NOTE The piece is written for Klangforum Wien as a piano quartet. In addition to the pianist and the three string instruments, there is an additional musician who plays the MIDI keyboard. The music is built on subtle clichés from the classical and new music world. Perhaps this is the reason for the traditional 4 movements, which are connected to each other in a tonal and structural context. A tribute or a critique? Or both? Or actually something else. In a review of Christensen’s Piano Concerto, a journalist described his music as one big bombastic cliché. Although it was meant as a criticism, it is probably the most apt description of his music.
