Enrolment

Enrolment is a mandatory process that you must go through at the beginning of the year to become a member of the University, activate your IT/Library account and release your finance from the Student Loans Company. You can start the enrolment process online from 6 August. If your status on UCAS Track is Unconditional Firm (UF) by this date you will receive an email with everything you need to complete the process. If you do not receive the email, please check your junk folder and then contact gettingstarted@edgehill.ac.uk To complete your enrolment, simply follow the instructions in the email, which will also include a link to the enrolment portal, and the username and password you will need to log in.

Important: Please keep this email in a safe place as it will contain your student number and password. You will need both of these to log into the enrolment portal, your student record and your Edge Hill email account.

6

For more information visit: edgehill.ac.uk/gettingstarted/pgce

Once you have logged into the enrolment portal, you will need to enter some personal details, upload a copy of your ID and a suitable profile picture. The email you receive will also contain a link to an enrolment guide, please read this for the full instructions on how to complete your enrolment. It’s important that you complete your enrolment as soon as you can, so that you can access all the systems you will need for your studies, and to ensure that you get your student loan money on time.

7

Admissions

Late applicants If you have met all the academic conditions of your offer, your offer status will show as Unconditional (UF) on UCAS Track, giving you the green light for enrolment. If you are holding a conditional offer and have outstanding academic conditions to meet, you will not be able to enrol until you supply evidence that these conditions have been met.

If you have applied late and have recently been made an offer you should carefully read the instructions you will have received from Admissions and ensure that you comply with any conditions or deadlines set. Failure to do so could mean that you will be unable to enrol and may also delay any funding that you have applied for. Please note, you must meet all the conditions of your offer by 31 August. If you are unsure about any of these conditions, please seek guidance from the Admissions Team by emailing admissions@edgehill.ac.uk

Preparing your finances

If you intend to get help with paying your tuition fees and living expenses for your studies, now is the time to make sure that your tuition fee and maintenance loans are in place. This will ensure that you receive your funding on time and your transition to university life runs smoothly. Applying for student finance

When will I receive my funding?

If you have not yet applied for help with financing your studies, you should apply immediately at gov.uk/student-finance

Providing you have an approved application with Student Finance, your maintenance loan/ grant will be paid to you either on the date shown on your payment schedule from Student Finance or 3-5 working days after completing the enrolment process in full – whichever is the latter.

As the process can take some time it is important that you do not delay with making your application. If your funding has not been approved for the start of your course, you will be asked to attend an appointment with the Fees, Scholarships and Bursaries Team once you are enrolled on your course.

Assessment of Funding Once Student Finance has completed your assessment they will send your notification of entitlement letter showing your entitlement to funding. You can also check on the progress of your application online and see a copy of your assessment once it is available. Please ensure that all of your details are correct, this includes: n The

university you will be studying at

n The

course you will be studying

n The

tuition fee for your course.

If any of the above details are incorrect on your Student Finance paperwork please contact TuitionFees@edgehill.ac.uk

A Student Finance payment is dependent on full enrolment on your PGCE. If you are awaiting a late DBS, skills test or occupational health checks this will prevent full enrolment. Please ensure any conditions such as DBS are applied for in good time. This may mean that you will have to make short-term provision for money whilst this check is complete.

Bursaries There is no application process for bursaries. Eligible students will be advised once they are enrolled and asked to provide bank details and National Insurance details to enable payment of the bursary. More information regarding bursaries can be found at edgehill.ac.uk/study/fees-and-funding

Life on Campus Sustainable Travel We encourage sustainable travel wherever possible and have developed a Travel Plan to include various sustainable travel initiatives. The University provides a shuttle bus (EL1) connecting the campus to Ormskirk town centre, where links to other public transport routes are available. On production of your UNICARD, this journey will be free of charge. For full details and to see the timetable, visit edgehill.ac.uk/travel and click on ‘Edge Link’.

Guaranteed parking is available for permit holders who register for car sharing. You will need to book a place and both people have to be in the car with both car permits displayed in the windscreen. More details can be found online. Go to edgehill.ac.uk/travel and click on ‘Car Sharing’.

Parking Permits

Retail

Car parking at Edge Hill University is limited and cannot always accommodate all vehicles during peak periods. We therefore recommend, wherever possible, that students use public transport.

There is an onsite McColl’s convenience store and the Students’ Union shop both of which sell food, drink, and stationery.

Students coming to study at Edge Hill for the first time will need to enrol and receive a student number before a parking permit application can be made. Students who are living in halls of residence are not eligible to park on campus. However, there are some exceptions for students on placement. The issuing of parking permits is based on clear eligibility criteria, however the provision of a permit does not guarantee a parking space due to the limited capacity on campus. Even if you do have a permit, we suggest you build in sufficient time to park off campus when necessary. Details of alternative parking provision close to the University can be found at edgehill.ac.uk/travel and click on ‘Car Parking’.

