2013 Edith Lin was born in 1990 and grew up in Taipei city, Taiwan. Edith graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design and minor in Applied Foreign Languages from National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, Yunlin, Taiwan in 2013. In 2010, she participated in the exchange program, which allowed

her to study in Copenhagen University College of Engineering, Copenhagen, Denmark for one year. During the period of time, Edith spent two academic terms at the hosting institute not only taking courses with locals but also working on several group assignments (i.e. design and environment caring projects) with locals as well as international students from different disciplines. This uniquely immersive experience cultivated her cross-cultural awareness.

Apart from her work, Edith is also an amateur artist, who works with fiber, photography and drawings. Her work pieces are inspirited by daily life and the travel experiences. In 2014, she was introduced to crochet by

In 2012, Edith participated Worldwide Promo Workshop and Design Cross Over Workshop curated by City Yeast with 15 other students, who had different creative design techniques. Edith and other participants focused on discovering Taiwanese cultural awareness through an attractive infographic. Additionally, they cooperated with international creators through Skype by sharing culture differences such as food, festivals and products. These activities leaded them to examine their culture identity and promote Taiwanese culture worldwide. Edith has joined City Yeast and AGUA Design as a designer and executive planner after graduating in 2013. She also took part in the City Yeast residency in Treasure Hill Artist Village between 2013 and 2015. During two years, she gained in-depth understanding of art residency, stationed and various methods used in interacting with locals. Edith also executed several citizen-participatory activities

her mother and has been fascinated by items made by threads, yarn and textiles. Her personal experimental creativities include sculptural hats and soft sculpture doll. In the following year, Edith began her knitting travel project, called “I Knit Where I am. In the project, she not only transformed her travel experiences, memories and feelings into a piece of wearable artwork, but also proved her art pieces were practical by wearing them. In 2016, she held a

and started to make various art pieces with an nonconventional material (used plastic bags) using crochet. Meanwhile, Edith collected daily life pattern using photography and named the collection as

I Knit Where I Am

Crochet to me is a natural thing in my daily life. It is a habit, a way to express feeling. I seldom do sketches before it started. I crochet when I am traveling. As long as I bring the yarn and crochet sticks, I record my feeling and observation with colors and random shape. Here’s my crochet memories in Fukuoka, Kyoto, Okinawa, Tainan and Hualien. Wherever I go, I do crochet. I get inspired a lot during my travel.

I See Pattern I See___ Instagram

There are many things that we take granted in our daily life and get numb for things we used to have. We seems to turn a blind eye to these daily scenery or routine work. However, small things do matter. I took these pictures and post it on my Instagram in order to remind people of what they neglect, and to open up their imagination through the series of picture. I even associated this photo with different feeling and memories that I have experienced. I believe that if we see things in different perspective, our world get bigger and we can drew inspiration from everything.

Plastic Crochet

Many second-hand plastic bags was collected for making Bubble Station in Recreate Taipei project in 2016. However there are still many left over, I come up with an idea to cut it into different width of yarn and used as crochet material. If you rethink about the property that plastic bags have, in this case it is colorful and elastic, plastic bags that originally everyone despised can be transformed into other artistic way,

Saori Weaving Saori ! Saori is a contemporary freestyle hand weaving weaving method founded by Misao Jo (1913-, Japan) in 1969. The idea is to weaving in free will and to express whatever creator wanted rather than the techniques. In SAORI, people can enjoy hand weaving as an art form, not only as a hand craft. Every piece is unique and one of the kind.
