The Company designs, manufactures and sells clothing for women, men, children and pets through retail, wholesale and online distribution channels. As of December 31, 2009, the Company operated 281 retail stores in 20 countries. Its wholesale business is a supplier of T-shirts and other casual wear to screen printers and distributors. It also operates an online retail e-commerce Website at www.americanapparel.com where it sells its clothing directly to consumers. The Company operates in four segments: U.S. Wholesale, U.S. Retail, Canada and International. The U.S. Wholesale segment consists of the Company’s wholesale operations and its online consumer operations in the

United States. The U.S. Retail segment consists of the Company’s retail store operations in the United States. The Canadasegment consists of its retail, wholesale and online consumer operations.
