welcome you to Edge Hill University. Today’s Open Day will give you the chance to find out about our range of courses and opportunities and look around our vibrant campus, which is amongst the best in British higher education. I would particularly recommend a visit to the latest milestone in a £250m programme of campus development, our new state of the art Sports Centre facilities.

VIEW OUR ACCOMMODATION At Edge Hill University we offer a wide range of accommodation options. The self-guided tour option will help you explore our on campus accommodation at your own pace. There is a Meeting Point set up for each halls of residence shown on the campus map (page 19). Look for the purple flag and gazebo. From the Meeting Points students or University staff will direct you to see rooms, kitchens and common areas. If you need more directions along the way, please ask one of our friendly Student Guides wearing a purple tabard. The Student Accommodation brochure 2017 provides lots of useful information to help you select the accommodation that suits you best. Make sure you pick one up at registration. If you have questions for the Accommodation Team, you will find them in the foyer of the Faculty of Health and Social Care building. Guided tours are also available throughout the day. Tours will depart from the lower ground floor in the Faculty of Health and Social Care. Tours last 45 minutes and the last tour will leave at 2.30pm. Please refer to the campus map on page 19.

Advisers are available for you to find out about: Accommodation On and off campus options, how to apply. Student Fees and Finance Tuition fees, loans, bursaries, the application process and money advice. Scholarships What is available for prospective and current students, the awarding and application process. Inclusion Team Support with a range of additional needs, such as medical conditions, visual/hearing/mobility impairments, Aspergers, Autism, mental health and specific learning difficulties. Space is available for confidential discussions. Multi-Faith Chaplaincy Pastoral guidance, prayer, making friends and community links. Health and Wellbeing The Student Wellbeing team provides a arrange of support on all areas relating to mental health and wellbeing. The team takes a proactive approach, working closely with Counselling and other Student Services teams, to deliver a holistic wellbeing experience for all students.

Speak to a range of advisers about opportunities that will enhance your employability as well as making your time at university as memorable as possible. Find out about: Careers Centre Where does your degree lead, volunteering and part-time work, employability planning. Sandwich Placements, Faculty of Arts and Sciences A sandwich placement is a year working in industry taken by students between the second and third year of a degree. Sandwich placements typically last for 48 weeks running from September to August of a given year. For students, the aim is to build, develop and apply their skills as acquired through their degree in order to improve their employment prospects once they graduate. Edge Hill Students’ Union Edge Hill Students’ Union is a member-driven organisation, representing all students who attend Edge Hill University. STUDENT LIFE FAIR Study Abroad and Language Opportunities Speak to a member of staff from the Study Abroad team about the exciting opportunities to study or work abroad as part of your degree. Information is also available on our new Language Centre where you can develop your language skills whether English is your first language or not. Learning Services Learning Services incorporates Library Services, Media and ICT support, Inclusive Services and support for SpLD, Academic skills and Learning Technology Development. Speak to our expert staff to find out about the direction, support and guidance the Learning Services team can offer. The Arts Centre What’s on, student productions, discounts for students. The Arts Centre and the bar/bistro is open to all students and has a mixed programme of events including theatre, comedy, film and open mic. The Record Label The Label Recordings is the UK’s only not-for-profit university record label, which has been set up by the University to promote existing new music and to give students eyeing-up a career in the competitive industry some real hands-on experience. You can direct a music video, you can work in A&R, you can package a sleeve, you can organise a club night, book the band and promote it. It’s a way to become an insider and get a flavour of what all the people behind the scenes really do.

Get help during the day
Information Points Each building in use during the Open Day will have an Information Point, with friendly members of staff who can help with your programme, direct you around campus and help in the event of an emergency.
Student Guides Student Guides are easily spotted in their bright purple tabards and are happy to help with anything to make your Open Day visit run smoothly. Don’t forget to ask them about their Edge Hill experience.
Housekeeping and Emergency Procedures Fire Alarms On hearing the fire alarm leave the building by the nearest available exit and assemble as directed by staff and Student Guides. Do not return to the building until advised it is safe to do so.
Illness or Injury In case of illness or injury please go to the nearest Information Point or the Registration area. Staff will be able to arrange first aid assistance and will call for an ambulance if required. Please report any injuries to staff at Information Points or in the Registration area.
Lost Property If you lose an item of your belongings or find some lost property please speak to a member of staff at an Information Point who will help you in the first instance.
Toilets Toilets (including accessible facilities) are available in each building on campus. Please ask any member of staff or Student Guide for directions.
Baby Changing Facilities Available on the Ground Floor of the Business School and in the Main Building.
