Featuring Symphonies 1-4 BY Karol Szymanowski
Two concerts featuring works by Witold Lutosławski
Powerhouse conductor Valery Gergiev brings the London Symphony Orchestra to the festival for what promises to be a fascinating four-concert residency, contrasting the glowing nobility of Brahms with the exotic perfumed passions of Szymanowski.
The Cleveland Orchestra returns to the Festival with two concerts. The first (21 Aug) includes Lutosławski’s colourful Concerto for Orchestra, a virtuoso showpiece inspired by Polish folk music. The second concert (22 Aug) features Lutosławski’s energetic Piano Concerto, a piece full of shimmering colours.
