The Edgemoor Team’s next step is to work in concert with union leaders to develop a pre-apprenticeship program that meets the needs of the community and creates a pathway to sustainable careers in the construction industry. While labor agreements are common on large projects, the terms of this agreement are unique to Kansas City: • • •

The CWA is a single-project agreement. As such, non-union companies can decide to join their respective trade union for this project only. 5% of available work hours across all trades are available for certified minority- and womenowned non-union businesses (up to $60 Million). Non-union companies that decide to sign the CWA can bring 100% of their existing workforce to the project, and their entire Project workforce will have access to established union training programs while working on the Project.

City and state offficials, community leaders, labor representatives, and members of the Edgemoor Team celebrate a historic labor deal for Kansas City.

WHY IT MATTERS: This milestone will be achieved upon the signing of both the Development Agreement and the Use & Lease Agreement STATUS: On track to occur by the end of 2018.

DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION

Advancing the Design On August 16, Edgemoor and team designer Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM) presented to the Kansas City Aviation Committee the latest iteration of project renderings. These renderings will continue to evolve as the project moves through the design process. “For example, fountains are an important KC element in the design,” SOM architect, Jordan Pierce, noted. “We initially had one in the front hall, but as the project progressed through the design process, we realized it made the most sense to utilize the space in the front hall to improve operational efficiency and convenience for travelers and the airlines. As this process continues, we are thinking about other places to incorporate that element.” The full set of renderings can be viewed at kciedgemoor.com by clicking “Project Updates” and then “Design.”