Catering Catering on campus is provided by our own in-house award-winning catering team, Food at Edge Hill. There are various outlets on campus offering a great variety of fresh and local food. For more information, please visit edgehill.ac.uk/food The Students’ Union also manage the on-campus Subway.

In addition, the University is located close to Ormskirk town centre where you will find plenty of other shops and amenities.

WiFi on-campus If you need WiFi for your device when you are on-campus you can connect to eduroam, using your student number and password which will be provided to you at the point you receive your email for online enrolment. Remember to keep these details safe – you will need them as soon as you arrive. You will use these details to access WiFi, logon to University PCs and access the online library resources and Learning Edge.

Edge Hill Sport Edge Hill Sport provides a focus for all sports, fitness and leisure activities on campus. There really is something for everyone regardless of your sporting ability or motivations. Whether that is support for an elite athlete on a sports scholarship; those who want to play in university sports teams; those who want to keep fit or those who just want to try new activities or have an occasional social game with friends; we can help you achieve your goals. See our membership options at edgehill.ac.uk/edgehillsport/membership

Edge Hill Students’ Union

Everything we do at Edge Hill Students’ Union is shaped by students, and we’re here to represent ALL students at Edge Hill University – that means YOU too, postgrads! And this year, we will be closer to faculties than ever before meaning, whether you’re a Health, Faculty of Arts and Science, or Education student, you can tell us EXACTLY what you want from your Students’ Union. We realise life as a postgraduate student is going to look different from your undergraduate days. You’ve probably got greater time constraints, increased pressures from placements, work will get harder, and you might have fewer friends to call upon on campus. But DO NOT PANIC! We are here to help you enjoy your time at Edge Hill! We’ll be your first port of call if you need support with any academic disputes, and we’ll also be there to help you fully embrace life as an Edge Hill student. That includes food on campus, shopping, student societies, professional workshops, networking, student elections, and so much more!

24 For more information visit: edgehill.ac.uk/gettingstarted/pgce

Q. Will I make friends as a postgrad? Of course you will! Keep an eye out for our Give It A Go! programme of events, in which you’ll find a number of postgrad/maturestudent focused activities and parentstudent events designed specifically to offer you a place to meet like-minded peers. A. And if you don’t see something you like, simply let us know and we’ll try and facilitate it for you! Remember that you’re not alone, and no matter how nervous you may be before you start university, others will be feeling the same. You can also join our Official Fresher’s Group on the Edge Hill Students’ Union Facebook page – it’s a great place to introduce yourself and see if there are students who would like to meet up. Q. Where can I go for support and

advice?

Independent academic advice is probably the most important thing we offer to Edge Hill students. All courses have a “Course Rep”, who is in charge of feeding back your issues, helping us to change things that REALLY have an impact. A. We also have an elected-by-students Postgraduate Officer who is your main contact if you think something could be made better for you. The Postgraduate Officer works with our team of full-time sabbatical officers to represent our students’ interests.

Our on-campus Advice Centre offers you support and guidance in areas including academic issues (failings and appeals, complaints, malpractice, withdrawal etc.), welfare, housing, money, debt, benefits, and funding. You don’t need to be having a fullblown crisis to ask for help – if you’re feeling stressed, worried or lonely, PLEASE get in touch by booking a face-to-face or phone appointment at www.edgehillsu.org.uk/advice Q. What is there to do on campus? There’s nothing stopping you joining one of our amazing societies which are available for all students. Time and time again, extracurricular activities have been found to be crucial in order to keep students, happy, healthy, and to feel more human during university terms. A. Don’t ignore your wellbeing! Carve out some time for yourself from the very beginning of your Edge Hill experience in order to stop your course studies dominating your life. And if there’s not a society for you, you can always start your own! As well as the Give It A GO! programme, which now allows students to request the activities, workshops, and opportunities they want, when they want them, we also have our commercial spaces which we’ve been working hard to ensure will be open and safe to use upon your arrival on campus.

Q.

We’re the on-campus sellers of hoodies, TOTUM by NUS Extra cards, and everything in between Looks like you’ve arrived at Edge Hill at the perfect time… BRAND NEW in 2019/20, we introduced Stone Willy’s Kitchen to our SU Bar, purveyors of the best pizzas and loaded fries on campus. That’s in addition to our existing campus Subway which you can now order directly to your halls room via Just Eat!

A. We are also the official Edge Hill merchandise sellers on campus, and even have a hugely popular online shop for when walking to the SU building is just too much effort! And you can also add to the list that we’re the official licensed sellers of the TOTUM by NUS Extra card – a must for postgrad students to get amazing local, national and international discounts and deals. Download the TOTUM app to access all of the Students’ Union events, upcoming campaigns, and to see all the ways you can get involved in university life at Edge Hill!

It’s so much better when we’re together… We want you to want to be involved in everything we do, so follow us on social media (don’t forget to join the OFFICIAL Edge Hill Freshers 2020-21 Facebook group) and get in touch with your thoughts, feelings, views, and ideas.
