HEX, A REVOLUTION IN THE FOOD SYSTEM People living in urbanized cities often lack access and afforadbility to fresh fruits and vegetables. Hex merges a set of beautiful containers, with a digital platform of ease-to-follow instructions, along with an app to facilitate the process tracking.
THE CITY PEOPLE

Based on market research and conducted interviews, I organized the key insights that define the average person living in an urban context.

UNRELIABILITY IN SUPPLY urban food supply and distribution is inconsistent, affecting availability.

PROPOSED SYSTEM
- 11 -
An open-ended cycle in which people can re-grow fruits and vegetables, extending the life of the seeds, which are tossed 94% of times.
I designed a system that connects people living in the same communities to exchange and share germinated seeds to regrow fruits and vegetables from store bought. The system works through a kit that contains: a set of containers for germinating the seeds and an app that allows the user access to the digital library with the instructions for germinating more than 1200 fruits and vegetables, a color-coded tracking system that sends alerts to smartphone and a channel of communication for exchanging with the community.

Blood
pressure monitors have not changed much since they were first designed in the late 18th century. They tend to be obstrusive, unappealing and bulky, taking a lot of the bathroom space. For this project, I intended to design an elegant, lightweight and user-friendly blood pressure monitor. One that could make the pressure reading a relaxing experience. Zendo suggests a more aesthetical and less medical-device look. It has a universal arm-cuff port that is compatible with any conventional BPM arm-cuff. It pairs with smartphones or tablet by Bluetooth, reducing the need of a screen.
Early functional prototype assembly with sensors and parts.

BETTER UX THROUGH SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY
We all at some point turn to social psychology: either to work in a team, provide a service or to design for a group of people.
In the field of UX / UI design, the designer, by
controlling its user interaction, makes choices that will define the outcome of the product. Amongst the principles of user-centered design, there is the need to providing feedback and being consistent. These two are highly related to some of the ideas that social psychology proposes. Being consistent when designing is mostly about making the behavior of the elements as constant and coherent as possible. The product being designed acts as a system and all of its interactive components need to be consistent in order for the users to learn and easily get used to it. The foot-in-the-door technique, is an example of Social Psychology that consists of a strategy that uses a person’s desire for consistency to influence their behavior. It shows evidence of how vulnerable we are to social influence and how big our desire for accuracy and consistency is.
- 22 -
When designing a website, for example, you want users to feel comfortable in the same way you would like a friend to feel in a conversation with you. If your website is consistent with its elements and can convey logical information, then the user will be happy and self-constrained to return. Websites, in this case, work as an echo of how someone with high social skills would act in a conversation or relationship: making others feel comfortable with their presence and behaving in such way that makes it easier for others to understand us. Providing feedback is another principle of design, which is highly related to Social Psychology. Feedback is the intermediary between the design and the user; it communicates the results of the interaction by making it visible and understandable. Feedback tells the user when an item is clickable, what is happening and what will happen next.
UX/ UI DE S I GN
The providal of feedback can relate to Social Behavior aspects, it can enhance or worsen the interaction depending on the context.
Feedback can alter and highly affect the attraction between two people. The rule of thumb says that if in a conversation, one’s feedback to another person is negative, it will influence in the other person as a decrease in attraction. If, otherwise, the feedback is positive, it will likely inc rease the attraction on the other’s side, mainly because of psychological factors that act increasing the confidence.
Users, as well, need to be confident that their actions have been successful. It is evident from a distinct change in appearance of the window, for example, after completing a stage or transaction. If that takes a few seconds, a progress indicator becomes necessary to communicate that the process is still operating.
Feedback should be provided at all levels of interaction, as it would in a conversation. In a conversation, there is not a listener and a talker, both have to interact, and that is why the user of a website should not be merely a passive listener but an active participant.
We tend to think of psychology as the “language” or guide to understanding people’s behavior but I personally believe that Social Psychology provides better tools to interact with people that are not limited to only understanding them. Providing feedback and showing consistency are only some of the many principles of design that can be strongly interrelated with Social Psychology. Article published in Medium.com, +700 views. Product Design Intern
September - December 2015
May - September 2014
Syntax NYC is a design boutique, specialized in fashion, beauty and fragances.
In this internship I worked closely with Cindy, the owner and director of the company designing three sunglass models for the upcoming collection and creating spec sheets further sent to Luxury Eyewear factories in Italy and China for the manufacturing of the Sunglasses. I also redesigned their website to a more responsive and easier to navigate, increasing the online sales more than 10% in the following six months.
My tasks in this internship included the preparation of 3D print models for clients, assusting the designers in 3D modeling and visual presentations as well as materials, trends and concept research and ideation. The clientele includes internationally recognized luxury brands such as Vera Wang, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Estee Lauder among many others.

ALDEAS DE PAZ

Multimedia Intern and Logistics Coordinator
September - December 2014
May - August 2013
I worked as a Studio Manager Assistant for the New York based artist Joseph LaPiana. During this internship, I was in charge of the administrative as well as organizational tasks. Some of them including organizing the space and material on a regular basis, keeping an inventory of the works of art as well as the art handling and assisting the Studio Manager and the artist in print and digital material for presentations and exhibitions.
I spent a summer in Santa Elena de Uairen, a small rural city located in the south of Venezuela. During those months, I volunteered for Aldeas de Paz, an NGO that offers recreational activities and afternoon classes to local children, taught by volunteers. As a multimedia intern I created and designed the content and supplements for teaching +45 children weekly. I also designed the media for marketing campaigns to raise funds and participated in a short-film produced by the volunteers designing the characters. As a logistics coordinator, some of my tasks included preparing the weekly schedules for the volunteers.
